Terror Island returns as the ultimate Halloween destination for 2023. With 4 gruesome mazes, a haunting street team and other festive entertainment throughout the night, Terror Island is no stranger in providing a great night out.
Terror Island is located on the Isle of Wight and is found at the BlackGang Chine park, close to Ventnor. Throughout the year, the park is aimed at kids and is an amusement park with a great lineup of other events and other entertainment. For selected dates in October however, as the night sky starts to settle, Terror Island takes over. With more horror, excitement and fun than ever before, this event provides some of the best entertainment on the island in October.
Not only do you have the 4 mazes, you have a fantastic street team, a stage area which has either a DJ or a live band playing banging music, selected rides & attractions open and then not forgetting the food and drink on offer.
For those wandering how do I get to Terror Island, do not worry! Terror Island has made it easier than ever before to get to the event. For £42, you can get a return foot ferry across from Portsmouth, a return coach to the event and entry into the event with the mazes included. Fantastic value and super easy for those who don’t want to drive to the Island! For those on the Island, you can also take advantage of the coach offer for £8, and you can purchase just a street pass for £15 to just enjoy the atmosphere, or for £28 get entry to the mazes. The maze tickets only come with one access per attraction but for £5 per person, you can re-enter any maze of your choice.
Our First Thoughts from this event…
This was our first ever time to Terror Island and from hearing only rave reviews in previous years, it was certainly on the bucket list. Our worry was how would we get to the event, but with the travel bundle on the website, it is certainly affordable to do the whole event in comparison to other events of a similar nature.
Arriving at the event, it was still light as it starts as early as 6pm, with mazes opening from 6:30pm, but plenty of time to start riding the rides and getting the food & drinks in. The mazes stay open until 10:30pm and the park closes at 11pm, so you have more than enough time to do everything and enjoy the atmosphere.
We managed to check out some of the rides they have in BlackGang Chine, from Evolution, a small drop ride but made taller from one side looking out to the sea on a cliff! The other ride Extinction, is a 360 pendulum ride and looks fantastic at night. They have the water slide open and the hedge maze too, plus other fun side games run by Forte Entertainment. The main stage arena was atmospheric, with a band playing for the first half of the night before the DJ took over and added to the party atmosphere they have put on. With a bar opposite the stage, it was great to get a drink in between the mazes to just relax and chill.
The food was superb and delicious, we tried the Butchers sausage and the pulled pork loaded fries and it filled our hunger. There is plenty on offer though and it comes out really quick too, with us only having to wait a few minutes. The drinks from the IScream Bar were quick and the team were friendly. They also had a special bar supported by the Isle of Wight cocktails, themed to one of the mazes and was a great addition.

Blind Alley, Snatched

Blind Alley Snatched is a hooded maze that takes place in the Whitecroft Hospital, as you meet firsthand the doctor and his assistant. Together they set the story before you enter the hospital corridors, blind and left in the dark. Whilst hooded mazes are not the most popular, Terror Island have used some cool scare techniques to terrorise the public in this maze. The intro and ending scenes were our favourite however, with starting and ending the story in a great way. A fantastic starter maze for your evening.
Amphibious, Darklight

Hidden within this heavy UV maze, you will find a mysterious sea witch and other haunting nautical creatures who plan to create your nightmare. With a pretty unique concept, we found many blinding corridors, hidden corners and maze-like sections which left us questioning what was the right route to escape. We loved the introduction scene with a very strong actor who set the story before sending us in to defend for ourselves. With it being one of the scarier mazes we completed on our trip, we would recommend you prepare to scream a lot in this one.
The Summoning – New for 2023

The Summoning is brand new for 2023 and is home to a cult which plans to set you on the path of redemption and to make you join them. The maze had some of the tightest sections so far this Halloween to get through with narrow claustrophobic corridors, actors high and low and some really cool effects. Again the introduction and ending scene really created the story for this experience and the theming was very well done throughout the whole maze. The harrowing attraction was a real highlight on our visit and for its first year, we are sure it’s going to be a highlight for many.
The Blood Shed, Dead Meat

The Blood Shed is a fan favourite and is known to provide some top jump scares and horrifying moments. With some very detailed set pieces and a team of scary & spooky actors, we found ourselves running through this one as quickly as we could. The highlights would definitely be the introduction actor, the maniac with the chainsaw and the oven scene which felt like we were being cooked like a pig. One definitely to leave till the end to get some extreme screams to your evening.
Ultimately, Terror Island provided so much WOW factor during our night at the event. The mazes were of such high quality and provided endless screams & haunting moments and even when we left the attractions, we were kept busy with all the other entertainment they had on offer. We really must applaud the team for putting on such a good event and for a decent amount of time. It was more than enough even on a busy night, to do all the mazes and enjoy the atmosphere & maybe do a ride or two. Our highlights of the evening had to the DJ & band performing on the stage, the new maze The Summoning and the uniqueness of Amphibious.
The event only runs on selected nights during the end of October, these being the 27th, 28th & 29th of October, plus the 4th & 5th of November. Tickets can only be purchased directly on the Terror Island website and here you can find the travel bundle if coming from off the Isle of Wight. We managed to get a sneak peek of this event during the blue card / press preview night.
We stayed on the Island during our visit in a nearby town called Ventnor, where you could book a hotel and we used B&B Taxis as well as Charlie’s Taxi’s for affordable transportation to & from the event. This allowed us to take full advantage of the bar and just enjoy ourselves on the Isle of Wight. Everybody is super friendly and willing to help, and we managed to find everything and more during our visit, with an easy ferry crossing and travelling across the island.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Terror Island for inviting us down to the event. They did provide us with a discounted ferry crossing & hotel, as well as free food, drinks and access to the mazes.
