12 October 2026
INTRODUCTION
Hallowscream is back for 2026 and as a multi-award winning event, they are ready to entertain and scare you once more. Home to 5 scare houses, a large entertainment schedule, fairground rides and new for 2026, Corntagion, there is plenty to cover during your visit. Whilst the scare houses remain the same, the event has new entertainment shows, from a new opening show through to a new closing show. York Hallowscream highlights how Halloween is more than your typical mazes.
The event has been going for quite some time and it is based on a farm tragedy that took place in 1873. Whilst there are over 100 actors, the focus is on the entertainment hub which continues to improve year upon year. You’ll find them open throughout October on selected nights, from 6:30pm until 11:45pm. You can buy standard tickets through to unlimited fast track, noting that the new attraction Corntagion is upcharge. They also have Lucifer’s Lounge which is a VIP upcharge experience.
With new shows and attractions, we took a look on opening night to see what the 2026 season has to offer…

THE OVERALL EVENT…
WOO – Variety & Quality | WOO – Entertainment | BOO – Operations
York Hallowscream is always an event we highly recommend and rate each season. They are so much more than just the mazes, they have some of the best entertainment. After winning our award for best event entertainment last season, we were excited to get back once again to experience it all.
The gates open at 6:30pm each night and you will want to be there early, as the opening show starts at 6:40pm over on the stage. The entertainment is then on every 15 minutes on the stage with an array of shows, from Lil Dribble medleys, dance shows and fire and stunts. There is always a show going on and every one is as good as the last. With plenty of new material put in this year, you’ll always find time to watch a show or two during your visit. They also have made sure you can view the show wherever you are, with new TV screens in each queue and the outside bar which livestreams the shows when they are on. Don’t forget to watch the closing show at 10:50pm, as it was chaos!
Outside the shows, York Hallowscream have an interesting way of dealing with the maze queues, which is done by an automatic timer and buzzer the staff use. Meaning groups go after a set time. The only issue is that depending on how quick the group in front goes, it is highly likely you will conga and queue in a maze and sadly, we did experience this a few times throughout our evening.
That said, the whole event offers so much quality in terms of what you can do at the event, from the mazes, fairground and shows, and the variety also matches.
Corntagion – new for 2026
WOO – Enjoyment | WOO – Concept | BOO – Screams
The brand new upcharge attraction for 2026 is Corntagion. Taking you into the fields which are now a military site due to infected fungus being found. You board a tractor ride out as a paid tour before, as expected, everything goes wrong and the infected get closer and the military can’t guarantee your safety anymore. Half tractor ride, half scare maze, it blends the two together here for a unique concept. The screams did lack a little, with the trailer you’re on being quite large, the scares here are less impactful. However, it does ramp up in intensity and scares in the second half for sure. Overall, for its first year and trying something not done before, we very much enjoyed it and believe with some adaptations it’ll be a standout attraction.
Corny’s Cornevil
WOO – Actor Performance | WOO – Lighting & SFX| BOO – Concept
Corny’s Cornevil is a staple part of the event and as much as it remains unchanged, it is always one of the more light-hearted attractions they have in the lineup. The clowns inside had plenty of fun, using their space to either mess with your mind, get fantastic jump scares or just genuinely creep you out. They were energetic and psycho, exactly what you expect in a clown maze. Obviously as a clown maze, the concept is limited as a typical clown attraction, however its special effects are where it shines. From strobe lights, moving floors, a mirror maze, air blasts, animatronics, a tilted room and so much more, it excels in this element and it suits the clown attraction well.
Necropolis
WOO – Lighting & SFX | WOO – Theming | BOO – Audio
Necropolis was a standout maze last year and it does it again for us this year. The theming inside is designed to replicate an Egyptian style attraction and they have so many detailed props and sets that really feel like you’re stepping through the tomb. The audio isn’t as memorable for us and feels like the weakest element, but the lighting stood out in comparison, with even a lightning trigger as soon as you walked in. They had some cool effects in there also, from a wobbly bridge and some large snake heads that come out, with air blasts and more. Not worth missing on your visit for 2026.
The Flesh Pot
WOO – Storytelling | WOO – Screams| BOO – Theming
The Flesh Pot is quite a gruesome and dark attraction, with some very dark sets and takes the style of a slaughterhouse style maze. It has impressive storytelling with a great opening scene, telling you why you’re here and who you’re going to go see, which ties to the ending of the attraction. Of course the journey in the middle is as terrifying as expected. There is plenty of theming and props inside but a lot of it is masked with the dark lighting or strobe effects. This does make for a good jump scare maze, with us getting plenty of scares and many elements making us want to run and not walk.
Rednecks Revenge
WOO – Actor Utilisation | WOO – Enjoyment | BOO – Concept
Rednecks Revenge is your typical hillbilly haunted house, where you get to meet the family and go across their land as you try to stay alive. The hillbillies have found the best way to move around their plot, with them having many scenes with plenty of spots to get passers by. This is both indoors and outdoors, with so many options for them giving us the sense they were attacking from all angles. The concept isn’t original, with hillbilly mazes being used a lot during Halloween, but this doesn’t stop us enjoying what they have created with lots of different sets and styled rooms.
The Singularity
WOO – Lighting & SFX | WOO – Screams | BOO – Storytelling
The Singularity is a futuristic type maze, which takes you forward in time to the year 2073 and where machines have gained consciousness. As a futuristic maze, the use of the special effects was insane. It felt they used all of them. They had air blasts, bangs, falling barrels, smoke filled rooms, just as a starter. This mixed with the lighting that changed throughout, created a great future world atmosphere. The storytelling did seem to take a back seat here, with the intro scene giving some story but very short and simple. That didn’t take away from the scares, with some very intense moments and close up scares. One scene in particular, using a claustrophobic pipe scene with them being able to grab you from all sides, is just a standout.
As you can see, York Hallowscream have so much going on for 2026. Whether that’s their brand new upcharge attraction, new stage shows or just the incredible array of scare houses they have on offer. They have something for everybody and they have mastered it all on opening night once again. We had a blast and the night goes by so fast, so be cautious not to rest too much as there is only so much time to get everything done. Make sure you interact with the roaming characters as they are absolutely fantastic, including Lil Dribble who runs the show.
A huge thank you to the team for inviting us to join them on their opening night. They provided us with an unlimited fast track ticket for us both, plus Lucifer’s Lounge. This was in return for our honest feedback and content which we have provided.
Dates have already started to get close to sell out, so we highly recommend you book in advance before it’s too late for this year!
