Alien Encounter at Puzzalogical Escape Rooms Review

23 June 2024

Alien Encounter Title

Can you survive the Alien Encounter at Puzzalogical Escape Rooms? The newest escape adventure has now opened, offering a space themed experience which you are not alone, as you board the USS Ripley to try & make it home. The question is, how will it end for you and your team with this open ended mission?

Puzzalogical Escape Rooms opened in August 2020 with two rooms as a new escape room business in the town of Bracknell. Located next to the high street, the owners Debbie & Nathan have put their heart & soul into making some of the best escape rooms you can play in the UK. They have three other rooms which are The Secret of the Vault, Prison Break & Pharaohs Mystery. Each room having a clear distinct theme, a thrilling story and some really cool puzzles.

Alien Encounter is the new room which opened recently in 2024 as the fourth adventure with another completely different theme to what they have already. With the story of you boarding the USS Ripley drifting away from earth, you have been made aware of an alien parasite taking over the ship and now you have to save yourselves and get back home before its too late.

You can book to play this new room over on the website, with it costing anywhere between £28 – £37 per person depending on the number of players. The experience is slightly longer than your usual 60 minute adventure, with this one being 75 minutes. With them being open most days and having lots of weekend and school holidays availability, you will always find a time to take on the latest space mission.

Theming & Storyline – 9/10

Alien Encounter has a great, futuristic ship feel. With it being based on a spaceship, you do feel immersed into space with the lighting & decor. It uses lots of special effects, from built in speakers, lighting sequences, smoke and all sorts of other technology. This is helped with the story prior to going in the room and the constant updates by your guide on the screen. This keeps you updated on the story but equally what you should need to do next.

The room had many layers to it, in that you got to explore the room, find the aliens, fight them off, try & save your crew and that is all before you try & head back home. There is a lot going on and we love that Alien Encounter had these different sections to the game. The biggest and our favourite element to this room is the open ending, which is dependant on how you and your team complete the room. Whilst we can’t go much into this feature without spoiling it, we have not seen it done to this scale & level in any other experience we’ve done and it was one of our favourite endings to an escape room.

With it having a medical area, the spaceship controls and even an escape pod, there is plenty of themed set pieces which all only complement the story and your mission whilst playing.

Puzzles & Flow – 8/10

Alien Encounter had a range of different puzzles, some required skill, some required precision. From shooting the aliens with a blaster to fight them away, to discovering how to self destruct the ship, there was always something to be doing and as a team of 3, we found it pretty challenging. With this being said, we can see it being perfect for groups of 4-6 with the large space and puzzles. Our favourite puzzle was the use of the robotic arm as we had not seen this anywhere else personally. The room had a good flow to it and whilst we did get stumped a handful of times, all the puzzles made sense and would rate it from medium to hard in difficulty rating.

Uniqueness – 9/10

Overall, Alien Encounter is the best room we’ve done at Puzzalogical Escape Rooms. The reason for that is they have taken all of their experiences from the other 3 rooms and combined that into their latest creation to make the best possible adventure. With the story, theming and puzzles all working together to create an immersive environment and keep you interested throughout your whole time with them. Whilst the space story and theme isn’t unique or different, the way they have created this escape room is really different, with the multiple endings just being an added bonus.

There is so much more we would love to say about this room but, we don’t want to spoil all the secrets it has to offer. We can only recommend you go visit when local to the area as you won’t be disappointed. We would love to say thank you to the team for inviting us to play for free, in return for our review and comments.

It is good to note we played it prior to the official opening, meaning that some puzzles and parts may have changed.
