Play through the past & piece together the future in this theatrically cinematic horror experience. Deathcell Magenta is the latest production created by R Space Productions which is on a super limited run in a secret location in London. Betrayal, deception and unprecedented choices lie ahead inside this twisted dystopian world you’ll find yourself in and you’ll only have 60 minutes to hit rewind in this latest blockbuster hit.
For those who have not heard, R Space Productions is the team behind this creation and was formed back in 2018. Deathcell was their first experience built which took you into a political, survival driven world inside the walls of a penitentiary, where prisoners were forced into brutal and sadistic games to survive. Deathcell Magenta is the origin story before this timeline, which means you don’t need to know or experience what they have created before. You may also know R Space Productions as the team behind Scream Bay however, with 30 years of combined experience in live entertainment, it drives them to deliver breaking industry norms with first of their kind experiences with in house, own IP productions and so much more.
Deathcell Magenta is truly on a limited and exclusive run. With it only being available from Friday 21st February through to Saturday 1st March. Group sizes are limited to 8 people and tickets start from £30 per person. The experience lasts around 60 minutes however, we would allow a little extra either side for good measure.
We were fortunate enough to get an exclusive preview of this latest production before the public and below is our thoughts from our visit as one of the first few through…
We made our way to the venue by heading into London by train. From Waterloo, we took the Jubilee line to Stratford and from here, we took a 15-20 minute walk through the Olympic park, to find the location of Deathcell Magenta the other side. Before we stepped inside, we met two Rewind representatives who were vague into what we were about to step into, but were friendly, funny and giving the false sense of security vibe.
Once our time slot was upon us, we were taken into the building and took a seat in a cinema room to watch the latest short film on offer called Magenta. This was gruesome and twisted but set the backstory and what was about to come. As the tension built and the story was now set, we went beyond the short film into a twisted horror adventure with escape room mechanics and immersive story telling.
Whilst we don’t want to spoil the entire experience, you come face to face with the star characters from the short film and end up playing in their sadistic challenges in order to survive. The puzzles included solving riddles to open padlocks, finding keys and other items to proceed through a labyrinth of horror and surprises. Whilst the puzzles were fun, they weren’t too challenging and regardless if you solve them, you get to move through the story. Our favourite scene required us to crawl through a tunnel and solve a puzzle to escape however we certainly wasn’t alone inside. We may of screamed once or twice and one of us was pulled back within and was nearly left behind!
The whole experience was decorated to keep you immersed into their own world and storyline, with a live narrative, plenty of characters and the guaranteed surprises. For something that is only around for a small amount of time and only had a short time to put together, you wouldn’t notice when inside and have used all their space to their advantage.
Overall, Deathcell Magenta is thrilling blend of short film, escape room elements, jump scares combined with a clever story and setting to create this origin story. We really enjoyed our time and with our group of 6, we screamed and panicked as much as we laughed and felt fear every step of the way. It is really enjoyable and only once you step back outside, will you realize how cool this experience truly is. Whilst we didn’t manage to correctly solve all of the puzzles, everything functioned and made us work as a small team whilst witnessing the live story evolve around you.
For those looking for something unique, challenging with horror included, then getting tickets to enjoy Deathcell Magenta should be the table. With the experience being available for just over a week and tickets getting close to sell out before opening, you’ll have to be fast to take part in this production.
