Necropolis has always been a highly immersive scare house at York Hallowscream, with its Egyptian theme and dark story to match. This attraction takes you into many themed lairs and inside the pyramid for a true adventure. From mummy tombs through to ancient symbols, you are transported into a different era as you step through the haunted path. While the Egyptian concept isn’t anything groundbreaking—as we have seen the theme used many times before—we still really appreciate their take on it. Necropolis is a pretty intense attraction, providing relentless scares, especially in places we just weren’t expecting them. They caught us off guard time and time again and utilized the darkness and space well, allowing the screams to fill the tomb.

The Flesh Pot takes on the typical slaughterhouse-style attraction with a dark and detailed story. From the moment you enter, you are lured into a false sense of security by Mrs. Donnington, before being taken behind the scenes to see what’s truly inside. The scares come thick and fast here, with horrifying masks and pig-like creatures hiding amongst the dark. The scares came from all angles, ensuring nobody is left out. The flow was again a challenge, as we did catch up with other groups and also had a group right behind us from the very start, which was a little annoying. However, the special effects compensate for this, as The Flesh Pot features sparks, drop windows, and even chainsaws, all of which keep adding to the horror level and intensity of the slaughterhouse experience.

The Singularity is a futuristic maze which features a blend of robots and humans. The story is about an inventor who wishes to merge the two forms to create “The Singularity” for the perfect future. Inside, you become another test subject and witness the riots hidden within, with the cast performing a range of different scenarios, from prison riots to haunting robotic test chambers. The flow was still a little bit of a problem, like with the other mazes, so this was not surprising, unfortunately. However, the special effects once again made up for it: the half-human, half-robot creatures use sparks, moving barrels, inflatable cushions, and smoke-filled chambers as just some of their effects. This all comes together to make a really enjoyable maze with a unique theme that we enjoy year upon year.
