During our visit to the award winning escape rooms at Tulleys, we took on the hardest escape room we ever have done and is known as one of the hardest in the UK! Nethercott Manor is a true challenge for even the most experienced in the industry and with such a title, we decided now was a great time to see if we were worthy of beating this haunted manor.

We found ourselves taking on Nethercott Manor during our first visit to Tulleys, but we did this alongside the newest experience, Spellcraft. We took this room on 2nd so we had time to warm up and have a better chance of escaping this complex adventure. It is rated 10/10 in difficulty rating for teams of 2-4, with our team of 7 it falls about a 8.5/10, which is still a lot for that many people in a room. This time the amount of puzzles would only be half the problem, as it seems they would be hard to solve.
Nethercott Manor can be played in teams of 2-8 however, we recommend teams of 6-8 at a minimum in this room unless you are super clever & confident with escape rooms. Our whole group was and we only just managed to escape with our team of 7. Prices vary depending on how many people and follows the same structure as the other rooms, costing between £72 – £208 per team depending on how many players and when you decide to play.

Theming & Storyline – 9/10
Nethercott Manor has quite a dark and haunting story, with it being based on the Nethercott family, which are now long gone. However, with strange happenings being seen at the property, we find ourselves breaking in and exploring this giant manor. Starting off outside in the garden and having to break our way in was a great introduction and our experience started dark and haunting as you would expect. The theming inside the manor was horrifying and matched what we would want from a dark and sinister theme. From creaky floors and wooden decor, with old props and special effects to keep you on edge in the corners you weren’t looking in, this kept us moving with haste. Things only got scarier when we had to go up the narrow staircase into the attic and you know that an attic in a haunted house is only bad news. Nethercott Manor kept up with the traditional haunted house style room and was done very well. The story was simple enough to follow but detailed enough for us to be involved.
Puzzles & Flow – 7/10
The puzzles inside the manor were very complex and we could see why it gets its rating. No challenge was necessarily easy, each had its own challenges and some had multiple layers to it. With there being a fair few different rooms, we did require to split up to try and solve some of the puzzles and swap over a few times when one puzzle was too much. We wouldn’t say this messed with the flow of the room as there was so much to find, see and do but they were for players who had solved puzzles and rooms before, so you need a smart team. As we got to the later part of the experience and went up to the attic, we really started to struggle as the puzzles got really tricky.
Uniqueness – 6/10
Whilst the manor isn’t unique as such, as it is a giant haunted house, it does have elements that make it pretty creepy. The use of special effects are always cool to see and the large range of puzzles which you don’t see everywhere else is also quite cool. I think the caption of one of the hardest escape room games in the UK does stand out and makes Nethercott Manor more unique than others in a similar field. We only managed to just escape with a minute left on our clock and we were very kindly given some extra time, as 60 minutes was just a little too difficult for us.
Overall, we loved Nethercott Manor, it was truly creepy and gave us all many chills as we had to walk around its creaky floors trying to solve all of its mysteries it had hidden in each nook & cranny. We found ourselves always solving a puzzle or trying to find the next hidden mystery or doorway to proceed forward. With such a large team, there wasn’t a single point where we felt like we had nothing to do and just constantly was up against the time, which makes sense for the hardest room they’ve got. For people who love a little fright and want the ultimate challenge, Nethercott Manor is the ultimate escape room.
