Prepare for a night to remember at Walsall Scare Maze as they celebrated 6 years of fear in 2023. The Scarehouse returns re-imagined and scarier than in 2022, with brand new scenes and scares. Located in the West Midlands in Walsall, you can find this seasonal attraction which is one of the best in the UK, winning awards in the annual Scare Con event. Each year, they provide a 20-30 minute experience with one long maze that’ll contain live actors, large scares, amazing effects and breathtaking scenes. This is one event not to miss!
Walsall Scare Maze can be easily found in Walsall by searching on Google or by finding The Lion Bar & Club. Tickets are best purchased online prior to your visit and range in cost depending on when purchased. They do sell tickets early on in the season and it is best purchased with discounts you can find via their social media in advance.
For 2023, they opened on selected dates throughout October and with some dates in early November also, meaning you had plenty of time to get to see this event with it spanning over 5 weeks total. They have a licensed bar, hot food on offer with it attached to the pub & club, you can go in here too free of charge. New for this year, they had Sparky’s Shocking chairs, which is an upcharge attraction where you must survive 3 rounds of ever increasing shocks to see if you can remain victorious with the crowd cheering you on. With these being extremely popular at events across the UK, it was no surprise to see these at Walsall!
Below we cover our experience on visiting towards the end of their Halloween run on the peak weekend, 28th October.
Our Thoughts from this event…
Walsall Scare Maze is always one of our favourite events each year, as the attraction is usually more intense and themed compared to others. The event is located close to the town centre, meaning you can easily make a night being at the event, and on the night we attended, it was the main Halloween weekend. The adjoined disco- pub was hosting a Halloween party until the early hours of the morning meaning they had fancy dress competitions, a DJ playing the latest hits and decent priced drinks on offer.
As expected, The Scarehouse was sold out on the night we attended meaning there was always going to be a wait to get into the maze itself, which you wait in the outdoor section. We managed to go into the bar & shop area and got a drink whilst we waited for the queue to be a little quieter before we made our way into this years version of The Scarehouse!
“Take a guided tour around The Scarehouse, a house once stood still for years, has now been opened to the public. As you make your way around the masters house and learn of the tricks and secrets of a haunted house attraction, you must avoid the dreaded cellar. This part of the tour is still off limits and is said to house some of the sets, scenes and props used in the masters award winning creations.. of course they won’t be in any sort of working order now surely?”
The theming inside The Scarehouse is incredible. Every corner and section has some form of theming and many scenes have stand out moments. The ending in particular is still phenomenal to see but you cannot forget everything you come across along your long journey inside, which can be easily overlooked as you’re being scared and running through. The storyline is cleverly set by the voiceover safety announcement before you go in and then continued by a range of the creatures you meet inside. The mixture of the story & scares combine with the laughter and surroundings to create this immersive realm you enter in. Once you enter and get lured in by the story and setting, it is easy to forget what is going on outside.
The attraction gets top scores for scares as we got attacked from all angles as we screamed & yelled for the majority of the maze. It was interesting to see the techniques of scares used, from creepy, to jump to full on contact at moments. Whilst more extreme than your typical scare maze, it is a perfect amount to get those who aren’t usually scared a little more on edge, as you never know what they are going to do next to you!
The whole attraction is just so worthwhile experiencing and to do this on peak Halloween weekend and to still get such a good experience towards the end of the night, you know that the actors are performing at the best of their ability every single day. Scoring 96% in our scare score ratings, you can see this is near perfection and is one of two top rated mazes for us in 2023.
Outside of the Halloween season, they do operate for Christmas time on selected weekends & dates. Tickets for £20 are available to take part in ChristMasacre, The Big Slay. With a punny title and a Christmas overlay, you only know that the Christmas edition is only going to be more crazy, more scary and even funnier. For those who haven’t managed to get down at Halloween or have only just heard about Walsall Scare Maze should 100% consider this in December.

Ultimately, Walsall Scare Maze is the best of the best for us in 2023 and ticks so many boxes of what we believe makes the perfect scare attraction. From top level theming, a detailed storyline, terrifying scares, huge laughs and an incredible team of actors hiding inside making this all come alive, it really does take your breath away. Whilst it is premium in cost, you are getting a lengthy scare maze which is perfect for Halloween and a place to enjoy drinks, food and other entertainment throughout the night. Perfect for all scare lovers, a different idea for date night and great for friends over the spooky season.
A huge thank you to the team at Walsall Scare Maze for accommodating our visit on one of the busiest nights they had. The team did fantastic to hold their energy all night and provide an experience we won’t be forgetting for some time. They did provide us with a free entry ticket to the experience & exclusive access to take some images inside the attraction.
Whilst Halloween 2023 has come to an end, the Christmas event tickets are now for sale and Walsall Scare Maze will be back for Halloween 2024. With Enola, the brand new attraction you will experience solo and to be even more extreme than anything else that the UK has to offer, there are exciting things ahead!
