Cleopatra: The Experience is a slick, tech-driven exhibition that seamlessly blends blockbuster storytelling with museum-grade detail, bringing one of history’s most iconic figures vividly to life. Combining immersive visuals, interactive technology, and carefully curated artefacts, the experience offers a fresh and engaging perspective on Cleopatra’s life, legacy, and influence. Visitors are taken on a journey through ancient Egypt, exploring the power, politics, and myth surrounding the legendary queen in a way that feels both educational and cinematic. Cleopatra: The Experience is only running for 12 weeks, ending 12th July so this is an attraction not to be missed!
Set within Immerse LDN at Excel London Waterfront, the dockside setting creates an exciting atmosphere, building anticipation before stepping into the experience. Easily accessible by public transport, there are several convenient options available. The DLR provides easy access via Custom House or Prince Regent stations. Alternatively, the Elizabeth Line offers the fastest route from central London, arriving at Custom House station. For a more scenic approach, visitors can take the cable car across the Thames. From any of these options, it’s just a short walk to the waterfront entrance.
Ticket prices are accessible across a range of options, with general admission starting from £25 and children’s tickets from £20. For a more enhanced experience, the premium “Cleopatra Package” is available from £49, offering added value for those looking to make the most of their visit.
On the day of our visit, we decided to take the cable car across the river from The O2 Arena and upon reaching the other side, it was very well sign posted and easy to find the entrance to the experience. After previously visiting for the Tuttenkamun Immersive Exhibition, we were very excited to visit again and explore another crucial part of Egyptian history.
As we entered the attraction, we were welcomed by friendly staff who efficiently scanned our tickets and directed us upstairs to begin the experience please note the exhibition is wheelchair accessible, refer to accessible FAQs on Cleopatra: The Experience for more information). Throughout the exhibition, a series of interactive AR elements allowed visitors to use their smartphones to scan codes and unlock additional insights at various points, adding an engaging digital layer to the journey. After reading the introduction and setting up the AR platform, we were guided into the opening scene, where the experience immediately immerses you in Cleopatra’s world. A striking, glasses-free 3D hologram brings her story to life, sharp, cinematic, and unexpectedly moving, setting the tone with the dramatic rise and fall of Egypt’s last queen.
Visitors then move into a free-roaming digital metaverse, wandering through pivotal moments in history, from Alexander the Great’s rise to Mark Antony’s war tent and Cleopatra’s palace. It’s a slightly surreal yet incredibly immersive experience, feeling like stepping inside a playable history documentary, where storytelling and technology combine to bring ancient events vividly to life. This was definitely the highlight of the experience for us.
Once the VR experience is complete, visitors transition into a thoughtfully curated artefact gallery, showcasing over 20 genuine pieces from ancient Egypt and the Hellenistic world. The collection includes bronze figures, ancient papyri, and cosmetic items, offering a tangible connection to the history explored throughout the exhibition. This section provides a more traditional museum-style experience, allowing guests to slow down and reflect, while deepening their understanding of daily life, culture, and craftsmanship from Cleopatra’s era.
Next, visitors step into Cleopatra’s Private Chamber, an intimate and immersive space that offers a glimpse into the queen’s personal world. Featuring interactive mirrors, detailed displays of beauty rituals, and exquisite jewellery, this section explores Cleopatra’s image, influence, and daily life. It delves into the secrets behind her iconic status, from ancient cosmetics and self-presentation to the power of perception, creating a fascinating blend of history, culture, and sensory experience.
As visitors finish exploring Cleopatra’s Private Chamber, they are led into a true showstopper, a fully immersive projection room that surrounds you from every angle. This 30-minute looping experience brings Cleopatra’s story to life through sweeping visuals and powerful narration, charting her journey from coronation to her influential alliances with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, culminating in the dramatic Battle of Actium. The scale and storytelling are incredibly impactful, creating a cinematic, almost theatrical moment that draws visitors deeper into her legacy, and stands out as one of the key highlights of the entire experience.
The final element of our journey through Cleopatra: The Experience is a breathtaking VR finale, taking visitors on an underwater expedition to explore the lost ruins of Alexandria and the ongoing search for Cleopatra’s tomb. This fully immersive 360° experience places you beneath the waves, uncovering sunken temples, statues, and remnants of the ancient city in a way that feels both adventurous and atmospheric. Visually stunning and deeply engaging, it creates a powerful sense of discovery and mystery, providing a truly memorable and fitting conclusion to the attraction.
We had an incredible time and came away with a much deeper understanding of Cleopatra and ancient Egypt, discovering fascinating insights we hadn’t encountered before. The combination of storytelling, technology, and historical detail made it both educational and thoroughly enjoyable. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Mance Communications for providing us with tickets to experience Cleopatra: The Experience and highly recommend this attraction to anyone looking for something unique, engaging, and memorable.
