3 November 2025
INTRODUCTION
After Dark Scream Park is the latest and newest scream park to make its entrance in Merthyr, Wales. This ambitious new event promised three mazes, a fire and light show, fire performers, food, drink, and more, all within a typical scream park setup.
The inaugural lineup featured three brand-new mazes—Ghost Track, Dr Malice, and Backwoods Abattoir—alongside Luminaria, an immersive fire and light show.
The event was located at Trago Mills, a shopping center in Merthyr (not far from Cardiff), offering ample parking and space. It was scheduled for a limited run of three dates between October 29th and 31st, opening from 5:30 PM to approximately 10:30 PM. Tickets started from £22.50.
Unfortunately, the event did not live up to the high expectations it set and even had an extra scheduled date (November 1st) cancelled. Despite this, we took a detailed look during our visit and spoke with the creators behind the event to see what promise the park holds for the future.

THE OVERALL EVENT…
WOO – Uniqueness | WOO – Location | BOO – Side Shows
Our journey with After Dark Scream Park began a few years ago on social media. The park had been teasing its concept and searching for a home for its new event, making bold claims like having “over 100 actors” and being “Wales’ Scariest Scream Park.” It certainly seemed poised for success.
Unfortunately, the feedback from the opening night was overwhelmingly poor, with the event falling severely short of the promised experience. We caught up with the owners the following day and learned the unfortunate truth: the team was genuinely let down on multiple fronts. This included funfair operators pulling out with minimal notice, storm weather damaging two of the attractions, and vital equipment arriving late. All of these elements had a cascading impact on the entire event.
Our visit was on their second night of operation, and it was clear the team had done their absolute best to address issues and deliver the best possible experience. We received our wristband with no queues upon entry and found the hub area, which was small but featured a few food vans, a sheltered bar with a DJ, and a fire performer.
We were highly excited for the Luminaria show, but due to another technical error, the main show could not run as expected, which was a real shame as the setup looked promising. However, the team did run the show’s audio and had fire performers, with someone else manually running the lights in the background, attempting to offer something rather than nothing.
While the final offering was not as promised, it’s important to note that the team and cast did everything they could to keep the event running under immense pressure.

Ultimately, After Dark Scream Park did fail to deliver what looked to be one of the best new events for 2025. However, they still managed to provide a fun night out with at least one good maze (Backwoods Abattoir) and an enjoyable atmosphere fueled by great music from the DJ.
It is a huge shame that the ambitious ideas that were built and designed didn’t come to life due to the unfortunate, unpredictable events that unfolded right before the opening.
We commend the team and cast for pushing through the three event dates and genuinely trying to make it work and improve each night. We hope they have learned valuable lessons from this challenging debut if they choose to bring the event back in the future.
A huge thank you to the team for inviting us to After Dark Scream Park. They provided us with complimentary entry in return for our ratings and review. We also appreciate the creators sharing their vision and context with us, and all opinions in this review are based entirely on our own experience.
