Houdinis Escape Room RMS Titantic Review ()

Can you make it out on an adventure you won’t forget? Houdini’s Escape Room is a leading chain of Escape Rooms which can be found all across the UK. Voted as the number one escape room in the world, they have a big name behind them, countless rooms and many challenges await for those who are ready to immerse themselves within them.

Houdini’s Escape Rooms can currently be found in 20 locations, from London through to Dundee, Bristol to Crewe, even online. You will see them time and time again as they constantly expand. Each location hosts multiple escape room games and some venues hosting the same rooms when they are a popular theme. To list a handful, you have dinosaurs, wizards, egyptian and even spooky and prison themed escapes. There is a room for everyone.

Our review focuses on our experience to Houdini’s Escape Room in Greenwich, London. Found within the Davy’s Winery, a perfect place to wait around and have a drink before or after your experience! Experiences are best booked before you turn up at the venue, prices start from £25 and everything is simple to sort & book via the official website. We spoke with the staff at Davy’s before entering the Houdini’s venue upstairs.

We were taking on the R.M.S. Titanic room which can be found at a number of the locations. With a 50% success escape rate and 3/5 rating for difficulty rating, we were ready to taken on our first Houdini’s room.

“Escape from R.M.S. Titanic is a nautical themed escape experience in which you must solve puzzles, find clues and collect items to escape from the sinking ship before it’s too late.”

Story & Theming – 6/10

Starting with the story of R.M.S. Titanic, it was simple and matched the nautical theme of the room. Everybody knows about the Titanic story and this rooms follow similar suit. With the ship sinking, we had to solve challenges and escape within 60 minutes.  There was plenty of ship like announcements in the starting room to reinforce this story and add a small layer of urgency.

The theme of the room was again simple but kept with the era and items you would find in the ship. Whilst some elements of the room were better themed than others, it done the job of immersiving you into the certain rooms you may find on a ship.

The starting room was the strongest room for the story and theme in our opinion, with it setting the game up right and made perfect sense with the tasks you needed to complete to move on. Whilst not the strongest theme or story, the key is in simplicity. WIth some upgrades and other elements not working during our experience, it could be a much higher rated room on a another date.

Puzzles & Flow – 6/10

Houdini’s do certainly offer a challenge with the puzzles and this room was no different. The starting puzzle you are given a hint on where to start and even with that, we found it a challenge. Thankfully, we managed to work it out within time but it was a slow start from us. With many hiding places and some simple yet complex puzzles, it is recommended to bring some smart people and team players who can think out of the box here.

As you get into the swing of things, it starts to come in your stride as you complete a number of different puzzles. The whole team can easily get involved and as a team of 4, we felt this was a perfect size team as we could split off into two smaller teams to conquer more and different parts.

The flow was restricted in some way as the room followed a linear gameplay, however there was plenty to do and keep you occupied. It did lose some flow with the hint system, as it did require the game host to come into the room to check things and provide the hint, instead of over a radio or in room hint system.

Uniqueness – 6/10

Heading on uniqueness and the R.M.S. Titanic room offered plenty of different puzzles we have not seen before. Whilst some were straightforward, they offered a great sense of achievement when you completed them. The theme of the room isn’t too generic either and you do not find many nautical themed rooms, whilst it is also themed to the titanic story and time.

Some of our favourite elements from this game would be the theming in the starting room and how they use clever hiding spaces throughout the whole game. You will certainly be scratching your heads all the way through, even if you are experienced in escape rooms!

Overall, we had great fun experiencing our first Houdini’s Escape Room over at the Greenwich location. We would say our journey of playing and completing the R.M.S. Titanic was simple yet fun. Whilst not the most immersive or unique escape game you will play, we had great achievements when completing set puzzles and with the difficulty level of the puzzles actually being pretty hard, we did it in great time and managing to escape.

Our rating of 18/30 is towards the middle of our ratings and we believe with a few adjustments and changes through the hinting system and effects working, this would easily be a much stronger room. This is not to say the other rooms in this location are much higher quality or the same game at other locations.

With this said, our team of 4 enjoyed our time solving the game and really had to put our thinking cap on all the way through. Our game host was super friendly and offered help at the right time and kept us on the right path to make sure we did complete our journey.

A huge thank you to Houdini’s who worked with us during our visit. They provided us a complimentary experience for 4 in return for our review and other content. We had exclusive permission to film a short TikTok and take some images, which you should check out to see a snippet of what you can expect.

All tickets should be purchased directly via the Houdini’s website and we look forward to trying another game in maybe another location in the near future!
