Parc Asterix Les Trois Hiboux Hotel Review

26 April 2023

Le Trois Hiboux Hotel

Parc Asterix is one of the most popular and growing theme parks in Europe, located close by to Paris, France. With an ever increasing audience, Parc Asterix in recent years has expanded its overnight stay offering with now a range of 3 different hotels to choose from. Two three star and one four star hotel are now home to Parc Asterix, all offering a different look & feel outside of the theme park.

The current options available are the newest hotel being Les Quais de Letece, opening in the 2020 season. A festive stop in the ancient city offering spectacular views in the day and night of a miniature city built in the centre of the hotel complex. Included a lake and other fitting themeing, you really must take a look around at day and at night. The next hotel opened back in 2018 and is called La Cite Suspendue, which translates to the hanging city! All of the rooms you will find way off the ground and on stilts hidden in the forest wilderness, a truly unique sight to see.

In our review, we look to cover the first hotel to open at Parc Asterix which is Les Trois Hiboux, translating to the three owls. This opened all the way back in 1999 and offers a range of rooms hidden in the forest grounds close by to the park.

Les Trois Hiboux offers 150 rooms in the heart of the forest. The rooms are best designed with families in mind and it has options for 1-5 beds per room, perfect for all group sizes. In this hotel, you will find a themed restaurant & bar, a games room and a spacious lobby area.

Our journey started by finding the hotel and this is easy to do when you are heading to Parc Asterix. If you follow the signs, you will go past all of the car parks the resort has before heading towards the back of the theme park where you will find the three owls hotel. There is plenty of parking spaces here which is free of charge for hotel guests staying at the hotel. Once we parked up, we went into the hotel to check in.

To check in, you would of been sent your confirmation prior to booking online and showing this at the check in desk, they can quickly get this arranged for you. They had plenty of staff working this counter at check in time, which is from 5pm, so slightly later than your average hotel. This isn’t a problem however, as you will either be enjoying Parc Asterix which is open past 5pm or, arriving for the late afternoon / evening.

Most of the staff spoke perfect English and there was no issue with our check in during our stay at the start of the season. Upon check in, you are giving your room number and key card, plus told how to book your dinner reservation (not included with your stay) and how to book breakfast (this is included in your stay). If you have any further questions or need any directions, the team will be more than happy to help you.

From the hotel lobby check in desk, we went straight to our room to see our room in person. With signs as soon as you step outside, you can find your room number with ease to one of the several lodges around the hotel entrance. Entering the room for the first time, it is best described as a woodland lodge similar to what you may find at Center Parcs in the UK. They were spacious, clean and matched its environment. With a nature theme and feel to them, our first impressions were very positive.

As you enter, you have a small hallway area with some wardrobe space on one side and on the other side you will have your bathroom. In the bathroom, we had a walk in shower, toilet and sink. Heading into the bedroom area, you will find a large double bed, a bunk bed with a pull out bed underneath, a large sofa with wooden table, a decent sized TV and some cupboard storage space. You also have a desk area with a chair, phone and some more storage space. Heading outside, you have a balcony area with a table and two chairs which was is great to sit outside and enjoy the forest area and maybe catch a glimpse of the park!

The room was more than what we expected for one of the oldest at Parc Asterix, it feels brand new when you step in and better than many other newer hotels we’ve stayed at compared to other theme parks across Europe.

Heading out of the room, we decided to see what else we could do at Hotel Les Trois Hiboux. In the lobby, you can find an entertainment room open till pretty late. Not your typical games room as it contained a range of interesting and unique games which most English guests won’t of seen. There was classic games like chess that could be played but, you could play different French games which are all explained beside each game. All designed in wood, this room was popular and kept with the feel the rest of the hotel.

We played two really unique games which was pretty easy to pick up without understand. Although our names are not accurate, what we will call the frog game requires you to throw counters from a distance away at the target range. This being a wooden box with different holes on the top which then scores you different points. More points the better, with getting it inside the frogs mouth scoring you the maximum points! Looks easy but only one of us was lucky to score the hardest shot.

You also have a spinning log game where you had to get the spin perfect as it spins down along the table / playing field. Spin it too light, you won’t score many points but if you spin it to much, you won’t score any. A simple game to understand but hard to master. Both provided plenty of entertainment for us and others seemed to love playing them.

It is good to note to play these games, the game parts need to be collected from the check in desk. They will ask you to hand over your ID which will be returned when you return the parts.

Whilst we didn’t have dinner at the hotel during our stay, we did check out the bar area in the evening to have a few drinks. It was a lovely space with plenty of tables and sofas both indoors and outdoors. The drinks do fall in line as quite expensive but as a nice hotel, these are expected. A cocktail looks to be around 12 euros on average. We tried a range of drinks, all made by a fantastic bar team in a quick manner and were very well made. This is a great place to relax at the end of the day if outside is cold and you don’t wish to go explore the other hotels or areas.

For breakfast, we went upstairs from the lobby and went to the restaurant area located directly straight on. They have a check in member of staff at the door who will check the time of your reservation, before you are seated at your table. It is good to note you can book your breakfast time via a QR code after checking in, so make sure to do this for your desired time before it sells out.

The options for breakfast was a buffet with plenty on offer. From sausages, bacon, different types of bread to potatoes and fruit. The offering was more than enough for your stay and there will be something for your liking with the range they have on offer. We were pleasantly surprised with the range and enjoyed our breakfast in the morning before we went into the park.

Upon time to check out, which is by 10am, all you need to do is leave the room and put your cards in one of the boxes in the lobby. Simple as that. You can then put your items back in your car and head into the park through the special hotel entrance. This is again signposted by you can find it directly to your left when exiting to the hotel. The walkway takes you first to a security check point where metal detectors and bag checks take place, like it would at the entrance of the park. You can then head into the park which takes you to the Tonnerre 2 Zeus area. This is less than 5 minutes’ walk and you do get 30 minutes earlier access compared to the rest of the guests entering from the main entrance, so worthwhile for sure! As we went at the start of the season, we used this time to make our way to the new area, Toutatis Festival to be the first riders of the ride for the 2023 main season!

Overall, The Three Owls hotel was a fantastic offering and stay during our visit to Parc Asterix. Prices are from 92.25 euros per person and it has a lot to offer from all guests wanting to stay. From a romantic get away for couples through to families after a nature getaway, it ticks all of the boxes. We really had nothing bad to say about the hotel or stay. Dean said following his stay; “The Three Owls hotel at Parc Asterix was certainly focused on nature with the rooms separated into different blocks, and balcony or terrace areas overlooking the woodlands. It was of a great quality and had a good sleep. The bar and games area was a nice touch with some unique games to play. It was convenient having the parks own access into the park despite it being busy, it opens in plenty of time to allow guests to get in before the hotel ERT.” Austyn said; “I loved the hotel and the surroundings of it. It had more on offer than what I could see online, and it was a pleasant surprise and delight to stay here. Now I have visited, I would return in a future visit for the early access into the park and the large rooms you can have.”

A huge thank you to the team at Parc Asterix who offered us to stay at this hotel during our trip, with it being complimentary in return for our content and feedback along with our visit to the park. We would really recommend this hotel during your stay and if you fancy something more fancy, the other two offerings look unique for sure. Would you stay at one of the hotels at Parc Asterix?
