VR Vidampark, which translates to VR Theme Park, is a virtual reality building located in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Opening back in November 2019, the team have expanded and developed their experience to create a fun and interactive experience for a variety of age groups. The building itself covers 3 floors of virtual reality goodness that fills more than 2000 square meters!
The team have done their research before producing this experience, noting that the power of storytelling is key in delivering top quality entertainment. They strive to provide the highest quality of escapade when you step foot in their venue using the most advanced technological gadgets and with the assistance of virtual reality, they are able to create a truly unique adventure.
This is what makes VR Vidampark unique compared to your local virtual reality experience. The creators have developed a hyperreality world with 4D elements and an interior design of the venue being out of this world. With all of this combined, a time travelling expedition is created with any of the virtual reality games you choose to play.
Our review below is of our experience and visit in late December 2022. We were invited to play some of the unique virtual reality games.
We managed to find the location very easily whilst exploring Budapest. Using Google Maps, we were a short walk away whilst being tourists in the centre of Budapest. There are plenty of transport links in Budapest from trams, underground, scooters or even a bus, so we had a range of options. The venue had a clear sign out of the front and as we entered, it had a bright, vibrant entrance with some cool Lego models and signs. Heading through, you enter the reception area which has a futuristic feel to it with the design and setup, which was great to see from the moment of entry. You cannot see any VR from this floor, but they had a small cafe, a waiting area and all of the options of the experiences you could do. The experiences can be played in English so don’t worry if you are concerned about not knowing the language during your visit, the team is super helpful!
The venue is open 7 days a week with different opening hours depending on the day, with most midweek days opening 1pm to 8pm, with weekend slots being 10am to 9pm. Therefore, there is plenty of time to make a visit to the venue on your next visit to Budapest. Experiences are heavily recommended to be booked in advance, and we could see this as people were trying to book on the day with limited options due to the popularity of this VR park.
Choosing your experience can be pretty hard and that is because there is so much to do! They have a range of experiences to try and they come in different packages.
Adrenaline Ticket – 6500Ft per person
Let’s start with the adrenaline ticket that includes 5 awesome and different virtual reality experiences. This is really good value for money with what is included and they have some really unique gadgets for you to try in this package. Starting off with Beat Saber or Fruit Ninja, you are likely to have played or heard of these before but it is a good, simple fun experience. Moving on to the roller coaster, which if you are missing riding a theme park ride then you’re in luck. They have a swarve looking vehicle which moves in time with the ride. Some people may recognise it as the Rip Ride Rockit coaster at Universal Studios. The quality was a little blurry but, overall it was a fun 3 minute experience!
Now time for the super cool unique adventures. The VR Motor allows you to put on the glasses and jump onto a futuristic bike as you race rivals in a space like world. We didn’t get to try this but it did look so much fun and everyone was watching this one. If you didn’t fancy riding a bike in VR, you can try the hydraulic car simulator. This differs as it has no virtual reality element but with the moving rig being super sensitive, you really feel like you are behind the wheel of a F1 car.
Leaving the most unique to last, is the Catapult. We have never seen one of these… anywhere!? You can enjoy a classic funfair experience through VR. Similar to a booster funfair ride, this experience leaves you strapped into a chair and spun around in a ferris wheel like motion, but much faster. The device you are linked to has tilting functions as well as it being able to move up and down… which makes it very realistic when mixed with the VR world. We were terrified during our ride and you’ll scream more towards the end of this experience!
Gamer Ticket – 7500FT Per Person
The next package is the gamer ticket, which includes 4 games within. You get to try out the VR Machine Gun, which is a massive weapon that you fight zombies (or pirates for a younger audience). You then get to play 2 VR games out of a choice of three which have a mixture of themes Before choosing another VR experience that is a little bit different. This being on a movable platform. It is hard to describe but in this version, you get to run in a small dome shaped area and therefore, it is a lot more physical.
We were gutted to not be able to try this package but lots of people were loving the VR Machine Gun as well as the unique VR missions.
Time Traveler Premium Ticket – 9500FT Per Person
For the highlight experience, is the Time Traveler mission. This is for Dino Safari & Dark side of Anubis, a two part adventure. Both experiences go the extra mile as it is spiced up with 4D effects and uses all of the senses. You get a special backpack and have to walk around in the real world which affects your virtual world too. The Dino Safari mission takes you back to the age of the dinosaurs and you may even come face to face with a T-rex. It was simple but was really cool to see all the effects working and how following the same path it felt could be changed with some effects. Very child friendly this mission for sure.
The Dark side of Anubis would have been more of a darker mission it seems, with more difficult challenges. Sadly we didn’t get to try this one out during our time as we were running a little behind. However, we are gutted as the trailer and setup looks very fitting.
Other Experiences
They have two other packages which we have not mentioned and neither did we explore. These being the VR Escape Room & Arena tickets. The VR Escape Room costing 10,500FT per person, given you 50 minutes to escape from a range of different themes and missions. The Arena is by Hologate and these were shorter missions lasting around 10 minutes or less each. From zombie shooting to Angry Birds, there were a range of mission to choose from. This costing 8500FT per person but, allowing you 30 minutes roughly to play.
There were other consoles to play in the venue too, from some old school machines to PSP’s, gamecube etc. This area seemed a little quiet during our visit but we could understand why with all the other cool newer machines they were showcasing.
Overall we had a fantastic time at VR Vidampark in Budapest. Dean said “I enjoyed the venue with a variety of experiences on offer. The upstairs games section, whilst small, had plenty to do. The 3 VR stations had different sensations from a rollercoaster simulator of Rip Ride Rocket Coaster, to playing beat saber, and riding a unique drop chair simulator with a crazy booster ride on the video. The real highlight of the venue for me is the free-roaming VR experience. Set up with physical buttons, walls and other features it really allows you to be immersed in the virtual world of dinosaurs.”
Amy said “The VR vdam Park in Budapest was a unique experience and one I thoroughly enjoyed. Virtual reality is not my first choice of attraction but the head set walk through dinosaur attraction was especially surprising for me. After not experiencing anything like this before, I did not know what to expect and from being transported to a new virtual world to being surrounded by dinosaurs, I was amazed! Featuring water effects and moving platforms, this is definitely something I would love to experience again in the future.”
Austyn said “I loved getting to try out the hydraulic car simulator as it felt very real and so much better than your typical arcade driving machine. You felt every corner and more so when you went off the track! The dino safari was also really cool, although simple, it really shows how VR can be used with special effects and I would personally love to see more of it. VR Vidampark are really onto something with what they have and I cannot wait to return on my next visit to Budapest.”
