EXIT Newcastle is a live escape room venue located in the heart of Newcastle city center. Just a short walk from the train station, it’s easily accessible and home to several escape games that vary in theme, difficulty, and challenge. The core mission is to bring everyone together—from families to friends and colleagues—for an hour of exciting puzzles. With over 40,000 players and a 10-year history, EXIT Newcastle’s team certainly knows what they’re doing in the world of escape games.
We were immediately impressed by EXIT Newcastle’s diverse collection of games. You have five to choose from: the horror-themed The Attic, the superhero adventure Save The City, the heist mission The Heist, the science lab challenge Volatile Labs, and the underground adventure Fiorella’s Cave. All games last up to an hour and follow the same pricing structure.
Pricing is based on the number of players, with Saturdays being the most expensive day. With prices starting as low as £16.25 per person, you can get a great value, especially with larger teams. While we believe four-person teams are ideal, this will only cost between £21 and £24 per person, making it a fantastic value-for-money experience. The venue is open daily until 10 PM, so you’ll always be able to find a time slot to play one of their games.
Our visit took place on a Saturday afternoon in September. We found the venue with ease while in Newcastle city center. Upon stepping inside, we were greeted by our games master, who welcomed us and showed us to the waiting room. Here, we could store our belongings and use the restrooms if needed. Shortly after our arrival, the game was ready to begin. After a brief rundown of the rules, our games master introduced the story of Fiorella’s Cave. We appreciated that the narrative wasn’t too far-fetched and that we were given a few items at the start, which we were sure would be useful later on.
We were then guided to the room, but to get there, we had to take a lift down, as there were no stairs. We quickly realized this was part of the experience, and the story was going to get interesting very quickly. We were immediately thrown into a series of puzzles that required us to use tools, logic, and clues to get the lift moving again. We loved how logical everything was; each step made sense, and nothing felt too far-fetched.
The main part of the experience takes you into the cave, where there is a lot to do. However, we could see from our oxygen levels that our time was limited. The cave was dark and atmospheric, with audio that helped create a truly immersive environment. With several rooms to conquer, each step brought us closer to our goal: escape.
Towards the end, our mission goal came into sight. We located the voodoo-like skull and managed to escape back in the same lift we had arrived in, which was a clever way to tie the story together and give us a satisfying reason to enter, find the item, and then escape. Time absolutely flew by; it took us 48 minutes and 4 seconds to successfully escape. We had plenty of time left but it felt like we just started playing. We just wanted to keep going, which is a classic sign of a well-designed escape game.
We highly recommend playing Fiorella’s Cave for a number of reasons. It features a simple yet clever story that is perfectly suited to its location and the game design. The puzzles are logical and well-structured, providing you with everything you need at the right time. The gameplay starts in a more structured state and, as you progress, opens up to a free-flowing, non-linear experience. There is a lot to see and do, and you won’t be trapped in a single room for the entire 60 minutes, so don’t worry about being stuck in one place (unless you are really struggling!).
A huge thank you to the team at EXIT Newcastle for working with us on our recent visit in September. They provided us with a complimentary experience in return for our honest rating and content. We truly enjoyed our time with them and can’t wait for our next visit to try another one of their fun themes, as they have plenty to choose from.
