Twisted Pumpkin has returned for 2024, bigger, better and more frightening than ever before. For those who have not heard of Twisted Pumpkin, they are a non-profit charity fundraiser event, which designs scare experiences each year with the aim of raising money for different selected charities. All money raised at the end of Halloween goes to the charity and all setup costs, equipment and staff are completely self funded & volunteer based.
As Twisted Pumpkin are quite new in the scene, they first started in 2022 with a small team and working down a side of a building, using animatronics and a few actors to raise money for Birmingham Dogs, they made just shy of £1000 for the charity. Last year in 2023, we managed to hear about the event and took our first ever visit as they changed to a bigger outdoors location. Based in the woodlands near Birmingham, they really took the fear to the next level as they raised money for the Black Country Mental Health charity, which £1400 was raised. Pretty impressive when 3 days of rain forced the event to cancel on selected nights.
Now moving onto 2024, they have now found a new home at Sandwell Valley Country Park. For 2024, they are raising money for Breaking Bread Food Bank and with the overlay of this maze being called Fear The Valley. Below we take our thoughts on the new location and of course, the new maze…
Our First thoughts…
Twisted Pumpkin is a wholesome event and we are so glad we get to visit for our second year with them. As one of only a few events in the UK that raise money over Halloween for charity, we think it is an amazing project. The team are truly passionate about designing the best scare experience they can, with essentially no budget as everything in self funded, designed & crafted, so all money raised can go to the selected charity.
With this year being at Sandwell Valley, it does create some new challenges for the team and they have managed to overcome these so well. The location uses a section of the visitor centre and they also have a large courtyard area to expand to if they so wish. Here they do have some facilities, which are toilets and a small snack hut with a licensed bar selling spirits for a reasonable price.
Twisted Pumpkin run between 4-5pm as a child friendly trick or treat session, which sees them provide an alternative, child friendly experience to the attraction. This has been very popular each year and this is no different for 2024, with them selling out quickly. From 6pm to 9pm, they offer the main, adult experience which sees the scares ramp up in their twisted Fear The Valley story.

Fear The Valley was really great to experience, it started with a ringleader who started the story and was ready to introduce you to their team of clowns. From here, we met a playful clown who loved to dance but was equally pretty creepy with her spider filled cotton candy. We then went on to meet a range of characters, from a nun & priest, a doll, pigs and even more circus freaks. Each section was a mixture of scenes, scares and laughs, which allowed them to work with the space they had and equally put on more of a show. We loved the use of the indoor space they had, which had a hilariously funny section with the priest with the holy bibles. We did get absolutely terrified in the scene with the pig and keeper, with it being chaotic & geneuily wild.
Twisted Pumpkin have done an amazing job in creating such a fun attraction, which had us laughing all the way round. Whilst funny, they did keep us on edge with plenty of jump scares and creepy moments, with many of the characters costumes being terrifying. You can’t fault the cast here as every single member pulls together to create a twisted journey of evil & fun.
Overall, Twisted Pumpkin is a great scare attraction with a twisted team & a fantastic cause behind them. This passion project really has grown year upon year and with this new location, sky is the limit as they can hopefully grow and expand with Sandwell Valley. Anybody who is close to Sandwell Valley should definitely be checking them out for 2024, as they have availability every Friday & Saturday evening between 6-9pm, with an eager team ready to scare you.
A huge thank you to the Twisted Pumpkin team for inviting us along for yet another year to see their marvellous creation. They did provide us with free tickets to check this out, however as it is for charity, we have now donated £30 online.
