Wake The Tiger is the world’s first Amazement Park, which can be found in Bristol. Step through the portal into another world, as you can look, touch and listen with this new interactive universe. Wake The Tiger is an immersive art experience which consists of 27 different creative environments, where no two rooms are alike and follows a story into this unusual landscape.
The vision behind Wake The Tiger is to “create raw, unbounded experiences that challenge and inspire us to transform the world we live in.” The experience was brought to life before hitting Bristol by one of the most popular UK Festivals, Boomtown fair.
“Having spent over a decade creating one of the most large scale immersive festival experiences in the world, we wanted to expand and diversify our creative potential by establishing a year round arts & events venue where our audience can experience the work in a non-festival environment. From this Amazement Park our creative community can evolve and explore an ongoing, collaborative process together.”
We were kindly invited over by the team to experience Wake The Tiger recently and below you can find out more on what the experience is, a snippet of some of our favourites bits, some images and videos as well as our thoughts & key information.
What is Wake The Tiger?
As highlighted, Wake The Tiger is an immersive & interactive art display which takes you into many different themed environments, created by many talented people. The experience would allow you to explore in your own time and has a fitting backstory to keep you more immersed with the world they have designed.
With the front of the experience being Merida Luxury Homes, this was a development company who were designing new luxury homes which you were there to view & explore, before purchasing of course. At Merida Homes, they like to think “inside the box”, which is why they have specially themed living spaces that are designed for you to open up a world of opportunity and possibilities.
From here, you then meet a caretaker in a rather rustic area who has heard whispers and seen ‘things’. A portal, into the Meridian world has been found and this would allow you to cross the line into this new world. From here, you would be on your own in this new world…
Our Favourite bits
After the great introduction into the Meridian world, we were then allowed to experience the displays and areas in our own time. With so much to explore, we wanted to make sure we could see everything possible. As we don’t want to spoil the whole experience for everyone looking to visit, we are going to highlight a handful of the themed lands which we loved.
Starting with The Street, which is the central hub for those travelling through the worlds. With curious artefacts and strange objects from lost cities and forgotten towns, the place was very unusual. Everywhere you looked, there was something interesting to look at here. From posters, to statues in the windows to even messages written on the walls. The more you looked, the more you got to see here.
With lots of small passageways, some interactive props and even a hidden slide, there was plenty in this room alone to blow us away for a start of an experience. From here it would be interesting however, as throughout the experience we were told there may be hidden passageways, secret rooms and it may not be easy to see everything on your way round…
The Galaxy Room & Observatory
The Galaxy Room was a very pretty room and a very photogenic area of the experience. Here you could find a cleverly designed, mirrored object which had a great light package and was perfect to get some unique photos. There was other light displays which happened in this room which you could get lost in. With the message of; “Infinite and unending, vast and relentless with a distinct method to its madness. Divine symmetry in its everlasting majesty the sacred geometry of eternity.”
The Observatory was similar with a funky projection mapping of the galaxy across the room. Finding yourself staring at the galaxy and beyond for too long, it was certainty a favourite of ours.
The Library
The Library was a simple room in first glances but not the easiest to find. Hidden away somewhere in the experience, we managed to find it through a secret passage way, here you can explore some unique visual trickery, as well as some other great photo opportunities.
Like with all of the themed displays, they all had something new and different to look at. For those who like to take photos, you could take as many as you wished and for those who like to explore, could and would be rewarded with hidden rooms and interactive points. Sometimes they were hidden in plain sight whilst others required you to look just a little closer. We loved this throughout and found some places where nobody was in the room except us, such as The Library!
Wake The Tiger is easily found in Bristol and has its own car park for the experience, which is free of charge. Getting to this location without a car is possible, but would recommend it for ease. You can find yourself here for some time, with some people who like to just go through everything at a quick pace can do it in around 45 minutes, with those who wish to explore and get lost & immersered, it could be up to 2 hours.
Ticket costs do change depending if it is off peak or peak, with it being £15 off peak from adults and £18.50 during peak for adults. Children between 5-12 are cheaper and under 5 as well as carers can enter for free. Timeslot entry is required, with slots going every 15 minutes. Opening times are best found on the website as they do change depending on weekday vs weekend. Tickets are only being sold until the end of April 2023 at the time of writing this, so you don’t have too much longer left if you wish to experience this unique experience!
We have only highlighted a small number of the rooms we got to check out, so with many many more to see, you are going to love it. Nothing is quite like this wacky parallel world they have created, so even if art isn’t your thing, it is still worth checking it out.
