The award winning event known as Hallowscream at York Maze is back in 2024 to reign terror and unleash entertainment for those who are brave enough to visit. Home to 5 scare houses plus a large central entertainment hub, Hallowscream promises a terrifying night out. The event includes everything you would need for a night of scares, from a roaming street team, food & drink, live stage shows, music and more, mostly undercover, meaning whatever the weather, you are good to go. New for 2024, you also have a brand new scare attraction called Rednecks Revenge which joins 4 other favourites, including the award winning Necropolis.
Hallowscream is an event that sells out year upon year, so you are best to get your tickets as early as possible. All can be done directly via the official website. Tickets start from around £30, which gives you entry into the event and mazes. You can buy a fastrack package, unlimited fastrack and even a mega bundle. All attractions are unlimited regardless of your ticket type, with the start and end of the night being the most quiet, so make use of that if you do choose to go standard. They are open selected nights from the 11th October through to the 2nd November. The event usually runs from 6:30pm but they do have different intake times, and continues on till around 10:30pm when the queue lines start to shut.

Our First thoughts…
Hallowscream at York Maze is super popular and this could be seen from the moment you get close to the event, with a long queue for entry. If you have a fastrack or VIP package, you were able to take a seperate queue which was much quicker and we would highly recommend unless you are turning up later. The street team were out in full force, with Corny & Lil Dribble with their chainsaws, getting up and close, creating comedic moments as well as some big scares even before you step inside the event grounds.
When inside, the event has two halves. At the far end, they have a food court with funfair rides, whilst the other side is the central entertainment hub with all of the 5 mazes inside. The stage had so much entertainment on, from fire acts to dancers performing every 10 minutes, meaning you are never waiting long to see some kind of show. They have a smaller stage at the other end of the inside area, with small platforms dotted throughout, meaning if your in a queue or walking away from the stage, you still get the unreal atmosphere and entertainment from what is going on.
The whole atmosphere was lively and we had so much interaction from the street team. They have created a 360 degrees hub of entertainment and no event compares to them on this. They have photo opportunities with the actors and lots of just Instagram photo spots also, meaning you are guaranteed to get a spooky photo of your group.

Rednecks Revenge – Scare Score: 85%

The new maze for 2024 is Rednecks Revenge, a clan of Rednecks who are out to get you in a comical and crazy attraction. The maze starts with you meeting some of the family as you wander through a number of themed sets & scenes. The further you get through, the intensity picks up and the actors become a lot more feral, creating some terrifying moments. Whilst scary, there is plenty of enjoyable and laughable moments, as they have the ability to create a false safe environment before erupting with energy. Some of our favourite moments have to be the outdoor maze section, where you have no idea where you are going as you’re chased around by the not so friendly rednecks, plus they have some very wet effects, which caught us out time & time again. For a new maze, this really was super strong providing a great balance in theming, screams & laughs.
The Singularity – Scare Score: 76%

The Singularity is a futuristic and frightening attraction, which takes you into the lab of an inventor and become a human test subject. With a fantastic introduction, you become a rejected test subject and witness a mass of scenes of destruction & chaos. We found this absolutely terrifying as so many of the characters were blended into the sets, so we couldn’t tell they were actually actors. With lots of special effects including smoke filled rooms and loud bangs, there is more than your usual scares found within. Our favourite moment had to be towards the end as it has a great new ending which caught us off guard and for guests who have been before, may recognise it from a past maze.
Corny’s Cornevil – Scare Score: 74%

The classic clown maze is back, that is Corny’s Cornevil, which is one of the main characters at Hallowscream. You step into a funhouse and have more laughs over anything else. Whilst still a scare maze, we had many light hearted scares and mockery, more than big jump out scare moments. We love all of the fun house elements, from a mirror maze, shrinking rooms, a gravity defying room. The list is endless. The actors had a strong game and provided so many funny moments whilst being creepy.
Necropolis – Scare Score: 74%
Theming 100% | Storyline 60% | Screams 70% | Laughs 65% | Actors 75%
Necropolis is an immersive Egyptian adventure which you step inside the tomb of the cursed and come face to face with the horrors. Runner up of our award for best themed maze in 2023 and is one of the newer mazes, Necropolis is truly a highly detailed masterpiece. Every set makes you feel like you have stepped back in time, with set pieces being placed up high, in the walls and essentially all around. The actors helped create a very eerie story, from mummies to Egyptian warriors, they did come out fast and hide within the walls. We love this newer generation of scare mazes being so detailed so make sure you check this one out.
The Flesh Pot – Scare Score: 67%

The Flesh Pot is a gruesome attraction which sees you enter into a lair of a slaughterhouse, where the grotesque family are waiting for you. With moments of pure comedy such as the introduction, you then enter into the dark corridors and everything gets a little more scary. With a heavy metal backing track as you walk around, this grows anticaption and the fear that is to come. The maze has a decent length to it and our favourite is when it comes to the ending, with a classic chainsaw finish which sends chills up your spine.
Overall, Hallowscream allowed us to scream the night away with 5 chilling mazes, a party atmosphere and some incredible street theatre & shows. Your time goes so quickly when here and you can easily be consumed by the additional entertainment and forget all about the mazes. Thankfully we love the mazes and manage to get on everything twice with the RIP ticket. Whilst the main queues were busy, there was plenty of entertainment for the best part of the queues, so even if waiting around it isn’t too bad. We loved the new maze Rednecks Revenge, as it included lots of unseen water effects which were hilarious, plus the team inside were simply fantastic.
