Darkfield at the Ditch Review

Darkfield at the Ditch

DARKFIELD brings its renowned immersive audio experiences to The Ditch at Shoreditch Town Hall this April, a stop on their 2025 tour. Known for plunging audiences into complete darkness with binaural audio, striking sets, and compelling narratives, DARKFIELD creates truly transformative experiences. Typically, guests enter themed shipping containers, wear headphones, and are transported into a 20-30 minute audio-driven world.

At The Ditch, DARKFIELD offers a limited run until April 12th (which has now been extended to the 17th April), featuring four distinct experiences. Located in central London, beneath Shoreditch Town Hall, the venue is easily accessible via tube, bus, or taxi.

Ticket prices vary, with the flagship experience, ARCADE, priced at £14 per person. The other three experiences, VISITORS, EXTERNAL, and DOUBLE, are available for £8 each, or £6 when booked alongside ARCADE. Shows run daily, with weekday performances starting at 5 PM and Saturday shows from midday.

The Ditch venue also features a bar and a pinball arcade, providing a relaxed space for pre- and post-experience socializing.

Our Experience

During our visit, we experienced three of DARKFIELD’s captivating offerings. We began with ETERNAL, a chilling exploration of eternal life’s potential cost. Guests lie on beds in a dimly lit room, immersing themselves in a narrative featuring a vampire-like character. Originally a DARKFIELD radio experience, its adaptation to The Ditch’s setting was profoundly unsettling. We also experienced DOUBLE, which delves into the Capgras delusion, where a loved one is believed to be replaced by a malicious replica. This thought-provoking narrative required considerable reflection.

The headline attraction, ARCADE, offers a “choose your own adventure” experience with an 80s arcade aesthetic. Standing before retro arcade machines, participants use a single button for “yes” responses, with a one-second window for decisive action. This interactive element enhanced engagement, and our differing outcomes highlighted the experience’s variability. The inclusion of “lives,” which could be lost through incorrect choices, added a compelling layer of tension.

Notably, this marked DARKFIELD’s first foray into staging experiences outside their signature shipping containers. The Ditch’s eerie ambiance amplified the atmosphere. DARKFIELD’s mastery of detailed storytelling, high-quality audio, and innovative engagement, as exemplified by ARCADE, was evident throughout. Tickets are best purchased online, and tour dates can be found on their website.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the DARKFIELD team for their press preview invitation and complimentary access to these three compelling shows.
