Whether you want to race like a Formula 1 driver or shoot zombies, or maybe get lost in virtual reality, YuMe have you covered.
The company design an entertainment centre with the whole family in mind, featuring a variety of attractions such as arcade games and virtual reality experiences to enjoy. They have a safe, fun and engaging environment for families and people of all ages. They have almost 100 games on offer and have provided fun for over 950,000 guests since they opened their doors.
You can find YuMe World open 7 days a week between 11am through to 10pm, allowing plenty of time to visit and enjoy what they have to offer. Located at The Gate, this is a shopping centre which has parking at the location and is easily walkable when you are out exploring the rest of the city. Finding the location is easy when within the building itself with its bright & vibrant entrance and glowing neon sign.
We managed to visit YuMe World during our visit to Newcastle in 2023 and below is our thoughts on the pricing, selection of games we got to play and overall thoughts of this arcade!
YuMe World is one of the new style arcades which require you to have a gamecard to play any of the experiences at the arcade. This is simply done by using one of the machines or you can speak with someone and they can set you up at the counter. They have different packages available which turn your money into credits and each game costs different amounts depending on what it is. When you scan your card at each game, you will gain points which you can then trade in for prizes, similar to tickets at the older arcades but just all done digitally.
Once you have your card, you can top it up for future visits using the counter or machines and the more you top it up, the more free credits you will be given. On different nights, the YuMe World team put on offers to attract different crowds, such as 30% discount on all games every Monday & Tuesday and you can purchase a £10 YuMe World card and recieve an extra £5 free credit. This is not the only offer they have, so it is always worth taking a look during midweek visits and special events.
They have a range of games to play and with so much to choose from, you are sure to find many favourites and replayable games. You have your classic arcade machines, new school virtual reality experiences, shooting & driving games, sports and even competitive games.
During our time there, we managed to play such a great mixture of games. We played coin pushers, basketball throwing and even air hockey. We even tried out some of the virtual reality machines in the main arcade which was a simulation which took you on a wild journey. Out of everything we played, we found the games most enjoyable were the competitive 2 player ones, however this would depend what you like playing.
Whilst we didn’t explore everything they had on offer, they had different sections of games, from the sports section to the more active games, then a section with a host with the new virtual reality world games. It was well thought out and was pretty popular during our visit with it having a lively atmosphere for sure.
With it situated in a bright and vibrant setting it really makes everything super appealing to explore. It was clean and everything was simple. We had no complaints during our time and could easily lose many hours in a place like this, especially when they have special offers on during the mid week.
In total, we probably spent about 45-60 minutes here and checked out only a small selection of what they had on offer. For people who visit seaside arcades more often, it was great to be able to explore games we wouldn’t typically play and have that kind of experience.
Yume World at Newcastle was a fantastic entertainment centre which does what it says, provides family fun with a range of games to anyone who wishes to visit, from kids through to adults, couples and friends, they have you covered. If you want to play coin pushers or if you want to dance or play some virtual reality, you have all that option here under one roof.
Dean mentioned after visiting YuMe “So many unique and eye-catching arcade games and of course many of them are my favourites!”. Austyn said “YuMe World was a great futuristic arcade with the bright lights and different types of games. It shows how far arcades have come from to where they are now and I am all for it, YuMe World is amazing!”
We would love to say thank you to the team behind YuMe World for working with us during our visit and providing us with two player cards with some free playing credits to be able to explore the arcade and be able to provide our honest review of the Newcastle location. Whilst they did provide us with free credits, all information in this review has come from us directly.
If you are near the Newcastle area or you are a arcade lover, then you should definitely check out YuMe World when you can. With new games and constant expansions, and even a location in Durham, there is no reason why you shouldn’t visit. Let us know what your favourite arcade game is over on our socials!
