An exhilarating live-action immersive Halloween Horror Park returned for 2023. One of the newest on the scene in Kent named Kent ScareGround, you can find a range of Halloween mazes and other entertainment on offer during Halloween 2023. The team have crafted 4 scare attractions this year to create terror to all those who were brave enough to enter, with an award winning creative team behind them, they have a lot to show over the selected dates they are open.
Kent ScareGround can be found within Kent in a place called Orpington on Hewitt’s Farm. The location is quite dimly lit so we recommend when you get close, you keep a good eye out for people and the turn in, as it can be easily missed. The event ran during selected dates in October which were Wednesday 25th through to Sunday 29th, with all tickets needing to be purchased online prior to attending. The two ticket types for this year were standard entry which allowed 1x entry through each maze or fastrack, which allowed entry through the maze via a fastrack option.
We were lucky enough to experience the event for 2022 for our first time and as a small event which is up and coming, they had some amazing designs and concepts which we loved seeing. Smaller events are perfect for a scarier night and a more personalised experience compared to larger events, so we always recommend supporting them.
Below is our experience for 2023 when we were invited to see Kent ScareGrounds offering on opening night!
Our thoughts for 2023…
Our second year getting to try out the offerings that Kent ScareGround have crafted and we were excited to see 4 mazes on the lineup. With the 4 mazes, 2 of them had different names to last year and only 2 returning mazes named , so we were excited to see the new changes. Upon arrival, we got our tickets from the marquee at the entrance of the farm which we were directed to. They provide a card which they will sign off at each attraction, so make sure you don’t lose it.
Heading into the hub, we found a stage with a singer performing some Halloween hits, a snack stand with a few offerings and also a bar with some alcoholic & non alcoholic options too. They also had a range of roaming characters which would cause of terror whenever you weren’t looking. They brought the minimal queue lines to life and also whilst you were getting a drink, creating some entertainment for when the singer wasn’t on. Whilst the hub wasn’t the life of the party compared to other events, the main reason we were here was to see the 4 maze offerings as knew they would be great.

Renegade
Theming 50% | Storyline 55% | Screams 50% | Laughs 70% | Actors 80%
Renegade is the clown maze at the event but they have taken it based on the creepy clown trend which haunted the UK back in 2013 & 2016. They have taken over this junkyard and they are ready to cause terror around every corner with their haunting laughs and sinister intentions. Whilst some of the clowns were up for a laugh, others were causing chaos. We climbed on the back of a lorry, played rock, paper, scissors and were made to bark like a dog in this attraction. Each clown was different to the next and each of them used their space to their advantage, creating many screams and also plenty of laughs. Clown mazes can be quite generic so we do love this take on the terror trend and hosting it in a junkyard setting, meaning they can cause whatever chaos they see fit. Whilst not our favourite of the night, the clowns makeup and scare skills were really impressive in a open space outdoor attraction.
Scream Works

Scream Works was one of the three new attractions they have built for this year and it did not disappoint. Based on a film studio which was famous in making hit productions before something happened to cause it to go downhill. Now you can find a range of delusional cast members who have remained to give a behind the scenes tour of this once popular building. Inside we found a heavy story with many interactive moments with a range of characters, such as the leading actor who was practicing his lines and even an upcoming actress who was a little… drunk. With so many different scenes inside and each of them adding to the story, we were shocked to see such a creative & detailed maze. We had so many laughs and a handful of screams which was a nice blend. The interactivity was something we loved more so and had not seen enough of this year compared to other events, being asked to take part and answer back, with the cast changing how they interacted depending on how you responded. We were huge fans of Scream Works and hope to see it return next year!
Scare BNB

Another one of the new mazes and this one is based on a bed & breakfast which you have decided to stay in however, it’s never how it looks in the images right? You are guided to check in and meet the lovely head of the household which is Grandma, you manage to see her before she heads out. She welcomes you in to see on the sofa and has a little chat with you before ushering you to your room. She does shout for the family to come meet you and also grabs an axe for protection which was somewhat alerting. Going through many scenes such as the kitchen, bathroom and the kids room which you will want to avoid. This maze had some of the most gruesome moments we’ve experienced this year, from horrible foods, smells and sights we are not going to be forgetting this for some time. The comedy element towards the end and getting to meet Karen was also a highlight of Halloween, pure comedy genius!
Fortitude

Fortitude returns for another year of fear however, it felt completely different to what we experienced last year. This was a more structured maze with a lot more stop scenes and interactivity, which Kent ScareGround has smashed this year on all their attractions. We went through and see demented dolls, creepy clowns, a crazy abusive Australian and even a dentist. The diversity of characters were off the scales and it was all to play on certain fears as you take a drug that heightened these fears and brought them to life. This was another maze we found ourselves having plenty of laughs in but plenty of scares too, creating the perfect blend of scare mazes which we love to see in this day & age. Overall, Fortitude was a huge step in the right direction and another fantastic addition for the scare ground this year.
Kent ScareGround had come leaps & bounds from last year to create what we think is their best year yet in making unique concepts and original mazes with a limited budget. All 4 of the mazes were a pleasure to experience and created all of the scares you would need from an event of this scale, but more surprisingly we had so many moments of laughter & comedy that we were not expecting. Many attractions have struggled to get this blend yet we feel Kent ScareGround has mastered this technique. With the two new mazes making a huge impact and the two returning mazes having many areas of improvement, Kent ScareGround is one to certainly watch in the industry, as we had such a great experience. Whilst they have areas to work on outside the attractions in terms of entertainment, the offering will not disappoint you.
