A truly revolutionary aquatic experience has launched, ready to wow crowds in a world of 1001 colors. Blending cutting-edge technology with thrilling waterslides, Aquascope is a waterpark of the future and a truly unique experience within Europe. This new destination features four themed zones and eight exhilarating waterslides.
Aquascope is located in Poitiers, France, and is part of the larger Futuroscope resort, which attracts around 2 million visitors each year. Futuroscope is already known for its one-of-a-kind rides and experiences, so it was no surprise that Aquascope was destined to be unique. The waterpark opened in 2024, covering a 6,000 m² indoor space and guaranteeing both thrills and technological innovation. Highlights include Europe’s first-ever aquatic cinema, a slide with a quadruple spiral, and a whole universe dedicated to younger guests with the park’s mascot, Kraki.
Travel & Ticketing
To reach Aquascope from the UK, you have several popular options, including ferry, Eurotunnel, and flying. For us, flying proved to be the most convenient way to get to Futuroscope. Our travels took us to Nantes airport, from which we drove for about two hours in a hire car. It’s worth noting that the town of Poitiers has its own airport with direct flights from London Stansted, which would be an even easier option.
Tickets to Aquascope are approximately 39 euros per person, and it is essential to book your entrance time in advance. This grants you a 60-minute window to enter the park. Opening times vary depending on the time of year, but they offer extended hours during peak seasons, with the park often open from 9 AM to as late as 10 PM. For the most up-to-date schedule, we recommend checking their official website directly.
Our First Impressions & Awe-Inspiring Immersion
Entering the waterpark was incredibly easy thanks to a barcode-scanned entry system. We were given a wristband upon arrival, which conveniently served as our locker key. The changing rooms themselves are fairly standard, though the showers offered a unique touch with glowing lights in a dimly lit room, setting the tone for the immersive journey ahead. Everything in these areas was clean and tidy, and despite our visit being on a busy Saturday afternoon, we had no trouble finding a changing room or a locker.
We must start with our absolute favorite themed zone in Aquascope, an area so full of new digital technology that it leaves you staring in awe from the moment you step inside. This zone brilliantly blends standard water park features with high-tech projection mapping, vibrant lights, and truly never-before-seen effects that are simply mind-blowing. At its center is Kine Eau, Europe’s first aquatic cinema, which features a 270-degree screen showing a short film multiple times an hour. The experience came with plenty of special splashing effects, making it a fun and interactive show. We also loved Eauculus, an underwater feature where you can dive below the surface and see strange lights and mysterious events unfold on a screen. The Cove is the main hub of this area, cycling through different effects, from calm, serene water scenes to volcanic eruptions. This feature is cleverly linked to the lazy river, with every lap offering a completely new visual experience inside The Cove. The area also includes The Canyon, a misty cave filled with ethereal light and water features. The way all these elements seamlessly blend together is unlike anything we have ever seen at any other waterpark. It is truly groundbreaking, immersive, and we cannot stress enough our love for this area alone!
A Variety of Thrilling Waterslides
Aquascope offers a welcome variety of eight different waterslides to enjoy, each with its own thrill level. The collection is diverse, ranging from fast body slides and single or double ring rides to a mat slide and even a large group slide. Unfortunately, the park’s largest slide, Matrix, was not open during our visit.
The fastest slides include Spiral and Quick. As the name suggests, Quick delivers an 11-meter plunge in just a matter of seconds. Spiral is a true standout; as one of the first slides you see, its unique quadruple spiral layout is unlike anything we have ever seen. You can imagine the speed you pick up as you complete each spiral, and the change of direction at the end is absolutely monstrous!
The rest of the lineup provides a wide range of experiences. Rocket is a capsule drop slide that sends you into a free fall for 120 meters. Sprint is a racing mat slide, challenging you to a race to the bottom. Flash is a tube ride that uses natural light from the outside to create a vibrant, optical illusion effect. Alien is another racing slide that uses rafts, accommodating singles or duos on each side, making it perfect for families or larger groups. The final raft slide is Reflex, a more tame but still fun ride that bends and curves as you descend alone or in pairs.
Practical Tips for Your Visit
For those planning to ride, a key tip is that you must collect your own rafts and mats at the bottom of the slides before heading up the stairs. Fortunately, the park is very well signposted, with slide names clearly displayed in front of each of the two staircases, so we had no problems finding our way. Despite the park being busy, the longest wait we had was around 30 minutes, and the advertised queue times at the bottom of the slides were quite accurate based on our experience.
The Outdoor Area and Children’s Zone
The last section of the park for us to explore was the outdoor area, which has a few cool elements. The Quick slide takes you directly outside and into the Aquadynamic lazy river. While not a groundbreaking ride, it offers plenty of fun laps and is open all year round, come rain or shine. If you’re looking for something more low-key, you can relax in the outdoor silver pool. This area links directly to a beach section with sunbeds and deck chairs, and there’s a grassy area behind it with bean bags for even more comfort. It’s important to note that this outdoor section is only open from May to September, with the exception of the Aquadynamic lazy river, which is available all year.
The final zone is dedicated to children and is packed with interactive elements. From a musical cave to the massive “Big Bath” play tower, there is endless fun for younger visitors. Although we did not venture into this area as it is exclusively for kids, it looked huge and connected seamlessly with the rest of Aquascope, featuring the same clever effects and well-themed models.
Dining Options
Kobalt is currently the only food and beverage outlet inside Aquascope, offering a limited menu. It’s the perfect place to stop by if you’re in the mood for crisps or a light sandwich. While they also sell fizzy drinks and water, we would love to see this menu expand over time to better support longer stays in the waterpark. It is worth noting that they only take card payments and do not have a wristband payment system, which would be more practical.
Our Final Verdict
Aquascope is, without a doubt, one of the best waterparks we have ever been to. While some elements are simple, the blend of technology and water is a modern innovation rarely seen on this scale. Aquascope has executed this concept flawlessly, making it look absolutely fantastic. The projection mapping, the quality, and the overall effects were simply on another level. This park truly opens up a new world of possibilities for waterpark design, and we are certain that many eyes will be on Aquascope to see how it continues to expand and use its technology to immerse guests in a truly unique aquatic world.
A huge thank you to the teams at Futuroscope and Aquascope for inviting us to visit. They generously provided us with complimentary access and granted us filming permission for our trip. For general guests, it is worth noting that filming and photography are typically not allowed during operational hours. This special permission allowed us to get a true first look at Aquascope, and while our main video is featured in this review, you can head to our TikTok for more in-depth slide POVs and a deep dive into this brand-new French waterpark.
We cannot wait to return to Aquascope in the near future to finally ride Matrix and see any new developments that may happen. Until next time…
