NEW ATTRACTIONS FOR 2024

The Purgatory is the first of the new mazes and is certainly a unique addition to the event. Using Haunted Lantern technology, you step into the old manor house and prepare for judgement. The light is your friend… But is it? With your trusted lantern, you try to evade the creatures that lurk in the dark, which seemed to be coming from everywhere and with limited light, it was hard to not be scared. You get to go in small groups, between 2-4 people, meaning it’s a much more personal experience and a must do for 2024.

The Carving is the other brand new maze as when the clock strikes 9, the true harvest begins. Stepping into the Appleton’s annual Halloween dinner, but the true nature emerges of why your there. The Carving is truly a real life American horror story and you become the main character within it. From a friendly start to a sinister end, you will be screaming to leave the clutches of the Appleton’s.

Carnival Cabaret replaces the Circus of Screams whilst they stop touring at present. The new show brings some familiar faces, such as Camp Dracula and his talented freaks to put on a camp, cheeky and crazy performance. From aerialists to fire performers and not forgetting the pain lady, it had all sections covered. A fun way to take a break from the scares of the other attractions and enjoy a Halloween show!

Outside of the incredible new attractions, we have all of our returning favourites. Doom Town is still as impressive this year as the deadly game is brought to life. With a hoard of zombies around every corner, you are never left safe for more than a a moment. Of course the theming is what makes this attraction, with it being a real life town you walk through with different stores and shops, from takeaways to VHS outlet. Every section was high quality and it’s always so fun to explore Doom Town.

Coven of 13 is still as creepy as ever, with the witches causing hell inside their coven as they are around every corner. With the weird dialect they speak all the way round, it ramps up the fear. Starting in a laser filled swamp setting, before stepping through the village to witness the horrifying scenes with your own eyes. The end scene is hot and smoky, providing a great burning finale.

Creepy Cottage is a classic haunted house and is one of the oldest mazes at Tulley’s Shocktoberfest. You roam the halls of the cottage whilst the creepy inhabitants spook you into leaving. A great warmup attraction that has a spooky feel to it.

The Haunted Hayride returns and it’s a cinematic masterpiece. You board the trailer and enter into the gloomy woods to see a number of spectacles play out. From Victorian characters through creepy dolls, with maybe an appearance from the Ghostbusters squad, you never know what to expect and see on your journey through route 666.

The Cellar is a smoke filled labyrinth, filled with crazed, insane Inhabitants, which want nothing more to hear you scream and be petrified. They did just that, with many terrifying moments in heavy strobe sections and dark corridors. This attraction is usually one of the scarier ones and the cast have really put in a shift to make that happen, time and time again.

Electrick Circus – Theming 65% | Storyline 70% | Screams 70% | Laughs 60% | Actors 75% – 68% scare Score

Electrick Circus is the clown themed attraction with a shocking difference. Using the theme of electric, all the clowns have become more lively and skittish, giving a much more dark feel to this haunt. With lots of shockingly scary fun to be had inside, you will vibrate, come up close with cool animatronics and even come out of a clowns bum! It really does have it all.

Wasteland Penitentiary is one of more new style attractions at Shocktobefest and even after a few years in, it is still one of our favourites. Whilst it remains unchanged, the space the actors have to use is great and allows for some great scares. Equally, it is one of the best themed prison mazes you’ll do with the ending being trippy yet the team inside are as energetic as ever. It has a strobe finale like no other. We love how you move around each scene to a different part of the prison and even though it is terrifying, it is still one of the more enjoyable mazes you’ll experience on the night. Plus, coming out into the themed area with the fire & light show is just an added bonus. 

Wasteland Penitentiary – Theming 85% | Storyline 85% | Screams 75% | Laughs 70% | Actors 80% – 79% scare Score

Chop Shop is one of the more simple mazes and classics here and year upon year, it provides us spine tinging terror. Just relentless chainsaw wielding maniacs back to back to back. It just does not end and if you are terrified of chainsaws and how close the actors can get, then this is true nightmare material. It starts a little creepy with meeting the family & hillbillies before unleashing a slow strobe, white walls and chainsaw chaos. This one you will be 100% screaming and running to get out from. 

Chop Shop – Theming 70% | Storyline 80% | Screams 95% | Laughs 65% | Actors 95% – 81% scare Score

Hellements is another attraction which has been around for some time and was the weakest of our night. This is a hooded attraction, where 95% of it you follow a rope across different scenes with the cast using different methods to spook you. It does heighten your other senses and provides a different tactic to get them scares but for us, it does not do it. Every event has a weak maze and for Shocktoberfest, this would be it. However, if you are scared of the dark and the unexpected, then maybe you’ll find it more scarier than us!

Outside of all of the terror of the mazes, there is plenty of entertainment about. Starting with the street theatre, you’ll see so many different characters out and about. Some there to terrify you, others to entertain and maybe to just to take a quick photo. You have clowns, dolls, frankenstein, zombies, nurses, you name it, they have it. It is just entertainment everywhere and we love it. You cannot complete a night at Shocktobefest without interacting with one of them. If you do, then you are best to head to Poker’s Party, which is an exclusive night time show on the main stage around 10pm. This is where all of the street team hit the stage with the band and perform a song, creating a party you won’t want to miss. They will create conga lines and show off their freaky dance moves with all that want to join in. Not to forget the fire & light show over in the Wastelands area. New for 2024, they have updated the display and every 30 minutes, a 5 minute show occurs. With a mixture of the prison team outside, plus some caged dancers up high, with plenty of fire & lights, it is a high octane display that we absolutely loved.
