tFear Island returns for another year of spine-chilling Halloween fun, with mazes, shows even a Halloween overlay to one of the rides! Fear Island is on for it’s seventh year at this sea side park and they have teamed up with Gary Starr Creative to make it their most fearsome one yet.
All set within the grounds of Fantasy Island, Fear Island is the Halloween overlay to the park during selected dates throughout October. Fantasy Island opens as normal with a huge range of indoor & outdoor rides, arcades, minigolf and much more going on to experience. Based over near Skegness in Ingoldmells, you can find this park over in the north east of the UK and is highly popular during the summer season.
For 2023, Fear Island returns with 3 adult scare mazes, 1 kids scare maze, the Circus of Screams & Captain Jack’s pirate show. This is in addition to the Toucan Tours Temple Of Gloom Halloween overlay on one of the indoor rides. With some new elements to this event and the return of Psycho Mansion, it is certainly growing as an event since we started going.
Tickets for Fear Island can be purchased alongside the rest of your day, which includes the rides. Wristbands cost £32.50 for the smaller rides or £39.50 for the adult rides and these also include 1 go on all of the Halloween additions. For £20, you can purchase a Scream Pass, which gives you entry into the 4 mazes & Circus of Screams show and, you can buy 1 shots to each maze or show for £5 each per person.

Our thoughts for 2023…
As huge fans of Fantasy Island, the Fear Island event is always worth our visit each year. Since our first visit to Fear Island, it has grown massively, with it having a range of changes along its way. This year, they have teamed up with a creative company to help reimagine the event, with the plan to make it scarier and better quality overall.
Outside of the mazes, they do have a free stage show on in the main pyramid area which is the Captain Jack’s pirate show. This is great to see a park put on free entertainment, perfect for guests in the local area or guests not looking to do any rides and just waiting around.
The rides are always a great touch, we managed to get on Millennium, a smooth Vekoma ride which looks glorious in the sun. Unfortunately Odyssey was closed on this visit, but this is an iconic coaster also which we have had the chance to ride multiple times on previous visits. The park was extremely lively with it seeming to be very popular on day 1 of Fear Island, the weather was pretty warm giving it being October.

Psycho Mansion

Psycho Mansion was an attraction that caught our eye on the lineup, as it returns to the park after being missed out the last few years. This year, it looks grand at the front of the park with its 3 storey height and smoke filled entrance. As you enter within, we got to meet a range of characters which took us on a dark story of the mansion, as we come face to face with the possessed spirits. This maze had many super cool effects and show scenes, which added to the story and created an immersive adventure. This was much better than how it was in previous years and is completely unrecognisable in some sections. We are huge fans of seeing this attraction reborn and believe it will be a popular hit for all guests who are brave enough to enter.
The Ravenous

A brand new maze for 2023 and this is called The Ravenous. Based on meeting the family who have an insatiable appetite, you get to meet everyone and shown your way to a seat at the table ready for dinner. Before entering the cabin in small groups, you get to meet one of the brothers from the start and if you are lucky, he may sing you a song or two on the banjo. This was a very intense attraction which had a perfect blend of screams & laughs, with it using a mixture of show scenes with jump scare sections in between. The whole cast put all their effort in to making this a truly terrifying experience for us, this was from the moment we stepped foot into the queue to the moment we were chased out. Even then they weren’t done with us. Ravenous was very popular during our visit and if you are after a fright this year, it is highly recommended.
Ghostly Tales of the Crypt

The Ghostly Tales of the Crypt is the child maze at the event and this attraction is based for the younger audience as a first step into the spooky world. You step into the crypt and meet with father as he tells you about some of the ghostly ongoings that he has seen & heard. You then walk through a number of scenes meeting a range of spooky but friendly characters as they continue on the story, advising you to watch out for the Jester, who may be dead. It had plenty of laughs and just a few scares, which is perfect for children and families who want some frights but not to be terrified.
Outpost
Theming 75% | Storyline 80% | Screams 85% | Laughs 50% | Actors 80%
Outpost is the next bone-chilling attraction and this is another one for the true thrill & chill seekers. Based on zombies in a post-apocalyptic world as they overrun the city, you join the military team who set out on getting you to the safe zone. With that said, it never is as easy as they make out, as zombies always seem to come in hordes. The ending scene showed us just that with the whole cast coming towards us and circling us in, a truly terrifying moment. The setting was dark and it had many haunting scenes, with some really impressive theming sections which made it feel like a run down city. Overall, a great new attraction to the lineup which was also very popular.
Circus of Screams

The Circus of Screams returns for another year at the Fear Island event with a large selection of freakish acts out to entertain you. We managed to see an ariel hula hoop artist, which showed us some incredible skills on a hoop in the air. We seen the chef who had a fun section of spinning plates and other humourous elements. Another spectacle was the escape artists, who showed us how quick he could escape from multiple locking devices, from handcuffs to a strait jacket, nothing was too difficult for him. Overall, it provided a hair-raising 30 minute show which when included in your Fear Island wristband & Scream Pass for this year, it was very worthwhile spending a part of your day watching this show.
Overall, Fear Island has gone from strength to strength with this year having one of the best lineups yet. The three adult mazes really have some incredible moments and set pieces, which when brought together in small groups, can catch you off guard and make you jump & scream. The Ravenous & Outpost are the top two from the event but Psycho Mansion was great to see returning to the event. All three were very popular, with them having queues the whole day on the opening weekend. It is worth noting the mazes open from 1pm, but it is best to check on the day of your visit if the hours change.
