Step into the nightmarish world created by The London Bridge Experience for 2023, this is Cir-Curse! WIth a terrifying curse being unleashed into the world, are you brave enough to experience and face your fears?
Before we delve into the world of Cir-Curse, The London Bridge Experience is the home to this new Halloween addition, but this year round attraction is one of London’s most popular tourist destinations. It is open daily on a year round operation to provide the history of London Bridge, on a character led, interactive & immersive adventure. You get to meet characters like Jack the Ripper & William Wallace as you see, hear and smell what it is was like almost 2000 years ago. You also get to experience The London Tombs, a scare maze that follows the tour, meeting all kinds of creatures such as doctors, clowns, zombies & more.
However for Halloween, everything gets a little more spooky and they host two unforgettable adventures to experience. During the day, they have a Halloween family fun adventure where you can experience the mysterious legend of London Bridge & the historical characters that linked with it. This is perfect for families but will include a number of thrilling scares this Halloween, and runs daily from the 1st – 31st of October.
Now to the event we experienced, which is Cir-Curse. This being the adult only experience with limited dates which takes over the venue at night. On October 20th, 21st and the 26th – 31st, Cir-Curse is a 25 minute show and for those who hate clowns well… they will have a haunting time! Tickets are around £27 – £30 and are best purchased online prior to visiting.
Our Thoughts from this event…
We were very excited to attend Cir-Curse as we haven’t managed to visit The London Bridge Experience in over 10+ years, so we knew the venue would of had lots of changes since then. Our evening began on a press preview night where we were one of the first few to get to experience this new Halloween addition. Before we got to enter the clowns den, we took a seat in Slammers Cocktail Bar, where they had a clown overlay to what is usually a prison themed cocktail bar. We enjoyed a few drinks & food items before being collected to enter the maze.
What is worth mentioning which is possibly even more spookier than the maze is the venue is now home to a cursed painting. The London Bridge Experience were crazy enough to purchase this painting from a charity shop before the event began and it is now hung up in the venue. With a number of spooky stories, real or not, it has gained a lot of attention!
After the scary stories, we then stepped down the staircase and into the world of Cir-Curse…
The experience started with meeting Papa Popotesco and learning his dark & twisted story and how the circus is now cursed. You then begin to enter a number of rooms which mix between a traditional scare maze, walking through themed corridors & rooms with actors jumping out alongside set scenes with you meeting characters, immersing you more into the story.
The theming across the attraction was very high quality, with the overall theme being circus themed, it allows for a fun, colourful & vibrant maze in many of the sections. Whilst they have many scenes that show this, they had many dark corridors with other horrifying props and cool effects. It had many great rooms with impressive sets, including the clown in candy land & hillbilly clown scene. For this reason, it clearly did what a clown attraction sets out to do, with many dark scenes giving a cursed vibe & the light clown nature of the theming, it scores 85% with us!
The storyline was always very impressive, as the introduction room sets the scene for the rest of the attraction. With a number of other stop sections where you get to meet the characters and they take you into the story more, it provides a great immersive tale. Therefore, it scores a strong & respectable 70%.
Next up in our ratings is the screams and, don’t get us wrong, we screamed & jumped a lot in Cir-Curse. They had designed & crafted many scenes which left us jumping out of our skin. They had many hiding places and were able to produce plenty of jump scares and when these weren’t happening, they were creeping us out with the tales of the story. Same as for the laughs of the event, we had many moments which had us laughing. Whether that is due to the clowns mocking us or the characters they were portraying. Which is perfect for a clown maze, as you cannot have clowns and not have laughter. Both combined was a perfect blend and what we love to see in a scare attraction, therefore they both scored 70%.
The last rating point for us is the actors and they did incredible for a preview of the event. As with any opening night of a new attraction, finding the spaces to work in and getting their characters story across is sometimes very difficult but the team smashed that. With a range of jump scare sections and story sections, we couldn’t spot any faults with their performance. Overall, we scored them 70% on this also.
The experience for Cir-Curse lasted between 20-30 minutes for us and whilst it is quite a short Halloween attraction, for it to use the The London Bridge venue and it to be in the heart of London, it is super unique & will be one of the most terrifying experiences in the capital. The price is a little on the premium side but again, anything in London has a higher price bracket but what you are getting is a premium clown experience which won’t be a dissapointment.
Our favourite part of Cir-Curse had to be the set scenes where different stories were told by each character and it is nice to have these, instead of just walking through a maze and being jumped out on every 2 seconds. So to have this type of experience, it is certainly welcomed this Halloween.
