With our travels taking us more across Europe, we took a trip to Hamburg in Germany in April 2024. With this being our first visit to Hamburg, we could see escape rooms were extremely popular in this area with there being lots of choices. One that stood out to us was Escape Diem. Escape Diem is located in the city centre and is home to a range of escape rooms that can be played in German & English. The owner & creator is Ellen Grell, who has created this business from scratch since 2017 and has gone from strength to strength since opening. 

Escape Diem has 4 rooms that can be played with them all taking a very different theme. For horror lovers, you can play their version of the Jigsaw room. You have The Office of the Port, which is a more traditional and easier room which requires you to find out what happened about a missing captain. You have The Secrets of Nostradamus which is more magic based and the one we decided to play was The Secret Chapel. 

The Secret Chapel gives you the challenge as you fill the role as journalists trying to crack the story of this forgotten chapel. With all of its hidden mysteries and tales, we had limited time to get all of the information required before another team would take over from us. With a clever story, a slightly spooky feel and an adventure awaiting, it was great to see a different theme. 

Tickets range from 29 – 45 euros per person, this depending on how many players you play with of course. Based on the room we experienced, we believe groups of 4 is perfect for this challenge, even if you have played many escape rooms before like us! Below we take a further look into our room!
