Furuvik has over a hundred years of history which is dedicated to exciting rides, animals and magical concert evenings. Opening back in 1900 based on the American model of an amusement park and recreational ground, they started out with exotic animals such as elephants & crocodiles with picnic grounds and dancing which drew attention back then. However during the first World War, it was difficult to run the park so it was shut down and reopened shortly after with continuing success.
Nowadays Furuvik is a place for all, young or old, as they have a large zoo which work to preserve the endangered animals. Additional to this, they have a ever growing area dedicated to rides & attractions and this is including the beautiful landscape of the sea and wildlife at its border. Owned by Parks & Resorts, they also look after Kolmarden Zoo, Grona Lund & Skara Sommerland in the Nordic region.
The park opens in May and continues through to around October/November and our visit was in the late summer of 2023. This allowed us to explore the park on a lovely sunny day, which allowed for us to have a great day and explore everything they had to offer.
Tickets are best to be booked online where they have multiple options for you to choose. For example, Furuvik host concert nights on a large stage in the amusement area, so if you attend on a day where they have a concert then this would be the best package. They have a hotel within walking distance of the park if you wish to stay local and for those travelling by public transport like us, we used the train which the station was opposite the park entrance and was easy to navigate back to Stockholm.
Thrilling Rides & Attractions
Furuvik has three thrilling coasters at the park, with a brand new coaster for 2023 which was Lightning. This is a launched coaster which hits speed of 75km/h in 3 seconds. With its twisty layout created by Vekoma, you take 2 laps on this fast paced ride and it was actually a great family launched coaster with plenty of thrills. The other two coasters are Fireball, a boomerang coaster which goes forward and then backwards. Finally you have Draken, a kids coaster but fun for the whole family.
Furuvik have plenty of other smaller attractions for all ages, such as a drop tower, bumper cars and teacups. These can all be found in the same area of the park as the bigger rides.
The standout attraction outside the big rides for us was The Ghost Host, standing in a huge gothic tower, we were surprised to see an attraction like this at Furuvik. This was a dark ride inside a mysterious castle which required you to take a ride and shoot the ghouls and ghosts as you go around. With bright UV lights and a pretty spooky setting, it was actually a very good attraction and better than many others we had been on. This is one attraction not to miss or overlook on your journey, like we almost did!

The Zoo
Furuvik has more than just rides and has a lot of the park dedicated to the animals. They have such a wide range of animals, from typical farm animals, to orangutans through to snakes & alpacas. We spend a lot of our time wandering around the ara with the animals, with a lot of being interactive for the younger audience.
One of the more unique spots when walking around this area is that they have a slow boat ride which gets up close to some of the animals. It is lovely on a sunny day and really allows for you to get some great photos. Outside of this, we had fun meeting the lemurs who were also enjoying the sunshine. We were able to get up super close with these and get some great photos for ourselves.
Furuvik has really done an amazing job with this part of the park, with its huge landscape that it has, it allows for you to have a long walk and see some great animals on your day. A lot of families were doing this and this was a very popular part of the park.
Unique Attractions
Whilst exploring Furuvik, it had many unique attractions from the likes of The Ghost Hunt and the new Lightning coaster, however if you do search far enough in the corner of the park, you will find a very different part of Furuvik. This part of the park we were first confused at but as we ventured in, it was a woodland walk with lots of activities inside. Whilst perfect for kids, it was nice to see something like this with the landscape they have.
Even further in though, there was a war bunker hidden underground. This was a real bunker used in the war and has many chambers you can explore within. We managed to catch one of the workers who had plenty of history to share with us and even show us some of the really cool props within. There were genuine war items on display, with the most impressive being the long range turrets which faced the sea and were used once upon a time. Something like this was such a hidden gem as we had no idea something like this was here and even if war & history isn’t your thing, it is still very cool to see in this day and age.
You do have to enter through the bunker doors which are quite steep and within is pretty claustrophobic, so keep this in mind if you do dare explore.
Furuvik’s Landscape
One thing to note outside of the chaos of the rides and the charm of the animals is the landscape Furuvik is set in. With it being on the edge of the sea, it really does allow for such a picturesque place. There are many parts of the park you can explore and you would just think you are out in the countryside. We managed to get some really cool photos and see some neat sights too on our adventure.
The whole setting of Furuvik was so much nicer than expecting. We weren’t sure on what to prepare for from the entrance, it seemed like a generic theme park but the charm shows the deeper you look. Whilst the animals and rides are great, you have to keep some time to just walk around and explore this place. One of the most beautiful parks we have seen in a long time.
Overall, Furuvik was a huge favourite on our trip, and this came by a complete surprise to all of us. Whilst it may not have many rides and there are bigger zoos, the way Furuvik is presented from the beautiful landscapes through to the many hidden surprises throughout, you can’t help but fall in love with this place. We can see the exciting developments of Furuvik with the brand new coaster for 2023 being Lightning and they are constantly improving the rest of the natural areas too.
We can see that the concert nights would be an amazing setting to meet up with friends and family as you listen to some popular music. They have artists such as Samir & Viktor, Dolly Style and more performing in 2024, so if you can time a visit with a concert night, we would highly recommend it.
We would love to say thank you to the team at Parks & Resort and Furuvik for inviting us to explore the park. They provided us 4 tickets free of charge to explore the park and provide our videos and review to share with you. We cannot recommend that Furuvik is on your to do lists for 2024 and with it being easy to get to from Stockholm by public transport, there is no excuse not to!
