Scaresville Review ()

INTRODUCTION

Scaresville is back for 2026! Found at Kentwell Hall in Long Melford, near Sudbury, it is an immersive live action horror walk set across the historic hall’s buildings, woods and grounds, taking place in almost complete darkness.

Returning this October with new twists, old favourites and some devilish new scares, the event is running from 15th October to 31st October 2026. The scare tour lasts around an hour from entry into the ScareZone, so you will want to plan your night to make sure you fit it all in.

Visiting is all about groups, with groups of 8 to 10 going through together, booked in timed half-hour entry slots. There are catering stalls available while you wait to be called, so you can grab a drink or snack before heading into the darkness.

Tickets start from £33.50, and please note, Scaresville is not for the faint-hearted and is unsuitable for those under 14.

THE OVERALL EVENT…

WOO – event info | Boo – Roaming Characters | Woo – vareity & Quality

This was our first time visiting Scaresville and we’ve been intrigued how they bring their event together. As a singular maze, they take you on a long woodland walk across many different themes, both inside and outside, as they try and scare you. When we arrived at the event, we checked in at the ticket office and were given a number. This number would be announced later on and this would be when we would be allowed to enter the attraction, until then, we could enjoy the music, food and drink in a little hub area.

Scaresville has plenty of useful and clear information on the website and when you arrive on what to do. The website gave us everything we needed but when we arrived, it was explained to us in person about what was going to happen. Toilets were clearly labelled and everything did make sense, especially with this being different to the usual events we attend to. Whilst the hub was small, it provided plenty of food, drinks and some music however, it just lacked some roaming characters to keep the Halloween tension building. We understand they are wanting to keep as many in the attraction itself however, we think this would be really beneficial for them. The maze itself has plenty of variety and quality about it, with it covering lots of themes and for it to be in the woodlands, they’ve created some great sets out there, which we were not expecting to see.

The maze itself…

WOO – lighting & SFX | WOO – enjoyment | BOO –  Storytelling

After a detailed safety briefing, we started our journey into the Scaresville trail. Obviously over the hour, there was so much to cover. Starting with a claustrophobic walkway, meeting some of the slaughterhouse style crew, it built the tension showing how tight, dark and eerie this was going to be. As the trail went further on, we found ourselves in a forest, woodland huts, tents and everything in between. It was surprising how much indoor and enclosed sets they had, as we expected it to be fully outdoors.

One of our favourite features about Scaresville has to be the use of special effects across the hour. They had air blast guns, chainsaws, smoke, strobe lighting, air cushions, everything you’d expect to see in scare mazes but just scattered about. At the same time, they had some very unique effects, such as the moving container we got locked in at the very start. That was honestly so terrifying as it moved back and forth, as a simple effect, it genuinely created pure terror for the whole group. They also had scenes where you felt trapped and had to find your way out, but it wasn’t as easy as you first thought to escape. Ultimately, some great effects for a woodland trail.

Where Scaresville could see some improvement is with the storytelling. It just had no story set out. With how long the walk was, with plenty of stop scenes and possible character interactions, they had the chance to tell a longer story across all the different zones. It seems we just met characters who for the most part were very quiet and silent. We think with some improvement here, it could bring the attraction to the next level.

We really enjoyed our time through this trail. For it being a woodland walk with lots of different themes, which is just different to all the scream parks and other events we’ve done this season, it’s nice to see the difference of a much longer experience.

Scaresville was a spooky yet enjoyable maze which has a lot of potential to grow into a bigger and better event in the future. We love what they have managed to do with the space, with the use of special effects in the forest and then how there are so many different sets and themes shown throughout. With some minor changes, we can see this event hit a scarier threshold and be an event to be reckoned with.

A huge thank you to the team for inviting us to come experience this event for our first time. They provided us with 2 complimentary tickets in return for our honest feedback and content.

The event seems hugely popular with the crowds gathering the later the evening got on, so make sure you grab your tickets and head there early to see what’s lurking in the woodlands this Halloween!
