Enter the world of espionage and be introduced to clueQuest, one of the UK’s highest rated escape rooms. Have you got what it takes to join this spy agency with Mr Q and his team and take on Professor Blacksheep and his associates?
For those who have not yet heard of clueQuest, they can be found near King Cross station in Central London and are home to plenty of escape challenges. They currently have 4 escape rooms to play at the venue and many online escape games too, all exclusive and made by the team.
We’ve played almost every experience they have to offer and you can check out our thoughts on all of the past experiences by clicking here – ClueQuest Reviews
clueQuest have a very clear story that follows through all of of their games. This being that you are recruited within the spy agency by Mr Q, the mastermind mouse whose aim is to stop Professor Blacksheep, a sinister sheep who is always looking to take over the world. Mr Q has help from Mrs Q and other friends along his way whilst Professor Blacksheep has loyal minions who equally assist him on his perplexing plots.
In this review, we take on clueQuests latest challenge which is Glitch Hunters, their first outdoors game which is set across Central London. Being one of the longest games they have produced and using their own technology and years of knowledge to create the next chapter in the clueQuest story!
Glitch Hunters is not the first outdoor game to play in London or outdoors, so it was going to be interesting to see clueQuests version of this style of game. Tickets cost £20 per person and you can have from 2-8 players in your team. You are recommended to have two phones connected to the game but each member can have access to it via a link on game day.
You can play Glitch Hunters whenever you like but it is highly recommended to play it during daylight hours and not when it is dark. When you purchase the game online, you will get a welcome email with the next set of instructions and what to do ready for game day. You get the email fairly quickly, so you can get this arranged the night before.
Our experience took place on a day out in London and we started this in the morning around 10am on a lovely warm summers day. We got ourselves some supplies from a local coffee shop from the starting point and read up on the rules before starting our latest mission!
Story & Theming – 9/10
Glitch Hunters had a realistic and capturing story right from the very start. The story was that Professor Blacksheep and his team are planning on taking over the world and creating a Global Warning pandemic by taking control of the satellites and warming up the country. Mr Q caught wind of the news and recruited us to help stop this incident actually going ahead.
For that to happen, we had to make our way around London to find that everyday buildings and objects had been been glitched and would look out of the ordinary using our gadget tools provided. The tool simply being your mobile phone but with the latest of technology installed, you could see everything in a new light.
As this was set out across London and the weather being absolutely delightful, we got to see so many unique parts of London that we’ve never come across before. We got to see different parts of London that even after multiple trips, we have yet seen or even heard of. Everything blended in to the real world and for an outdoor game, really provided the perfect setting for this game with a logical story to match.
Puzzles & Flow – 8/10
The puzzles with Glitch Hunters were surprisingly really clever and different. Whilst the puzzles all had to be mobile based, each puzzle really stood out and felt different from the last. You had to use the real world surroundings along with the information on the mobile to make sense and solve the puzzles. Whilst some were simple, others made it up in the difficulty levels.
Ultimately, this was one of the first outdoor games we have played where we felt every puzzle had a reasonable level of challenge involved but, was never too difficult to solve. This meant we never felt frustrated or annoyed that we couldn’t complete it, allowing us to have a great time from start to finish.
The flow of the game was rather different as there was no completion time to beat. You can go as fast or as slow as you liked and if you got stuck on the puzzles, you could decide to use the hint system which would give several hints before giving you the answer if you were that stuck. We used maybe 1 hint all game but would never need the answer given. You can pause the game whenever you liked to stop for food or drinks, which we did to take a toilet break and to get some more snacks!
Uniqueness – 9/10
clueQuest always goes above & beyond with each one of their experiences, so Glitch Hunters is no different. With it being an outdoor game, they do have limited functions but they have done extremely well with the technology used with the mobile phone combined with the real world. The system used was high quality, different to anything else we have played outdoors and we faced no issues whilst playing. It was simple to use and fun to play.
The puzzles they have managed to use were all linked to the story and different from the last. From using the phone as a camera, to a map, to a decoder and much more, you will be using it in some many different ways. The system on the mobile had useful key features too, such as moving the team along once one phone had completed the puzzle, instead of you having to replicate it on each device connected. Although, you can ignore moving it on and complete it yourself if you did wish to do that.
The story also linked well with the puzzles and surroundings, with it being linked to glitches in the real world that could only be seen via the phone, it felt realistic and that it was actually happening. It probably helped much more with the scorching weather we had on the day too!
Ultimately, it all linked together to be unique and perfectly combined to make one of the best outdoor games on the market to date.
Taking everything into account, Glitch Hunters is the best outdoor game you can play in London right now! All the components unite to create the ultimate spy mission, assisting Mr Q to take down Professor Blacksheep once again. With the unique outdoor adventure allowing you to travel across the picturesque Central London landscape, on a 2-3 hour adventure with just using your phone, it ticks all the boxes for a perfect escape challenge for family & friends.
Using our rating system, it scored an impressive 26/30 and for an outdoor game, that is super impressive. Using the outdoor environment to help the theme of the game and keeping the story realistic was really some of our key takeaways from this mission.
Our team of 4 played this on a weekday and we managed to successfully complete our mission is just over 1 hour 40 minutes. The average time is between 2-3 hours and believe this is pretty accurate if you add in our stoppage time and preparing time also.
A huge thank you to the team at clueQuest for once again getting in touch with us to allow us to play Glitch Hunters. They provided us with a complimentary experience in return for our thoughts and content. As our favourite escape room company, they constantly are innovative leaders in the escape industry world and are always excited to see what they produce next.
When the next clueQuest mission needs us, we will be ready to take on Professor Blacksheep once more! Until then, let us know your favourite clueQuest adventure over on our socials.
