Darkfield Radio Season 2 Knot Review

A trilogy of immersive audio that you can experience from home…

Darkfield Radio has returned with Season 2 of its immersive audio adventure into an alter reality world. If you don’t know who Darkfield are, they are producers of innovative immersive experiences at the forefront of technology and theatre since 2016. Known in multiple countries, they have created many pop up experiences in key locations in London & New York to lose you in another world. Since lockdown, these adventures have now transferred to be online and now you can experience these much closer to home. For more information of who they are, you can read more in our article here – Darkfield Launches Season 2 of Darkfield Radio With KNOT – Thrill Nation

“My existence is possible, but it is not proven

You are joined on a park bench by a woman who is lost in the city. You are in a car heading both towards and away from the park. In a meeting room a cyclical story, tied up like a knot with no ends, is conjured into existence by a collective effort.

KNOT is a trilogy, a three part immersive audio experience unfolding in three different locations – for the first episode audiences will situate themselves on a park bench, for the second in a car, and for the third in a room of their home.

Three intersecting, interwoven episodes question how inevitable anything is. You will need to experience all three for the story to be complete.

All you will need to access the experience is your phone, the DARKFIELD RADIO app, your tickets and headphones.”

Episode 1 started on a park bench and this is where the story began. We connected through the Darkfields Radio app beforehand and waited for the experience to begin. During the story we had to close our eyes and this was quite unsettling in a park. This does ramp up the tension factor for the experience. Whilst it starts off confusing, everything slowly starts to make some sense but, the more sense the story makes the deeper you fall into the immersion. Towards the middle and end of the first episode, we were unsure if the audio was from the people actually in the park or from the experience. It left us certainly wanting to know the next part but also left us cautious of what could happen next…

Episode 2 was best to experience in a car. More importantly, the passenger seat of a car. It’s good to note at this point that if you don’t have access to a car or the weather isn’t the best to sit in a park then you can experience this anywhere. The surroundings helps with the experience so the best you can create them, the better the immersion.

We thought episode 2 was by far the best out of the trilogy. The level of layered audio with some subtle sounds and characters talking, you did question if you were alone in the car. With a driver & back seat passenger in this episode, you could honestly believe this was genuinely happening and lose yourself very easily in the moment.

Episode 3 left us with the final location, the largest room in the house. You needed to sit in the middle of it or the best to that as you can. Whilst a lot of the places seem random and do not make sense, when you listen to the story and become a part of it, it completely makes sense.

With this episode summing up the story and tying the knot, it finally all came together and answered many questions you had from the start. Overall, each episode played out so differently and not how we expected it to from the first moments.

Season 2 – KNOT by Darkfield Radio was the best audio experience we’ve ever encountered. The level of subtle sounds, the detail in the story and how that all came together, was beyond epic. With such a simple setup being able to be created to make you feel tense and uneasy throughout the 20-25 minute episodes, you were in the centre of the action all the way through and felt like a main character in this audio experience.

We would of course recommend you to book on and try the three episodes of Season 2 by the Darkfield team. There are many slots available to book on with tickets costing £22.50 per person. This works overall to an hours experience over the three episodes with breaks in between. They are solo experiences so you don’t need to worry about tagging a friend but it is always good to get them to take part and talk about it afterwards!

Thank you to the team to allowing us to experience KNOT and if you have experienced this already or about to, let us know over on our socials what you thought!
