Get transported back to the 1930s for a night of murder mystery. Featuring an immersive theatrical performance, a 3-course dining experience, and a stylish cocktail bar.
The Murdér Express is taking an important journey, and you have the exciting opportunity to be on board. The worlds most valuable diamond is being transported to the Von Cleethorpes estate, but it’s not long before the diamond is missing, bodies are beginning to pile up and the clock is ticking to catch a killer and recover the Jewel of the Empire.
The London venue is located within the railway arches on Pedley Street which is nearby the Bethnal Green Overground & Underground stations. We chose to travel to Whitechapel on the Elizabeth Line, and it was easy to find after a 10-15 minute walk.
Tickets must be purchased in advance through the ‘Fever’ booking link on their website. The experience runs several days a week and even has multiple showings with varying ticket prices. It is advertised as suitable for 5 years plus, with select family friendly showtimes. The ticket includes a seat at a table (these may be shared if groups are smaller than 4-6 people), a three course set menu (vegetarian option available) and of course the show itself which in total lasts approx. 2 hours.
Upon arrival at ‘Pedley Street’ station, you are given a safety briefing and pre-checked in, before heading inside and receiving your train ticket. Here you are taken to the waiting area with designated tables corresponding with who you’ll be sharing a table with in the show. There’s QR codes to order drinks from the bar whilst you wait, you can also check out the photo booth (upcharge).
Whilst not on a real moving train, you are immersed from the moment you arrive at the ‘station’ to boarding the purpose built train, with rows of booth seating on either side of the carriage, meaning everyone is in the centre of the experience. Each ‘window’ is a large screen that shows cgi visuals of the views along the journey, and also videos at key points.
Throughout the show there are suitably brief pauses where the three course meal is served. The menu is set to include an asparagus soup, beef main and sticky toffee pudding dessert, (a plant based lasagne alternative is also available).
With a cast of 5 talented actors & actresses who take you on the journey from station to station. The fourth wall is certainly broken in this immersive theatre experience, with the characters actively engaging with the audience, and acknowledging the food intervals in a clever way.
This laugh-a-minute show was packed full of physical comedy, innuendos and more, which was an unexpected but pleasant surprise having a more comedic focus. With so much going on, especially the interactions from the various characters on different tables, we did find it a little chaotic to follow at times, but that’s also the beauty of immersive experiences.
This appears to be part two in the Murder Express series, with some characters old and new, but no prior knowledge was required as they were introduced perfectly and followed it’s own unique storyline in the same universe. The clever storyline really drew us into the value of the diamond, and of course made us suspicious of every character leaving us guessing right till the very end.
The Murder Express has definitely found its niche offering, and if you’re looking for a dinner show with a difference, it’s definitely worth checking out. Featuring a tasty three course meal (plus a bonus extra starter snack), reasonable drink options and prime viewing for the very entertaining immersive experience.
We’d like to thank the team at The Murder Express for reaching out to us, inviting us to experience the show. We received standard entry for two people which included the four course dinner as part of the show. Any facts stated are that of the experience, and any opinions are our own.
