IAMAI at clueQuest Escape Room Review

clueQuest IAMAI Title

Step into a world of light and immersion as you take on the latest spy mission at one of the best escape room companies in the UK. clueQuest has officially launched IAMAI, a cutting edge, tech heavy escape room featuring 12 projectors, advanced projection mapping, animatronics, and an abundance of puzzles. More than two years in the making, this experience pulls out all the stops to deliver a truly unforgettable game!

For those unfamiliar with the name, clueQuest is a standout company that has been a staple of the London scene since 2013. Over the years, they have expanded their spy themed “agency” universe, centered around key characters Mr. and Mrs. Q as they battle their arch-nemesis, Professor Blacksheep. The venue is located just a 10 minute walk from Kings Cross Station and is incredibly easy to find thanks to its iconic bright yellow exterior.

clueQuest offers a wide selection of games, including Plan 52, the longest-running escape room in the world! Their roster also includes Operation Blacksheep and Revenge of the Sheep, followed by Cq ORIGENES, which was their most recent release before IAMAI. Each room offers something unique; while Plan 52 uses more traditional puzzles (recently updated with some modern tech), newer rooms like CQ Origen and IAMAI utilize high end technology to enhance both the puzzles and the overall player experience.

Beyond their physical rooms, they offer a “Print+Cut+Escape” play-at-home series that launched during the pandemic and now features over 10 adventures. They also have an outdoor mission called Glitch Hunters, which originated in London and has since expanded to Brighton and Canterbury. Regardless of the mission you choose, they successfully immerse you in a world of espionage that always leaves you wanting more.

clueQuest hosted a special afternoon for a select number of escape room enthusiasts to catch up, talk shop, and, of course, take on IAMAI. The name is a clever palindrome reading the same forwards and backwards as “I AM AI.” With Artificial Intelligence being such a massive topic recently, it’s the perfect theme for their latest mission. As an evil AI system evolves at a rapid pace, time is of the essence to help Mr. and Mrs. Q and the MM7 robot save the world once again!

The entire experience lasts around 90 minutes, featuring a 75 minute in-game timer. That extra 15 minutes of game time is definitely needed; the space is vast, which means there are a lot of puzzles. The room is designed with multiple puzzle stations, each offering something unique that comes into play at different stages. The use of projection mapping and lighting is incredibly effective, making the environment feel truly futuristic. The centerpiece is a custom animatronic, but we won’t say too much about that, as you really have to experience it for yourself!

Even with a large team, we loved that there was always something for everyone to do. You can collaborate on a single task or work separately on the other side of the room to move the game forward collectively. Either way, you have to stay busy to solve everything. The difficulty for IAMAI is on the higher end, so prior escape room experience is helpful, though having up to eight players definitely gives you a bit of an advantage!

My favorite feature of the room had to be the ending, wow, I was not expecting that to appear out of nowhere! Naturally, I can’t share any spoilers; you’ll have to solve the clues and help the spy agency yourself to find out. I also loved the use of projection mapping and the unique technology integrated into the puzzles. Nothing felt repetitive or like something I had seen numerous times at other escape rooms. There were no padlocks, and the seamless blend of audio, lighting, and projections creates that “new era” of immersion everyone is looking for.

We teamed up with Mairi from The Escape Roomer to assist us, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with her (plus, her expertise was much needed to succeed!). We managed to complete our mission with just under six minutes to spare, taking it right to the wire. We loved the thrill, the tension, and the way the story intertwined with the tech. This experience clearly showcases the team’s dedication to creating a truly memorable adventure.

A huge thank you to the team at clueQuest for inviting us to the influencer afternoon and sharing more about the room, their future plans, and of course, IAMAI! This visit was complimentary in return for our honest review and content. IAMAI is proving to be hugely popular, with timeslots selling fast, but fortunately, they are open daily with plenty of availability. All of their rooms are fantastic, so if you’ve never visited, you won’t be disappointed regardless of what you play.

Until next time…
