If you’re looking for a bloody good night then look no further. FEAR at Avon Valley Scream Park returns for another season of scares and spectacular entertainment. Winner of our best event entertainment award last year, be prepared for 5 incredible scare attractions, two immersive zones with entertainment and roaming street team, with food, drink and side stalls for good measure.
This event can be located in Keynsham which is situated between Bristol and Bath. Found at Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park, this seasonal event attracts large crowds and sell out nights every year, and if you’ve never visited, then you are missing out. Running for a total of 11 nights throughout October/November, you only have a limited time to experience this award winning event. Tickets range depending on which package you’re after, with prices starting from £25 for entry and unlimited mazes. We do recommend buying fastrack if not wanting to be at the event the whole night but with it being open between 6pm till 10:30pm, you do have plenty of time.
Whilst nothing is new for 2024, the event promises to still polish and make improvements to what they already have. With The Exorcism, a haunting show making its final appearance before being retired and the two immersive zones becoming more established. Also X4 has a new overlay called Blackout, which continues on from a summer night event they did earlier on in the year.

Our First thoughts…
We absolutely adore visiting FEAR and since visiting from its second ever season, it has really come a long way over the many years it’s now been around. One of the more noticeable changes is that they have created two immersive zones at the event. With Stidham Village being the main event area which hosts The Exorcism, Malefica and House of Clowns, plus the fire show on the main stage. This area also includes the infamous clowns being Chunk & Trixie and new for this year, some new village characters such as the barber and butcher. This is to develop the storyline of the village itself.
The other area is the Republic of England, home to X4 Blackout, The Core and Vita Nova. With the roaming street team being a battle between the New World Order and the Rebellion, they have secret missions, and a chaotic laser show to complete this area. How the Republic of England area comes together really feels more complete than ever before, with all the mazes having some interlinking storylines and the roaming street team adding to that. The secret mission element is so cool and unique, where one of us had the doctor take one of us into the darkness for interrogation.
The whole night across the whole event, the entertainment was once again impressive, with multiple interactions, selfies and comedic moments. They really do get around and mix in with the crowd, and we can promise you that if you visit, you will interact with so many of them in some form. The fire and light show was always fantastic to see plus the laser show is a true spectacle.
Below we go into more depth about the attractions, giving you our thoughts and rating. Our ratings are completely separate and allows us to give a fair unbiased rating of each attraction. To know more about the ratings before you read below, do click here!
X4 Blackout – Scare Score: 81%

Darker than ever before, X4 returns as X4 Blackout as the story develops and the facility loses power. You enter the lab to find the alien Leo before everything turns chaotic. Guided this year by just a glow stick, it is impossible to see anything going around. This makes you a literal walking target, as the cast can head towards the glow and get scare after scare without you even knowing before it’s too late. Entering the lift is still one of the most terrifying features as it slams to the ground multiple times, making your body shudder every time. Walking through a maze we’ve done many times now but in pitch black adds a whole new level of fear, which if you’re scared of the dark or constant jump scares, then you are going to be running out of this maze when you can finally see the light.
The Core – Scare Score: 74%

The Core being one of the newest attractions is still a really unique concept. This deranged, damp and disturbing maze takes you inside the sewer system where the inhabitants are ready to get you. Protected by overalls that you must wear before entering, you will get wet inside as with many sections of water being just over ankle level deep will get splashed about by either you or the monsters. The intro scene really creates a level of tension and fear, with loud sounds, flashing lights and the panic that is driven upon you before you delve deep into The Core. Whilst some of its charm has gone with the torches you use to have not being used, it has lit the attraction up a little more and the addition of animatronics is quirky to see.
VITA NOVA – Scare Score: 67%

A maze created by the doctor himself, a solo trip to insanity awaits behind these doors. Themed to finding happiness by taking your pills and treatment, you pass through multiple levels of clearance to be successful in being treated. This is a solo experience, so expect you may not see your friends until the end. From heavy strobes through to crawling, this attraction does push you to your limits. Whilst we found it a little light on actors during our visit, it still creates a high level of terror within, especially if you hate being separated and dealing with the terror inside alone.
Malefica – Scare Score: 80%

Enter the abandoned church which is full of nuns and prepare for judgement day. This haunt is always a highlight, with a great level of detail and high intensity of scares, which the nuns always deliver on. It’s unnerving and unhinged all the way throughout. Using lots of air effects for more jump scares and lots of dark spaces for them to hide in, you never know what you’re stepping inside too. With some minor improvements inside such as a new introduction room which was clever and cut straight into the the thick of it. Plus we always find the church scene incredibly haunting.
House of Clowns – Scare Score: 70%

You can’t forget about the House of Clowns, one of the more light-hearted mazes, and the only non sinister maze from the lineup. Following the story of the disappearance of the most infamous member of the clown troupe, these jesters are ready to reign horror on those brave enough to walk through their funhouse. With lots of enjoyable moments filled with silly clown antics throughout, we were laughed at, mocked and forced to play the twisted games the playful clowns wanted. As one of the longest running mazes at FEAR, it still worthy in the lineup.
The Exorcism – Scare Score: 82%
Theming 90% | Storyline 100% | Screams 70% | Laughs 55% | Actors 95%
Here for its final season, this award winning show returns with a bang as the story of Evelyn Grace is displayed once more. Be immersed into the spine chilling story as you join the holy father, a sister and the devil himself as he possess an innocent girl. With some incredible special effects used in the dark room where the Exorcism plays out, you get up close, as in small groups, you sit in a circle and try to free the girl. You can really hear your own heart beat throughout this story with how chilling it is. With a team of 3, the performance is one of the best you’ll see across Halloween. Plus for its final year, the story continues on into an exclusive spirits bar. Take a seat after the show and have a drink in this exclusive bar, where the show has a deeper storyline that adds to the original story. This attraction will be missed.
Overall, FEAR at scream park is packed full of fear for 2024. With a strong lineup of 5 multi-sensory attractions that have high levels of theming and high detailed storylines, you can’t fault what they have mastered. Even outside the mazes, they have two incredible shows which you can watch time and time again, which we did. Whilst we’re sad The Exorcism comes to an end after it’s third season, we look forward to whatever does replace this show.
