Clays Bar Canary Wharf Review

Clays Bar Title

Looking for a new experience in the heart of London? Then look no further, as Clays is the perfect venue for guaranteed competitive gameplay and thrilling interactive action. Clays is one of the newest social venues that have hit the streets of London which has taken inspiration from clay target shooting. With mammoth screens, realistic guns and a swanky venue, Clays promises an unforgettable experience every time for everyone.

For those who have not come across some of the latest venues taking over the capital, Clays is a social gaming venue which offers an interactive experience in a unique way. Whilst clay target shooting is usually an activity played outside and may not be everyone’s idea of fun, Clays have designed a brand new way for you to experience this classic activity by placing it indoors, using the latest technology and providing a more classy feel.

With multiple hot events running, two venues open in London and plenty of food & drink to choose from, Clays should be on your radar to visit this year.

So let’s delve a little deeper into the Clays experience. The recommendation is to book online for your experience. You can currently choose from 2 locations in London, being the city, which can be found in Moorgate, or Canary Wharf, where we decided to visit. Prices for the Canary Wharf venue range depending on peak, off peak or Saturday bookings, plus the number of players. The shooting peg can host groups of 2-22 players for either 30, 60 or 90 minutes.

There is many exceptions to the above rules and different offers for small groups, lunches and late night are on offer, so it always worth checking the website to see when best works for you. Saturday costs £10 per person and depending on the number of players depends on your game time. The value from money is 100% here and is perfect for couples through to large group outings.

Our experience was very kindly sponsored by the Clays team, who provided us 5 tickets for a 90 minute session. This included some food & drink so we can showcase what they have on offer in the review below.

Upon finding the Canary Wharf venue on the dockside, we entered and were greeted by one of the hosts at the check in desk. Here they took us to our shooting peg which would be where the experience and game play happens. With a short introduction, you are left to start setting up and getting straight into the action.

In your booth, you have a comfy seating area, storage space for your bags, a bin and even some hand sanitiser. There is also two smaller screens, one to setup your game and to control all of your game play needs, whilst the other is for your food and drink. These screens are very simple to use to set up your game and to order food and drinks, with a card machine on the side to have it all done in your booth.

As you setup your game, you need to enter your name, email and take a little photo so it can all be displayed on the bigger interactive screen when playing. Entering your email allows for any moments during your time at Clays to be sent to you after your session is over. If you need a little extra help, the friendly staff are on standby and they can give you a little demonstration on what to expect and how to play!

Clays offer more than your standard game of target shooting, they have designed a multitude of games you can play with your team to take your game to the next level. We started off with the basic game of Peloton, which allowed us to learn the basics of how to shoot the interactive gun. The game is simple, shoot as many of the clay targets as possible to get your bike to the finish line. The more you shoot, the more targets would appear and the bigger the score you would get. Whilst simple in principle, accuracy is always a difficult skill to master and that is no different here.

With our first game, we were already in love with how different it was to everything else out there. The gun wasn’t light and cheap, it felt heavy and realisitic to the real thing. With the large screens and your private space, it made your time at Clays very enjoyable to just enjoy this experience and be super competitive.

After each game, you get awarded a medal and points. So with each game, there is something at stake as you may win 1 game, but if you do consistantly well, you may win the session against the rest of your team. Whilst each game requires skill, anybody and everybody has the chance of winning with tactical moves and luck. Equally, if you don’t fancy playing solo, you can set up teams which adds a new layer to competitiveness within your group!

Whilst playing the many games Clays has to offer, it is always worth getting a beverage and food whilst you are there too. They have a range of options to choose from, all can be ordered via the machine in your booth. They have a range of cocktails, spirits and soft drinks depending on what tickles your fancy when you are here. For food, they had a mixture of fancier options than most. It wasn’t your typical fast food like burger, hotdog and chips, it was more upper class like the venue style was giving off.

We were kindly supplied a vegetarian platter and two rounds of free drinks, which allowed us to explore some of the options they had. The vegetarian sharing platter was perfect for 3-4 guests, providing Korean Fried cauliflower, field to fork flamed celeriac, sweetcorn ribs, English potato nachos and giant green olives. They have many other food options and platters available, so do take a look on the website prior to your visit or just when you at the venue.

Our guests enjoyed the food. Ben said; “The food was delicious, and the sharing platters were quite good value. A nice range of snacks with a great range of sauces.” Peter mentioned; ““For those with dietary restrictions, there are some original vegetarian food options available, served with delicious sauce.” Finally, Savannah said; “At Clays there was a great variety of food available, all sourced from family owned British suppliers. The vegetarian platter definitely offered something a little more exciting and premium than your standard activity food fare. KFC (Korean Fried Cauliflower) was a standout dish with a real flavour hit, although the sweetcorn ribs were a close second. If enjoying a cocktail, the sharing platters seem the perfect accompaniment.”

With the drinks, they had a range of classic cocktails with a few we have never heard before. All of the drinks were strong but delicious. We all had a range as you can see in our photos and every one of us enjoyed each and every sip. They were on the upper end of prices but for a venue of this cailibre, it would be expected and falls well within the London range of prices.

Overall, Clays was swanky, original and memorable. With the venue being based on mini games based on clay target shooting, it really is interesting to see a spin on a classic. They selection of mini games were impressive and the time frame to complete them during our 90 minute session felt just right. The venue iw as set in was very stylish and had a stunning interior compared to similar venues, feeling more fancier than your average social gaming venue.

Dean had the following to say about our visit; “The experience makes clay pigeon shooting accessible to all in a fun social environment. I was apprehensive about playing a digital version and how limited the gameplay would be but was pleasantly surprised by the choice of games which really kept it fresh. It really allowed for our competitive sides to come out, especially in some scenarios having the option to sabotage the other players scores!”

Austyn mentioned; “Clays really was the real deal. For the venue to be fancy in this location at Canary Wharf felt really fitting and kept a nice setting of the whole experience. I enjoyed each and every game as I got better, and the time did honestly fly by. 90 minutes as a group of 5 just allowed us to complete each one of the games, and that was with us playing at a reasonably fast pace. Meaning for the average visitor, you can come back to try new games and get better. A nice after touch is having photos and videos sent to your email after your visit, along with your scores being remembered so you can try and beat them on your next visit!”

A huge thank you to the team for letting us visit and offering us an insane package. Make sure you check out our TikTok and images of what you can expect when you visit Clays. With 2 venues across London and many offers currently on, there is no excuse not to visit for some original, interactive fun!
