Enter a world of experiences with Liseberg, one of the most beloved amusement parks in Europe. Found over in Sweden in the town of Gothenburg, Liseberg is known for a great selection of rides, events and other entertainment. With the park opening back in 1923, they have a whole history of providing top quality experiences for all ages, regardless of when you visit. Focusing mainly on three seasons, they cover the summer, Halloween and winter seasons, with plenty to see & do throughout these times.
Getting to Liseberg is pretty simple from the UK. Catching a flight from many UK airports straight to Gothenburg. Depending on the time of booking, you can get some pretty cheap flights most times of the year with multiple different options and airlines. From the airport, you can get a local bus service using companies like flygbussarna straight to the entrance of Liseberg. This is quick & convenient with the service running frequently.
When at Liseberg itself, you have the option for how long you wish to stay and visit. Most people spend multiple days at the park. There is an onsite hotel known as Grand Curiosa which provides reasonable costings and different options to stay at the park itself.
In our visit in early September, a large group of us attended for a birthday gathering which included catching the end of the summer season of Liseberg. We also got to experience the separate ticketed evening event known as Klubb Karusell and we also stayed in some of the best rooms in the Grand Curiosa hotel.
See our thoughts below…
Starting with our day visit to Liseberg itself, we enjoyed it on a very sunny Sunday in early September, with the weather being above 25 degrees. This allowed us to enjoy all of the water rides to keep cool and our first ride was the log flume, a perfect start. Outside of this, there was plenty of thrilling rides to keep us busy, from Helix which is a thrilling double launched coaster with 4 inversions and a very picturesque landscape. Other top rollercoasters here are Balder, a wooden coaster with plenty of airtime moments, Valkyria which is Europe’s longest dive coaster and the newest to the park is Luna, a family boomerang coaster which allows you to enjoy track forwards & backwards!
There is always plenty to do to keep busy at Liseberg, with family dark rides, other filler thrilling attractions and game stalls. There is even a haunted house open during selected hours which is pretty spooky. We had time to enjoy all of these rides and experiences with the queues being at a fair level given it being a hot day in the summer season.
Entry into Liseberg can be bought to just enjoy the park itself but different ticketing options will allow you to enjoy just the games or rides if you prefer. This means groups can go with not everybody having to pay a high price if they are not interested in the rides for example. Prices vary depending on the season so it is always best to check directly prior to visiting, with purchasing online in advance being the cheapest option.
Heading onto the night time event which during our stay was Klubb Karusell. This is an open air nightclub inside the park between the hours of 9pm – 1am. With guest DJ’s performing, selected rides open, free games open and much more, this was the ultimate party. This ran over two weekends and proved to be very popular, with our evening being sold out.
Entry into the event was through a different entrance for the park and this was a short walk from the hotel. After a security check and ticket scan, we were in the event shortly after 9pm with minimal waiting. We chose to head to the rides first and managed to have multiple night rides on Balder, Loke and Valkyria with minimal waiting time. The queues did get a little lengthy towards the middle of the event but if you got there at the start, you would only be waiting 10-15 minutes. The rapids were also open and in the dark and party music playing, it gives a much more upbeat experience and we all had such a laugh.
After all the rides, we treated ourselves to many drinks at the different bars. From a Redbull bar, a Heineken bar and even an alcoholic slushy stand, they have you covered whatever you wanted. The prices were fair for Sweden which is usually pretty pricey for alcohol. From here, we enjoyed the rest of the night on the dancefloor with the DJ playing a mixture of music. They had special light up dancers in the crowd and walking around and everybody was having a fantastic time with no trouble or problems seen anywhere. We’d highly recommend Klubb Karusell if you’re after a theme park after hours with rides and drinks!
The Grand Curiosa Hotel is the brand new hotel to Liseberg with it opening only last year in 2023. Featuring an adventure style theme, here all ages can find something to keep them busy. Kids have a world of entertainment from a carousel to ride, a slide and plenty of arts and crafts. Whilst adults can relax on the rooftop bar or enjoy a sweet treat in the cafe below.
Rooms at the hotel are priced with a basic and premium price bracket, depending on what you are after. We bought the premium rooms with these sleeping up to 4 adults inside, with a large double bed and a bunk bed which was super roomy. Some of these rooms give a park view and ours did not disappoint with a view of the log flume and Valkyria coaster!
With our busy schedule, we did manage to quickly catch a drink on the rooftop bar which offered amazing views of the surrounding area and park. There was plenty of seating and it had a nice relaxed vibe, perfect for when the weather is warm for sure.
Before we checked out, we had our breakfast which was at the top floor restaurant and it is self served. With your classic continental and hot food, they had everything you wanted in a real nice setting. This was very much enjoyed after our late night enjoying the party at the park.
Prices do vary and are best checked directly with Liseberg.

As you can see, Liseberg has a lot going on and that was towards the end of the summer season. Outside of our visit, they have a Halloween season about to start which has late opening hours and scare mazes added, with the Christmas and winter season starting shortly after that. With a fantastic ride lineup and a great hotel to stay in, you can never really be dissatisfied with your visit to Liseberg, as you can always find something to do.
Our visit was partly helped by the fantastic team at Liseberg, offering us some free tickets and discount in the hotel in return for our content and review. Whilst we appreciate working with them, this does not change our thoughts or opinions stated in this review.
We had such an amazing time during our short visit and for a birthday party, our large group of around 16 people had the best time as you can see. We recommend if you want to see more of Liseberg, Grand Curiosa Hotel or the Klubb Karusell event, to check out our TikTok for a little more detail.
