The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy Live Show Review ()

Get ready for a cosmic adventure and unexpected surprises with The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy live immersive experience! Hosted at Riverside Studios in London, you’ll come face to face with Arthur Dent, Zaphod, Beeblebrox, Fenchurch, and of course one very depressed robot. Follow the narrative through various rooms as the cast brings this legendary story to life using special effects, music, and audience interaction to explore life, the universe, and everything.

The production showcases a wealth of British talent, featuring 14 live actors who help immerse you in the story. Riverside Studios the well known filming location for Live at the Apollo serves as the venue for the duration of the run. Located near Hammersmith tube station, it is a short, easy walk with multiple transport links nearby. The show lasts approximately 90 minutes with no interval, and snacks and drinks are available at various stops within the experience to keep you fueled as you travel through the galaxy. The venue also features a lobby bar for food and drinks if you arrive early or wish to linger afterward.

Tickets are available in two tiers, Standard and VIP. While Standard provides admission to the show, the VIP ticket includes priority entry, reserved seating in selected scenes, a complimentary drink, and a collectible deck of cards. Prices range from £42 to £77, so it is worth checking your preferred date and time on the official website. Showings run six days a week, with multiple slots from the afternoon through the evening.

Our experience began in a bar setting, which we quickly realized was a farewell party for Arthur Dent. While we waited for the rest of the audience to arrive, characters began mingling with us, filling us in on the drama and recommending drinks. This offered a perfect blend of a gradual entry and intimate moments with the cast. As we had the VIP package, we were able to claim our complimentary drink here which we highly recommend doing! The party soon kicked off with a sing and dance off, before the “end of the world” timer began its countdown…

From there, we were ushered onto a ship for safety, where we had to work together to solve a small puzzle. After being transported to another planet, we entered a strange new world where we could roam freely to meet the locals and learn about their way of life. This freedom to engage as much or as little as you like is true to the immersive concept; while it can feel a little busy and chaotic, the crowd really got into the swing of things.

The experience concluded with a dramatic musical number that wrapped up the story—and you’ll be glad to know they managed to save Earth! Even though we hadn’t followed the story previously, we found that no prior knowledge is required, as the narrative unfolds clearly right in front of you.

Some of our favorite moments involved the fun cocktails and themed snacks available at various points, which truly enhanced the immersion. Moving from a bar setting to an entirely new planet is a lot to take on, but the production team transitions the audience between scenes seamlessly. We loved that it remains a high quality theater show complete with music, singing, and great acting—while using the ability to roam freely to bring the story into the 21st century.

There are a few key points to keep in mind: the bar in the opening scene closes as soon as the show begins, so arrive early and be quick! Additionally, different bars throughout the experience serve different drinks and snacks, so if you see something you like, don’t hold off. If you are new to immersive theater, don’t worry; if you follow the crowd and the cast’s subtle cues, it is always very clear where you should be and what you should be doing.

Overall, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy featured a fantastic team and a surreal cast who did everything to bring the universe to life. Nothing felt missed, and at 90 minutes, it felt like the perfect amount of time to enjoy the story without overstaying its welcome. Fans will love the “Easter eggs,” while new guests have plenty to learn and enjoy.

A huge thank you to the team for inviting us on this adventure and providing complimentary VIP tickets in return for our review and coverage. The run ends in February, so make sure you grab your tickets before it’s too late!
