After each player of your group is suited and booted in the latest virtual reality gear, the experience is almost ready to begin. We get told some basic instructions before proceeding forward, such as which buttons of the controls in your hands you will need and some other safety rules. We then put our headsets on and entered into the virtual world for our adventure to begin, which was The Lost Lab. 

One thing we noticed about our virtual reality gear from the very start was the wireless virtual reality headsets, making it easy to not have to worry about wires hanging above you. They fitted well and the quality was all adjustable to your eyes prior to starting. Additionally, the haptic suits were comfortable and didn’t feel awkward to wear, you didn’t even realise you had it on. 

The start of both experiences, you are explained some basics on what you are expected to experience in your adventure, some basic controls if required and of course the story and quest your about to embark on. This got us ready of the next steps and prepared us for what was to come in the virtual world, which we were very excited for. 

Without spoiling the inside adventure, as you can see from our pictures that were taken from the real world, there is some great special effects used that translate even better into the virtual world. The time absolutely flew by and it was a great mixture of challenging but not too difficult that kids or first timers would be put off. Help was provided with audio and visual hints in the game and the game was very clear when you needed to move on or where you could move. 

Our only criticism from the gameplay is that there is lots of items to collect but, this isn’t explained to you in the introduction or beforehand. This meaning you could not be looking for them at the start or you have no idea what items to be looking for. Thankfully we had some idea beforehand and would recommend you to look everywhere for items that stand out, as these help with a score you will get at the end. 

With that said, our 25 minutes in this virtual game was very much enjoyed by all 3 of us. It came together seamlessly with a fun but creepy storyline, some high quality settings and an original game which we won’t see anywhere else (unless we visit the Stockholm DIVR location). 

When you complete your mission, you are greeted back by one of the workers as they start to assist with taking the gear off. From here, you can check out how you have done compared to everyone else. For us, we scored 76% completed of the game, which turned out to be quite high. Reaching the highest score of the day and in the top 5 of the week but, not enough for the all-time leader board. It seems all the items you collect and find all contribute to your final score and with limited time, it can make it difficult.

Overall, DIVR Labs is a great new addition to London and also to the UK for virtual reality. Their award winning games are super cool to experience and whilst we have played similar walk around virtual reality games before, nothing matched the quality and seamless experience.
