Arriving about 30 minutes before showtime gave us plenty of time to collect our tickets and grab a drink at one of the venue’s bars before settling in. The stage setup was clean and effective, featuring a keyboardist, guitarist, and drummer, with a cheeky, self-promotional pre-show build-up that primed the audience before Benanti made her entrance.

One of the true highlights comes right at the start: the opening number throws you straight into what was easily my favorite song of the night (titled “Listen to Me”). The song carries a hilariously blunt message about paying attention to the comedian, delivered with sharp choreography, world-class vocals, and pure comedic timing to set the tone.

Without spoiling the surprises, the remaining hour flies by in a seamless mix of songs and storytelling. The humour hits effortlessly; there were moments where you found yourself laughing before you even realized the joke had landed. Benanti draws on her family life, her Broadway past, and personal experiences to build a cohesive narrative arc. Her story loops together beautifully, bringing full-circle callbacks from start to finish, a level of narrative structure that was a delightful surprise for a comedy show.

Before we knew it, the 65 minutes were up and it was time to head out. Luckily, the venue remained open for post-show drinks, providing a welcoming space to chat, leave a review with the front-of-house team, and grab some merchandise.

The London run at Underbelly Soho is strictly limited, running only from July 14th to 26th. After that, you’ll have to catch a flight to the US, where her tour continues well into 2027. We highly recommend grabbing tickets before this brief run ends!
