Are you ready to step into Digbeth’s first immersive horror experience? This is Meltdown at Luna Springs, created by the team at Genius Creations, who have a history of creating some terrifying experiences & attractions across the UK. This is a brand new 20 minute attraction built within the grounds of Luna Springs for a limited time this Halloween plus, they have immersive roaming actors, food & drinks, a funfair ride and an amazing party atmosphere to add to the package.
Luna Springs is an events space which can be found in Digbeth, Birmingham and is a year round venue which provides bottomless brunches, club nights and other fantastic events. They have a bar with a huge range of drinks, cocktails and snacks, as well as a food area which has pizzas, hotdogs and other tasty treats. This is in an indoor marquee section of the venue, which has tables and an area for a DJ to perform with a small dance floor. They also have an outdoor section, where you can find clean bathrooms, a fairground ride and the outdoor live stage. This is where you can find the Meltdown maze this Halloween, which has been built within the arches of the location.
The scare maze is a seperate attraction to the rest of the event, so this is a ticket you would need to purchase either online or on the night, although it is recommended to purchase online. Tickets are from £14 per person and you can purchase a time slot of when you can join the queue. On our night, the queue was quiet during the end of the event, meaning we had no wait at all.
Our Thoughts from this event…
This is a brand new event for 2023 and this caught our attention from the get go with its cool advertising and then very quickly, gaining great reviews from early on. With this in mind, we managed to find some extra time in our busy schedule to make a visit to see what all the fuss was about. Finding the location was simple, as they have a car park outside the Luna Spring venue, which we managed to park up in and get access into. We attended late on a Friday night, meaning we were ID’d to get into the venue of Luna Springs. From here, we stepped into a large party atmosphere, seeing a DJ playing popular songs and a venue of people having food & drinks in a warm marquee structure. Here you can check in to the scare maze by the team, which is what we did, that confirmed our entry time and provided us with a ticket which you’ll need to give at the maze entrance.
If you arrive early, you can then enjoy your time at the Luna Springs venue. We had 30 minutes spare, so we managed to get a drink from the bar and soak up the DJ party, which lots of people were already dancing & loving. We ventured outside to take a look about and seen the fairground ride and found the entrance to the scare maze. There was a handful of roaming actors too, which provided some additional entertainment. Our time then came to enter the scare maze…
Before we stepped into Meltdown, which was the name of the scare maze. We had an actor outside holding a sign protesting that said “Fuck Viktor”, whilst this meant nothing to us right now, we knew this would link to the story inside. With this said, we then made our way into Meltdown and waited inside the first room and had an introduction scene with an audio announcement.
Meltdown was a mixture of your traditional scare maze as you walk through multiple themed rooms and have jump scares and scary characters interact with you. Meltdown adds an additional layer of immersion with having a story from each character, which interlinks from outside the maze through to each scene. This was something unexpected to see at Meltdown, as we didn’t think a first year standalone scare maze would be so story intensive. The story made clear sense and having the link from characters outside of the maze, through to each different scene in the maze was mind-blowing.
The theming inside Meltdown also came to us as a surprise, as it was heavily themed in each room filled with custom built sets, lighting packages and background music. This was the full package when it comes to scare mazes and they managed to incorporate this all. We had science labs and reactors, UV sewage scenes with flowing water and more. Each room was different to the last and the quality was excellent.
As you can see by our rating score, 96% makes Meltdown one of the best mazes in the UK right now, this year. We don’t believe we will manage to find another Halloween maze which will provide the same thrill & chills as Luna Springs & Genius Creations have created. The scares were 100% and combined with our score of 95% of laughs, it was pretty much a perfect blend of terrifying but comical which we believe is a recipe for a perfect haunt in 2023.
With tickets costing from £14 per person, the value for money is fantastic. You are getting a 20 minute top tier experience alongside having the atmosphere of the rest of Luna Springs there. This isn’t an attraction where you do the maze & leave, with the live DJ, ride and food & drink, we were more than happy to stay before & after at the venue to really make a night of it.
What is worth noting is the talented cast that make Meltdown this haunting experience. The actors inside played their characters to perfection, with them having an energetic cast that were fully involved in making each and every persons experience one to remember. Each scene provided a lasting memory for us and many of the scenes were stand out.
Ultimately, Luna Springs Halloween Scare Maze Meltdown was hands down the ultimate experience this Halloween. From top theming, immersive story telling, sinister scares and clever comical moments, all put together by a creative cast, we had no words when we came out of our experience. The night was so much better than our expectation from a first year attraction and shows what events can do. This isn’t the highest budget event and neither did the team have long to create Meltdown, so using the arches and location to its advantage and creating this unique concept, gets a massive round of applause from us.
A huge thank you to the team at Luna Springs for inviting us down at the last minute to experience this new event. They did provide us with 2 free tickets to the maze as well as some drink vouchers on the evening. They also allowed us to get some exclusive in maze footage, which you have in our review plus a short TikTok showing a little more of what you may experience. A huge thank you to the team behind the creation, Genius Creations UK, who showed us around after the maze closed and gave us an insight of what they have designed. They have some big plans for the future so keep an eye on what they are creating.
Tickets are still available for 2023 to experience Meltdown and if you can’t get down this year, we are sure to see this highly rated attraction return for 2024.
