This October fear is reborn with a brand new event known as SCREAMS! Located at Thornton Hall Country Park, the ultimate Halloween night out has been created from scratch with 3 unique live scare attractions. The event is based in the Lancashire and Yorkshire border and is home in the day to the family friendly farm attraction, it now turns very sinister at night with a whole new event which is ready to shake you up.
As a brand new event, they have created 3 mazes on their opening year in a dedicated space for Halloween within the adventure park. This year you can experience Jinxed, Malkin Manor and Blackmarket. With a carnival inspired attraction, a haunted house and then a first of it’s kind experience, it certainly caught our eye to check them out.
Outside of the scares, they of course have you covered with a food and drink offering, and a covered & warm bar space. They have a roaming street team to keep you occupied in the queues and whilst roaming the event, and plenty of fires, lights and stage shows. Everything you expect from a scare event, they have it ticked off.
For their opening year, they are open for 7 nights which started on October 18th and runs through to Halloween night itself on selected evenings. SCREAMS opens each night at 6:30pm and queue lines close at 9:30pm, with the event finishing up about 10pm. Ticket prices start from £20, with offers being available depending on when you buy a ticket.
Additionally, they run an a friendly version of the event called SPOOKS, which can be found during the day. This event uses some of the mazes in more of a show setting to appeal for a younger audience.

Our First thoughts…
We’ve been very fortunate to speak to some of creators and masterminds behind SCREAMS since earlier this year and we’ve been very excited to see what they have created. With the lineup online looking very appealing, we were ready for opening night. Upon arriving, we entered into the park and came face to face with some of the street team straight away. Whilst this was more of a friendly introduction, it was definitely a little twisted. As we made our way up into the event area itself, passing through a are you brave enough sign with fire effects blasting above, we had the choice of which scare attraction to tackle first.
We also managed to pop into the bar space to grab a few drinks and to see what the entertainment was like. They had two creepy characters singing songs and it was a nice backdrop setting, not too loud or quiet. Outside the shows, they had music playing to keep an atmosphere. They had a fully licensed bar with their own SCREAM cups, which was fun to see. We even tried one of their cocktails which was strong, full of sweets and very delicious. They had a food truck for those who get peckish but we didn’t try anything on our night, it went too quick!

Malkin Manor – Scare Score: 84%

This is your classic haunted house but with a twist. Lose yourself in this possessed mansion as you join the infamous Haunt Hackers as you feature in their Livestream to see if you can spot any ghosts or paranormal activity. This attraction starts even before you step inside the house, with all sorts of spooky phenomena’s happening. This haunting house was super clever, as it felt like a literal maze, with dead ends and clever trickery to make you believe you were seeing things. The team did a great job at keeping everything eerie and ghostly and it was actually an incredible attraction. A highlight of the night for sure.
JINXED – Scare Score: 68%

This maze is a carnival themed and grotesque clown hideout, filled with bright colours, trippy walkways and of course, chaotic clowns. This cursed festival provided a fun yet terrifying time with a highly detailed introduction and storyline. As you got deeper inside their lair, they did appear from the darkness and you were never safe. With some cool props and set pieces, it provided a different take to your usual clown attraction and it was enjoyed with a cast who made us laugh but also scream!
Blackmarket – Scare Score: 80%

Blackmarket is certainly a unique attraction as it’s unlike anything else in the UK! As you enter in small groups into a rave, the venue is more sinister than you could imagine with it being an old meat processing unit. You get separated, electrocuted, forcibly moved and that’s not even half of it. You get hooded, you may be asked to crawl and they have lots of horrifying effects hiding around every corner. Due to the nature of the maze, you do have to be 16+ and we can see why, as everybody who was leaving the maze was left with a shocked and disturbed face of horror. As Blackmarket provides a top fright, the cast really go an extra mile to push the boundaries of fear and make sure you leave the only way they know, screaming!
Overall, for a new event, they provided a solid opening year with unique mazes, terrifying scares and an enjoyable entertainment hub. We couldn’t praise them any more for the mazes as each one of them gave a different level of scares but also how unique they were. With Jinxed being a fun take on a carnival clown attraction, to Malkin Manor being a ghost story but on another level with its dead ends, or Blackmarket with it being a insane rave, but by being alone and having some unique features, its hard to compare it to anything else in the UK!
SCREAMS is only open for a limited run so we highly recommend you check them out before it’s too late in 2024.
