Thorpe Park Fright Nights Review ()

INTRODUCTION

Fear returns once more this Halloween as Fright Nights celebrates 25 years of fear with a terrifying new evolution. Thorpe Park Fright Nights is an award-winning theme park scare event, and for this anniversary they are bringing a brand new scare maze, Tenement, to their already terrifying lineup. Stitches, Survival Games, Trailers and Dead Beat all return, along with scare zones, entertainment and all of your favourite rides and coasters in the dark.

The history of Thorpe Park Fright Nights has been ever changing, and we have been attending for such a long time now. Each Halloween season, they always bring some changes to keep the event refreshed and exciting. Now having Hyperia joining the coaster lineup, alongside The Swarm and Saw: The Ride, there are plenty of thrills to be had in the theme park from the rides alone.

Thorpe Park opens from 10am, with Fright Nights starting from 3pm when the event entertainment and mazes open, and the scare zones opening slightly later when the sun goes down. Tickets to the theme park can be purchased from £39, but note that entry to the scare mazes is extra and can be purchased in a package from £71 online.

Take a look at our thoughts from the press evening, as we were some of the first to take a step inside the fear of Thorpe Park Fright Nights.

THE OVERALL EVENT…

WOO – Variety & Quality | WOO – Side Shows | BOO – Roaming Characters

Our evening at Thorpe Park started from 6pm, and we were introduced to the cast on the bridge as we made our way onto the island. From here, we headed to the Launch Pad area, where Rebel Ball has taken the stage as a new entertainment hub. There is some Halloween overlay to the area, with the stage themed with orange balls, and sponsors who were giving out Fanta and Chupa Chups lollies. After the introduction show to kick start our evening, we were free to roam the park and enjoy all of the Fright Nights goodies.

Fright Nights for sure has incredible variety in terms of mazes, scare zones, entertainment and rides. As a theme park, you cannot be bored riding some of the world class rides such as Hyperia, The Swarm and even Stealth in the dark. They have 5 mazes for you to experience, all different themes, all providing different intensity and interactions for your frightful evening. The quality is to theme park standard, with highly detailed sets, costumes and performances, as you would expect from one of the leading theme parks in the UK.

What lacked for us during our visit, and what we feel for the 2026 season, is the absent roaming characters. It seems all of the cast and characters can be found in their set zones, if that’s the devils outside Ghost Train or the new rebels in Launch Pad. It just feels more limited and lacks the atmosphere and chaos from previous seasons.

Our side show rating is perfect for theme parks, as there is plenty to do in terms of the rides and attractions, but they also had a pop up attraction in the Big Easy Boulevard area, sponsored by Chupa Chups. They also have the Conjuring 4D to experience in the cinema, as extra additions outside of the mazes, scare zones and shows.

Tenement – New for 2026

WOO – Concept | WOO – Lighting & SFX | BOO –  Storytelling

The brand new maze for 2026 is Tenement, bringing a new fear to the island. Based on a senior living home, the lights have gone out and the tenants have vanished, which now means you have to go in as emergency electricians to restore the power. However, rumours of the LUXIVORA have returned and they are haunting beneath the foundations.

The attraction is very dark, and as such your group is given a torch at the front and the back to help guide your way. Therefore, they have the perfect use of lighting inside, as they can set the scene and allow you to see exactly what they want you to see at every moment. The torches themselves are great effects, as they flicker, turn off and adjust when needed. Slamming doors, set scenes and clever moving props all come together to create a very unique attraction. It is a shame the story is not more in-depth and the attraction does not continue it as you step in, with only a very short story given at the start and not much explained throughout the scenes. Room for improvement for sure could be seen here in future years. The concept of Tenement is pretty unique, with it being set in a senior living home, as you go in as the emergency electricians while a mysterious set of creatures lurk in the dark, which is genuinely nightmare material. A very strong debut for this brand new attraction.

Survival Games

WOO – Actor Performance | WOO – Actor Utilisation | BOO – Lighting & SFX

Survival Games returns for another season of scares and remains largely unchanged for 2026. Survival Games has gone through a few different versions over the years and now remains a pretty traditional maze, with a single set route on a slightly longer route than it would have had in its early renditions, themed around a game show where you must escape and survive as their terrifying test subjects. The actors inside are used greatly, with most of the cast having the chance to get you from many different angles and sides, even more so in the second half of the attraction. This does not go unnoticed, as it instantly feels like a larger cast when they can roam across multiple scenes. The lighting didn’t feel as great this year, and we are unsure if it was just overshadowed by other attractions, or if it just feels a little stale. The SFX seem limited inside, and outside some smoke and a chainsaw finale, it is limited compared to other attractions once more. That said, the actor performance inside Survival Games is the true highlight of this maze, providing intense scares, up close terror and energetic performance overall.

Dead Beat

WOO – Enjoyment | WOO – Screams | BOO – Audio

Dead Beat returns once more as you step into a party which you may never get to step away from. Music devours the soul, as this is no ordinary venue. One of our favourites from the evening, we got high intense scares around every corner. It felt like they just knew their spaces well, got right up close and provided horrifying movements to keep you wanting to move quickly. Outside of the main nightclub scenes inside, it seems the audio wasn’t as memorable or just lacked in general, which we hoped there would be slightly more of. Whilst there is audio, it just feels like the weakest element in comparison to the rest of our ratings. Dead Beat was enjoyed from start to finish, and we made sure we got on this more than once for that enjoyment factor, with both runs being standouts from this maze. Not one to miss from your Halloween experiences!

Trailers

WOO – Theming | WOO – Enjoyment | BOO – Actor Utilisation

Trailers is also a returning attraction, and this maze takes place in the SuperSparks Cinema, which is home to some very memorable scenes and history that may have happened at Thorpe Park over the years. This maze has scenes from the Buckwheats, the roaming hillbillies who once had their own saw mill before being kicked out. There are also the clowns from The Big Top, and new for 2026, we have new scenes, one of them being from My Bloody Valentine, a scare maze from the past also. The scene was simple but clear, and we love that they keep adding easter eggs inside Trailers, with it fitting the story and keeping surprises each year. With these different scenes, it does allow for the theming to be pretty high quality and keeps everything interesting. However, it does limit the actors’ movements, as the clowns can’t enter the Buckwheats scene and vice versa. All the scenes had at least 1-2 characters inside, meaning there is plenty to keep you occupied, scared and entertained, but we are sure during the peak season this may struggle. Trailers is always an enjoyable maze, with it having a great balance of scares, theming and interactions, scene to scene, year upon year.

Stiches

WOO – Actor Performance | WOO – Enjoyment | BOO – Screams

Stitches is back and the Toy Maker is ready for you to enter the emporium once more. Advertised with new characters for 2026, we were unable to see any or comment, however we have heard from others that there were, so it is dependent on what you see and how much you remember the attraction from past years. Stitches starts with a great introduction scene to set the story, before you step inside the Toymaker’s workshop and see the creation of some of the toys as they come alive. From stuffed bears, action figures and twisted dolls, nothing is off limits inside Stitches. We enjoyed our time walking around the different rooms and sets, getting creeped out by the toys and getting lost in the dark workshops. The scares felt a little less than in previous years, with some good jumpy moments, but many blank sections and not the same quality as previously. The actors we did see though did provide a great performance, with them moving in the darkness and interacting with you.

Lucifers Lair SCARE ZONE

WOO – Costume & Makeup | WOO – Actor Performance | BOO – Audio

Lucifer’s Lair returns, but as a much more scaled back and smaller scare zone for 2026. Once a hellish playground for Lucifer and his minions, also home to a fire show and other circus acts on a large stage, this has been stripped back to just his cages and throne, making for a very lacklustre scare zone. Compared to other years, it feels like this has not been thought about as much and not given the care and love of the other attractions. The minions and Lucifer were as good as ever, with their detailed costumes and hell wings, as they caused chaos and destruction around the Ghost Train plaza area. However, with no audio and no atmosphere, it just felt like they had to work harder than ever to keep the screams going and keep guests in the area. The actors did just that. The bar in the area is still somewhere you can get a drink and take a seat, but you will be attacked by Lucifer’s crew, on top of the crows.

The Crows of Mawkin Meadow

WOO – Actor Performance | WOO – Actor Utilisation | BOO – Storytelling

The Crows of Mawkin Meadow has been a crowd and fan favourite for many seasons now, with them being roaming characters and also having their own scare zone in years past. This year, they have moved to the pathway between Banana Boat and the arcade, giving them a much more reduced zone and much less of an attraction. It is a shame, as the cast they have in there are providing a fantastic experience for those brave enough to go through, with their scarecrow-like movements and their death stare, just being creepy in every way possible. The storytelling has been lost due to the loss of the space, it feels, with it being a short walkthrough lasting around 30-45 seconds. There is some audio, but outside this the story is not there. The actors are utilised very well, with there being split routes and it feels like new hiding spaces being created from that. A nice addition is the clash between Lucifer’s and The Crows, as they both battle for the space of the bar area, making for some entertaining and chaotic clashes.

Purgatory Town

WOO – Actor Performance | WOO – Enjoyment | BOO – Audio

Purgatory Town returns to the Big Easy Boulevard in the dark once more. As the darkness falls, join the voodoo celebrations, and for 2026 new inhabitants have taken up home here, as they want you to keep them occupied for Fright Nights, maybe to never leave! This area is very simple, as it only has some small additions in terms of props that they add to create this scare zone. This is much more of a lighthearted scare zone, compared to the chaos of Lucifer’s and the intense scares of the Crows. Here you can find the spirits roaming around, maybe wanting to share some jokes, pose for a picture or maybe something more sinister if you’re unlucky. The actors are able to have more freedom, it feels, in Purgatory Town, which we love and creates a much more enjoyable zone to spend more time in. Again, audio is missing in this zone, which could easily be added, we feel, and would bring this area to life once more. Overall, the actors will keep you entertained, and we had brilliant interactions with the vampire and drunk pirate!

Rebel Ball & Creature Campus

Creature Campus returns with a Reunion Reckoning show. The Supernatural Schoolkids return and old rivalries reignite, as it is time to see who is the most powerful on Campus. We see the return of Amity High, LycanThorpes, The Coven witches, Medusa with the Sarpedon Society and the Franks. All of them take centre stage to create one epic show and bring all of the history and renditions of this Creature Campus show and area together. With an all new show, story, dance performance and music playlist, it is another show not to miss.

You also have Rebel Ball, a brand new entertainment hub for 2026 taking place in the Launch Pad area. Here you can find a new music hub with a live DJ from the Fanta Wolf DJ (sponsored by Fanta), a dance show, fire performance and more. This being the new hub of all things freaky, it is a great place to host this zone to keep the party alive this Halloween, and whilst we only got to see an opening show on press night, we hope to see a little more on a later visit!

We didn’t get to try out the Chupa Chups pop up experience or The Conjuring 4D on our visit, as there wasn’t enough time. However, both of these make up all of the Fright Nights additions for the 2026 season.

As you can see, Thorpe Park Fright Nights returns with another powerful, sinister and strong lineup for their 25th anniversary. We love the new maze Tenement, with it really providing that intense, dark nature that Halloween and scare mazes should bring. We also love the Rebel Ball entertainment hub, and we hope to see more from here in future visits. All of the mazes seem to be running great, and we hope this holds up throughout Halloween. We also hope to see improvements in the scare zone offerings in 2027, as they do seem just a little lacklustre this season, which is sad to see.

A huge thank you to the team at Thorpe Park for inviting us to their preview and providing us entry ahead of the official opening, to be some of the first to witness the new additions. In return, we have provided our honest feedback of our experience on the night.

Thorpe Park Fright Nights is already open for the 2026 season, and you can book your tickets to the theme park and the scare mazes directly through the website.
