A'DAM Lookout Review

Fancy seeing the sights of Amsterdam from up high? The A’DAM LOOKOUT is the place to be, with it being an observation deck with an unrivalled panoramic view of Amsterdam. Not only a lookout tower, the venue hosts many thrills from Europe’s highest swing and even a VR ride.

The A’DAM LOOKOUT is found in the city of Amsterdam, however, you do need to get a boat ride across to it. This is free and they run very frequently, with the journey time taking a matter of minutes. From getting off the boat to getting to the venue, is again a matter of a few minutes walk.

The A’DAM LOOKOUT venue hosts so much in, but it is more known as a tourist hotspot so you view Amsterdam up high in the 360 degrees top floor deck. The venue is open from 10am till 10pm, so you can take a look in daylight or maybe see the lights at night.

With so much you can explore here, we are going to highlight what we explored on our visit in October in this review.

With there being so much to do in the lookout tower, they have a combination of tickets depending if you just wish to explore the views, have some thrills or maybe have a date with food & drink. All tickets included the lookout of the tower, but you combine this with either drinks (2 drinks included), menu (a dish and drink in the Panorama restaurant), or thrill (a swing ticket and VR Rollercoaster ride). Other tickets are available also to combine with our tourist attractions.

We obviously chose the thrill ticket on our visit, to see what these attractions had to offer. Upon entering the venue, we checked in at the desk to collect our tickets. Before we could experience what A’DAM LOOKOUT had to offer, there was a photo opportunity with a green screen to make it look like you were amongst the sights.

From here, our adventure continued with our activities!

So the first thing you get to experience is the elevator. Yes, I know it does not sound exciting but this elevator is different, as it comes action packed with a light and music sequence. You go up 100 meters in 22 seconds and whilst soaring, you get to see the lights above party away with a little beat. A nice addition instead of your boring lift ride and fits in perfectly with the Amsterdam style.

Once you make your way to the lookout platform, here you can explore at your own pace. We decided to walk around to see the sights, made easier with the interactive binoculars. These when pointed at particular points will give you some key information of what you are looking at, instead of just guessing and trying to work it out. Much easier! Whilst when we visited it was a grey day, you could still see far and wide across the city, and it was nice to just explore.

From here, we then decided to tackle our thrill package. We started with the Over the Edge swing. With it being at 100 meters above the city, it is Europe’s highest swing, so a pretty unique tourist experience. You get a picture, a short video as well as a few minutes of swinging whilst taking in the sights. It is pretty scary at first but you do get used to it after a while.

We then checked out the VR ride. Here you can find a number of pods set up indoors by the bar. The experience being offered is the ultimate rollercoaster experience, as you explore the city but on a rollercoaster ride with some very interesting special effects. Whilst not very realistic, it was certainly fun with the wind blowing in your face and the seat moving in time with the ride. Did you spot the dragon over the city?

After all the thrills, we decided to take a seat and grab a drink in the bar to see the sights but, in a bit of a warmer climate. Prices are what you would expect being 100 meters up in a tourist building. We visited during the ADE event, which sees Amsterdam transform to celebrate the electronic dance music culture and the tower even has a DJ at select times for this.

There are audio tours, display structures of the building and a cinema room showing you the history of the A’DAM LOOKOUT all too. Not fancying any of this? Then head to the basement to explore their VR park, showcasing some virtual reality fun in different forms.

Overall, it is a fun tourist attraction which can be enjoyed by many thanks to the different packages being offered. At a reasonable price, it is certainly not to be missed during your visit to Amsterdam. We would recommend the thrill package, as it is certainly unique to swing so high up in the sky!

A huge thanks to the A’DAM LOOKOUT team for inviting us to the venue and gifting us two tickets for the LOOKOUT + THRILL combo in exchange for our review & TikTok.
