Spooky World 2026 Review

Spooky World Review ()

INTRODUCTION

Spooky World returns for 2026 and this time, it is their 20th anniversary. Starting back in 2006, the event has continued to grow and draw in the crowds, and for this year we get to see 7 attractions ready for guests to be terrified within. Outside of the attractions, you can find a brand new entertainment hub with fire-based stunts, a fairground with a handful of rides, and a bar and food options can also be found.

The event has grown over the last 20 years, and with its anniversary they continue to show that they are ever adapting to audience demands and updating their quality both inside and outside of the attractions.

You can find Spooky World in Warrington, at Apple Jacks County Park. They opened on Saturday 3rd October and run on selected nights until the 1st November. Tickets start from £42 this October, which gives you one go on each maze. Extra entries for the mazes can be purchased on the night if you wish to redo your favourites. With lots to cover and see, we joined them on their opening evening to get a first look inside Spooky World 2026.

THE OVERALL EVENT…

WOO – Value for Money | WOO – Entertainment | BOO – Operations

Spooky World opened on our evening promptly at 6:30pm, where you can go straight into the attractions, grab a drink or come face to face with the roaming characters straight away. It wasn’t too busy at this time, with a short security queue and no ticket queue. You get given a card as you enter which gives you one access to each maze. We had fast track, however there were no queues throughout our time at the event. The roaming characters were all at the entrance, which ranged from a fire performer, clowns, cheerleaders and other disturbing creatures.

From 8pm each evening, the entertainment kicks off in the new entertainment hub, which was great to see them invest in. This year, they have shows every 20 minutes on the stage, where they have talented performers doing a range of acts, from acrobatics to fire eating to other devilish stunts. We only managed to catch one of the shows at the start, but we can confirm it was very entertaining and the crowd were loving every minute.

The operations across the event needed to be a little better. Whilst our event was pretty quiet, there were some issues inside the queue lines which made it confusing for the everyday guest, plus how long we were waiting for the Tractor ride was quite lengthy, as it seemed they only had one going. We hope this was just opening night struggles and that throughout the season this will get better.

Spooky World is great value for money, from the ticket price to the cost of food and drink. With it having 7 attractions, an evening of entertainment, a small fairground and other small elements, it was worth every penny. The bar is just canned and bottled offerings, but the prices are very reasonable, with the food being your classic takeaway options of burger, hotdog, chicken nuggets etc.

The Haunted House

WOO – Theming

The Haunted House has a great facade out front, which was a welcome change to the usual offerings on the outside of the event’s attractions. Inside, there are plenty of different scenes to make a haunted house, and it felt very different to our previous visit a few years back, with general upgrades throughout. The sets felt more layered this time, giving the maze a fresher, more polished feel as you moved from room to room.

BOO – Concept

The concept of a haunted house is very traditional and typical for a Halloween event. There isn’t anything original as such here, although we appreciate that they have this as part of the lineup and continue to grow the maze as a whole.

WOO – Actor Performance

The actors inside really gave it their all, with some of them being creepy and others being very forceful and intense, providing the full range of scares and acting skills. You will find plenty of the tormenting inhabitants inside, and they did get scares from all sides of the group. The variety in their approach kept us guessing, with the quiet, lurking scares mixing well with the more aggressive, in-your-face moments.

The Haunted Hayride

WOO – Enjoyment

The Haunted Hayride was very much enjoyed during our ride on the back of the tractor. You go through many different scenes and get to see a lot of different sets, with it lasting a decent amount of time too. It had a great flow to it, with new scenes and set pieces constantly appearing along the route, so there was always something to look at and enjoy.

BOO – Screams

Unfortunately, The Haunted Hayride does lack on the scary front. The reason for that is you are pretty protected on the back of this ride, with the gate sealed shut. Therefore, the actors can’t get on, and the scares are limited to the outside compared to other similar attractions of its type. The format itself keeps you at arm’s length from the real scares, which is a shame given how much effort has gone into the rest of the experience.

WOO – Lighting & SFX

There are plenty of great lighting and SFX moments you experience on your journey, from fire, foam, bubbles, chainsaws, air blasts and so much more. They have a light tunnel which was super long, and overall they have ticked off many effects that you can experience whilst outside and on the move, which is impressive. The sheer variety of effects packed into the route was a highlight, making every stretch of the journey feel different.

Deadman’s Creek

WOO – Costume & Makeup

Deadman’s Creek is a dark attraction, and therefore you don’t get to see much inside. With a few scenes being more dimly lit than pitch black, it allowed you to see some of the creatures inside, and this added to the fear and how they came across in their costumes. They may have been simple or in detail, but with the minimal light it was hard to tell. What we do know is that they came across well, with the glimpses we caught under the low light making them feel even more unsettling.

BOO – Theming

As a dark attraction which requires you to follow a rope, it did mean there was very little we could see, and meant the theming could take a backseat as such. There was some theming inside which we could just make out, but we wished we could have had more of these dimly lit scenes to appreciate what could have been inside to build on the attraction. A few more of those lit moments would have let the set design shine and given the maze more depth.

WOO – Screams

The one benefit a pitch black maze has is the element of surprise, and they managed to get us scared time and time again. With us not knowing where they were at any point, it got us. The suspense built when there were no actors, trying to follow the rope and find the right route, hearing the screams from others inside. It all built that tension you want from a dark maze, and the payoff when the scares landed made them hit even harder.

The Institute

WOO – Actor Performance

The Institute has one of the best casts inside, as the team really give that chaotic energy from start to end. They were intense, they were quick, and they fit well with that prison-made world they are trying to portray. Their energy never dropped, and every encounter felt charged, with the cast feeding off the chaos to keep the pressure on throughout.

BOO – Theming

The theming inside here was a little sparse, being fitted out with prison bars and some prison beds for the most part of the attraction. It worked, but it would have been nice to see more interesting props and designs. A few extra set pieces or details would have helped sell the story and given the maze more atmosphere to match the cast’s energy.

WOO – Actor Utilisation

How this attraction is set out means the actors can cover quite a large area, and also cover the part next to them. With them being able to reach through the bars, dive across the beds and just roam up and down their stretch, it gave a very good coverage for the cast inside. This setup made the maze feel bigger and more relentless, with no real safe spots as the actors worked every angle of their stretch.

Carnevil

WOO – Actor Performance

Carnevil is your typical fun clown maze, and that allowed for some great fun performances from the clowns here. Some were creepy with songs, others were happy to trick you, and overall they just managed to fit the atmosphere of a creepy clown maze. The mix of playful and sinister kept the tone shifting, which made the clowns feel unpredictable and added to the fun.

BOO – Concept

Carnevil isn’t anything unique. It is your typical clown maze, being a bit cheeky and light-hearted, with some scares inside. For those who hate clowns or have a phobia of them, this will be right up their street.

WOO – Enjoyment

We very much enjoyed our run through and believe others will too. With there being a range of scares, scenes and scary moments, you can’t really go wrong inside Carnevil! It struck a nice balance between fun and fear, making it an easy one to recommend whatever your scare tolerance.

The Slaughter House

WOO – Screams

The Slaughter House is on its final year at Spooky World, and it seems they have managed to keep the scares going one last time. The hillbillies inside were everywhere, with chainsaws, with microphones and just being up close. Another intense attraction for scares for 2026. They clearly wanted to send it off with a bang, and the relentless energy inside made it feel like a proper farewell.

BOO – Concept

This is another concept which is pretty simple. From the name to what the attraction is, nothing special, nothing unique. We would love some more originality inside, and hopefully whatever replaces this will bring just that. It did the job, but it never really pushed beyond the familiar hillbilly horror formula.

WOO – Actor Performance

Another solid cast inside The Slaughter House, with the introduction character providing a great interactive moment to set the scene and the bar for the rest of the team. Each member was able to interact well together and with the group, providing an immersive setting for this theme. The teamwork showed throughout, with the cast playing off each other to keep the pressure on the group from start to finish.

Channel Zero

WOO – Concept

Channel Zero is brand new for us since our last visit, and the concept of Channel Zero is exactly what we wanted to see. From having the dancers outside the maze and music, to the use of vampires in a dance setting. Whilst there are other similar attractions, it is the right next step for Spooky World. It felt fresh for the event, bringing a different flavour of horror that stood out from the rest of the lineup.

BOO – Storytelling

Unfortunately, with a unique concept they have lost the story in this maze. There was nothing really given to us before or during the maze, and it just made it more simple. We would love some set scene moments in here instead of just pure chaos from start to end. Even a short introduction or a few narrative beats along the way would have given the vampires and the party setting more purpose.

WOO – Audio

We would say Channel Zero is the best attraction at Spooky World in terms of audio. Whilst outside the maze it only had one song on loop, and inside the song was the same, it just provided another layer to the mazes we weren’t used to at Spooky World, and hopefully will improve in future mazes. Fancy upbeat party music whilst being scared by vampires? Then you have found your attraction! The contrast between the party soundtrack and the vampire scares was a brilliant touch.

As you can see, Spooky World has continued to grow and improve since our last visit in 2024. With new mazes, upgrades to the overall entertainment lineup and infrastructure, on top of improving from just the bland yellow maze logos, they are learning, adapting and becoming more immersive. Spooky World does still feel rough around the edges, but events like this still give plenty of enjoyment, interactions and scares that you don’t get from a well-polished event. For their 20th anniversary, it is well worth visiting and enjoying the celebrations, shows and of course, the Halloween goodness that comes with a scream park.

A huge thank you to the team at Spooky World for working with us and inviting us to their opening night. They did provide us with complimentary fast track tickets, and in return we have provided our honest feedback in this review, ratings and content.

Unfortunately, we were unable to film inside the mazes this year, and the insides are kept a secret unless you visit yourself.

Tickets are still available for the rest of October 2026 through their website, and if you fancy seeing more of the entertainment and outside of the mazes, make sure you check out our TikTok! We look forward to seeing how the next 20 years of Spooky World goes.
