THE OVERALL EVENT…
WOO – uniqueness | Boo – entertainment | Woo – Variety & Quality
The Nightmare Realm is an event we’ve heard so much about over the years and how well it was doing over in Ireland. For 2026 however, they’ve made the journey overseas to bring their unique attractions to a London audience for the first time ever. With over 17 years of experience behind them, we knew they would be bringing their A game for 2026.
The location is based in Avery Hill and we managed to get a tube nearby and then a short lift to the venue and park up. Once you’ve passed through security and ticket checks, you are free to explore. There are 2 mazes on the lineup but worth noting, that isn’t all there is to do. They have 5 unique experience hidden around which you can also take part in and enjoy however, they are a mystery to most of what’s hidden inside them. This links in with how unique the event is, as having 2 mazes and 5 experiences, it focuses more on the other entertainment than what most people are used to.
What they are lacking in its opening year definitely has to be the entertainment. There wasn’t much outside of the attractions, with no stage show or DJ or band. Whilst there is plenty to enjoy, we would love to see them take a look at this for next year for those not wanting to queue or wait for certain experiences and give the whole event another layer of enjoyment. That being said, with them having what they have, the variety is so different and the quality is up there too. Everything was built with purpose and detail, with every corner you turn there being theming, with some of it being so minor that most guests wouldn’t even recognise or appreciate.
Sundown Manor
WOO – Costume & Makeup | WOO – Theming | BOO – audio
Sundown Manor takes on a vampire themed maze as you are invited to step into their feast where you may not step out alive. The theming in here was top notch, with there being theming all around, with plenty of props and scenic sets. The standout has to be the large hall at the end which really gives a large scale scene to finish the attraction.
Whilst the manor does have audio, it didn’t feel to be one of the stronger elements. It wasn’t as memorable or as noticeable compared to the rest of the attractions and just felt like it could have stood out more through the key scenes.
We felt this attraction definitely had some grand costumes and makeup design. With vampires you notice their costumes and of course, the teeth and both of these were crystal clear in detail. Every creature had character and personalisation to them, with our favourite being one at the front who looked very gruesome. Some of the best vampires we’ve seen!
Avery Hill Asylum
WOO – Storytelling | WOO – actor performance | BOO – Lighting & SFX
Avery Hill Asylum is a dark theme and fits the location the attraction is set in. Hosted in what looks to be an abandoned university building, you go through a number of corridors and rooms where the doctor Thorne is waiting for you to be his next experiment. It has a detailed introduction scene which sets the story about the doctor and it travels well across the rest of the maze. With some stop scene moments that keep growing that story throughout, it was definitely a top element in this attraction.
The weakest would have to be the effects. Whilst it did feature some effects, it just felt too spaced out and used more of the natural setting to do the heavy lifting. Therefore, the effects they did use were great but just let down by the lighting and natural environment picking it up where it fell short.
What makes Avery Hill Asylum has to be the cast, as they really did pull out all the stops to create this haunting maze. Bringing it to life by roaming the corridors, as failed experiments. Some moved along creepy and quietly whilst others screamed the corridors down. We had friendly chats to some whilst others didn’t want to let us go. The variation here really made it believable that you were in an asylum setup and with so many rooms and corridors, you really didn’t know where the next character would get you.
Halloween Town
WOO – Concept | WOO – lighting & SFX | BOO – Screams
Halloween Town is a unique concept as it brings a scare zone to life with more than just roaming characters and entertainment. Here you’ll find 5 different experiences which take small groups inside a themed room and have a 60 second – 5 minute experience play out. Each of them are completely different but come together as part of Halloween Town itself. This is a great concept and something we don’t believe the UK scare scene has ever seen before. It was so unusual but they genuinely were a lot of fun and completely complimented the whole atmosphere.
Although the scares and fear was still strong, it was still the weaker element of Halloween Town. It was more opportunities to interact with characters and also explore these experiences however, some of them will leave you with a fright and wanting to run to escape (if you can).
Combining everything they had here, the effects blew us away. Nothing was the same and everything was not what we could ever expect. Our favourite has to be The Coffin Parlour, which has to be the most unique attraction within The Nightmare Realm and possibly the UK?
The Nightmare Realm certainly kept up with our expectations and with what we have heard over the years. They have brought their passion and experience over to the London location and have created something so unique that many people won’t have experienced before. With so many highlights, from the high detailed costumes, storylines and effects, it is hard not to fall in love with their creation in 2026.
A huge thank you to the team for working with us and inviting us. They did provide us complimentary entry in return for our honest feedback, rating and content.
We hear that a return in 2027 is expected and expect it to be bigger, better and even more unique than! If you can get a ticket for this year, then we recommend it but they are selling out as Halloween gets closer and closer…
