Pompeii The Immersive Exhibition London Review ()

Travel back over 2,000 years with the help of VR as you step into the immersive experience known as The Last Days of Pompeii: The Immersive Exhibition! Wander ancient Roman streets, come face-to-face with gladiators, and examine expertly replicated artefacts. This experience features 360-degree cinematic rooms, a Metaverse arena, Virtual Reality, and so much more.

The exhibition is on a limited 16-week run that began in November 2025. Its home during its stay in London is the ExCeL Waterfront. It is open daily, with adult tickets starting at £24. This price includes at least 90 minutes inside multiple rooms and interactive displays related to Pompeii. While all ages are welcome, the experience is recommended for ages 5+ due to the nature of the activities.

While this review follows our visit to the London exhibition, you can find this experience all across Europe. It is currently running in Brussels and Frankfurt, and has previously visited Berlin and Vienna, with future locations pending. Keep an eye out for a location closer to you if you are unable to make it to London!

Similar experiences have become widely popular recently, such as The Legend of the Titanic and Horizon of Khufu, both of which have appeared in London over the last few years. Each offers something unique, but they all share the same goal: bringing history to life through modern technology.

We visited on a weekday morning, knowing it would be less busy. The first part of the exhibition featured a large room filled with signage and wallboards providing factual information on Pompeii, including its history and the events leading up to the eruption. There were replicas of artefacts on display, allowing you to see exactly what they looked like in person rather than just via an image.

Next, we entered the main 360-degree projection room. It features a long video that plays on a loop, telling the story of Pompeii. You are welcome to watch the entire 30-minute presentation, or you can watch as much as you like and move on at any point. The graphics on the walls and floor are incredibly impressive, truly immersing you in a range of different settings.

The more futuristic elements included using Virtual Reality headsets to see through the eyes of a gladiator during a Colosseum fight and taking a chariot ride. There was also the Metaverse experience, where you wear a headset and walk around a room, exploring the virtual world more freely. These different variations keep the experience fresh and interesting, ensuring you stay engaged with the history and facts being presented.

Visiting in the morning definitely had its perks, as there was no wait for any of the virtual reality experiences. It also meant we could wander freely and take our time without having to wait in lines for prime spots to read the wallboards or take photos. We imagine that during peak slots, there could be short waits for certain elements, so it is worth considering an earlier or later time to avoid the crowds.

Toward the end of the experience, you can take a photo that transforms you back in time—a fun bit of memorabilia and a lighthearted way to end the visit. There is also a shop for souvenirs, as well as the chance to purchase any official photos taken throughout the exhibition.

Our time flew by, and it took us around 90 minutes to enjoy the full experience, even while it was quiet. It even inspired us to book a trip to see Pompeii in person! A huge thank you to the team at Mance Communications for arranging our visit, which was complimentary in return for our honest review and video content. Make sure you pay them a visit during your next trip to London!
