The starting maze for Route 666 by Dr Frights was Stormvale Cemetery, an atmospheric, strobe filled, haunting attraction. With one of the best starts that we can recall to Dr Frights, you have audio which created a high level of tension, with winding pathways into the crypts and tombs within. The actors had fantastic areas to work with, allowing them to get the scare after scare. With some great set scenes and and themed elements, it was a fantastic first destination to pass through, setting up for a strong year.

Slasher house was relentless for jump scares, continuing on from Stormvale Cemetery as they came out from everywhere. From above, both sides of the walls, behind you, it was just relentless. As you navigated through the blood soaked halls, we found ourselves being embedded more into the story of the Slasher House. With some very dark & intense scenes, it was one of our highest rated of the night.

Apocalypse took on a different style of attraction following the two twisted & dark destinations we had just been through. With it being a more tounge in cheek style, it was a little more tame and more comedic than the other mazes. Don’t get us wrong, it still provided a decent level of scares and had a good storyline, but following the other two, it felt a slight dipped and released some of the tension and terror, which is nice to have sometimes. Although you can’t relax for too long, as being chased by a chainsaw was certainly terrifying!

Hollywood Horror is one of the more rememberable destinations throughout Dr Frights. Bringing to life some of the hollywood classical horrors and themes in their own style. You will recognise some of the characters and scenes you get thrown in, with many iconic scenes coming to life with special effects. Most of the attraction was covered in heavy smoke, creating a spooky atmosphere. Whilst we didn’t have too many big scare moments, it was creepy to come face to face with a handful of household horror names. 

Hollywood Horror – Theming 65% | Storyline 70% | Screams 45% | Laughs 55% | Actors 35% – 54% scare Score

The Island of the dolls was just plain old creepy. With everything you would expect in a doll based attraction, you had dolls hiding in plain sight with you thinking they were, you got it, dolls. More creepy than anything elsewhere, it had some fun scenes that were enjoyed, with the use of masks and dark spaces. Whilst the weakest maze out of the bunch, it provided something a little different in this terrifying lineup.

Before you know it, we have the final attraction which is Killer Clowns Ultimate Championship. A theme used to end many years at Dr Frights and why not, clowns can be fun and terrifying. The concept of this maze remains pretty unchanged in recent years but we don’t mind, as we love it. How you go through scenes of energetic clowns as they provide jump scares, you can party to some of the biggest and best party songs. A very fun and enjoyable maze to end your time on Route 666, but don’t think you won’t get scared, as when you find yourself distracted by the pretty lights and songs, they will come for you. It is all out carnage until you make it to safety.
