Insomnia returns this year with some minor updates but remains largely unchanged. Following the story of a little girl haunted by the CrackerJack monster, you step directly inside her nightmare.

The story is highly noticeable and clearly set from the moment you step inside, beginning with a meeting with the girl and her mother before she goes to bed, and culminating in your first glimpse of the monster. The narrative continues as you proceed, featuring many different scenes where the terrifying CrackerJack lurks.

The theming is a true standout here, with detailed sets like the Victorian pub, the trippy dentist’s office, and the haunting garden, all creating strong visual points.

However, the maze’s flow was weak as we frequently bunched up with other groups. This may have been caused by a few disorienting scenes that made the route forward difficult to find or move through efficiently.

The new maze for 2025 is Mutation Damnation, taking over and fully utilizing the event’s cornfield space.

The experience starts with a well-themed introduction scene that sets the story. You meet the crop caretakers, but it quickly becomes clear that something is wrong as they are glitching out. After such a bright introduction, it’s not long before you enter the darkness and end up deep in the crop.

The concept works very well, embedding a clear story and giving you a strong reason for entering the crop—specifically, to find out what is making people act so strangely.

While the maze is long, the flow worked exceptionally well, and we got through at a good pace without catching up to any other groups, which is always a great sign. However, the screams weren’t as strong as we would have liked; the route was often too well-lit, allowing us to see most of the scares before they happened.

Area 52 is an upcharge add-on experience that is included with some higher-tier ticket types. This is a paintball attraction that sees guests load onto a trailer and move across several scenes, shooting to survive and protect the world from a zombie invasion.

The story, delivered in the introduction container, is simple yet clear and very detailed, which we loved. The flow is great; because of how the experience is built, you keep moving smoothly through all the zones and won’t catch up with another group.

The screams are limited, as the zombies don’t get close enough to break your barrier of safety. While this makes the experience less terrifying, it’s still something genuinely different and provides a bit of extra fun. The main downsides are that the initial upcharge price is high, and extra ammunition is also expensive.
