19 April 2023
Parc Asterix has opened for the 2023 season and we were kindly invited to the parks opening day to cover the start of the season with Asterix & Obelix. With a brand new ride and area for 2023, many other great coasters & attractions and some world class shows, Parc Asterix is one of the leading theme parks in Europe.
For those who have not heard of Parc Asterix, it is a theme park in France, located near the capital city of Paris based on the popular cartoon Asterix & Obelix. The theme park has rapidly grown in popularity since its opening in 1989 and with an audience growing rapidly year upon year, they have a big plan ahead of them to continue the success of this theme park.
Whilst you may not see or hear much in the UK about Parc Asterix, when you are in France, you will see advertisement absolutely everywhere. It is easy to get to if you are driving your own car, hiring a car or even public transport when visiting in France. On this journey we used the Eurotunnel and drove our own behicle, but have accessed the park via public transport on other previous visits.
Before we head into our thoughts on the 2023 season, we have many great articles about Parc Asterix from previous years and you can find them below;
The Toutatis Festival – new for 2023
New for 2023 is The Toutatis Festival, an area that celebrates the god Toutatis and holding the spirit of the Gallic festival. The new 3-hectare area is now home to Toutatis, a world class coaster, Chez Gyrofolix, a family attraction with a spinning sensation and the Golden Boar playground, perfect for young guests to have fun in the largest play park designed by the park to date. With a new restaurant and shop also, the new area is fun to explore.
The new coaster Toutatis is the headline new attraction from Parc Asterix and has been built with some of the best elements a coaster can have. Our favourite feature of the new ride has to be the triple launch, the insane speed and force that brings is not able to be matched by any other coaster we’ve experienced. It also has plenty of inversions and tricks throughout the ride to keep you entertained for the whole ride. It has some very photogenic points throughout the land and stands strong in the lineup of coasters already at the park.
Adding a family attraction and a playground means there is something for everyone within the area. For thrill seekers to enjoy Toutatis, to older children to enjoy a spinning fun attraction and younger kids for the playground who may be to small for these two rides.
Other Thrilling Coasters
Parc Asterix is home to many other thrilling rides which are world class and it was great to see them in operation and still bringing in the crowds on our busy day. You have Tonnerre 2 Zeus, this coaster had an update last year and this wooden coaster offers you to go forwards or even backwards. Whilst it can be a rough ride, it is a highly popular attraction guarded by the great Zeus statue.
Next up you have Oziris, an inverted coaster in the Egyptian themed area of the park. This is also a world class coaster which is loved by many since opening. With the area home to additional entertainment such as a fountain show, it is a great area within the park to go enjoy.
Other coasters you can find are Pegase Express, a family coaster similar to Th13teen at Alton Towers in the UK, it boasts a much bigger layout and other thrilling elements in the Greece themed area of the park. Goudurix is a very photogenic ride which will have you screaming and feeling dizzy by the end.
Other Amazing Attractions
Parc Asterix is home to many fun attractions outside the thrilling coasters. They have a large number of water rides from a classic log flume ride with many drops and a bumpy splashing route. You have Le Grand Splatch which has many water effects for a guaranteed soaking, not forgetting L’Oxygenarium for a spinning plunge down a windy path and last but not least, the picturesque rapids boat ride. All of the water rides are so much fun to go on and if the weather is just right, we highly recommend you get on these to cool off!
They have plenty of other indoor attractions for the cooler times, such as Attention Menhir which is a 4D cinema with lots of movement. You also have Le Defi de Cesar, a clever attraction like the Haunted Mansion ride at Legoland Windsor, where you will feel like your spinning 360 degrees, except it’s on a ship with your friend, Asterix!
If that is not enough already, there is a number of other fun and thrilling coasters and attractions scattered across the park. You just have to walk past them and find them. It would take more than a day to ride every single ride at Parc Asterix, so find your favourites or make sure you have booked for multiple days.

Shows Around The Park
Parc Asterix is home to some of the best shows found within European theme parks. Everytime we visit, we always make sure we see one show because you would be silly not to! Our favourite show is Main basse sur la Jaconde, a stunt show that is always improving year upon year. With a large and talented cast of stunt performers, you will see cars, motorbikes, a ship and even a train in this performance. From explosions, abseiling and other great stunts, the show has action and comedy in mind from start to finish. You don’t need to understand French to enjoy this show.
We also managed to check out Plongeons lolympe, a diving show that took over the previous animal enclosure in the park. Based on the romans and olympics, two diving teams compete for your votes, diving higher and higher with more technical tricks as the show continues on. With a hot ending, we loved seeing this for our first time and sure you would to.
These are just two of the many shows that you can find in the park. From magic to a parade, there is so much to see in just shows outside of the attractions that could take you all day.
Overall, Parc Asterix is one of our favourite theme parks in Europe! With so many world class coasters, fantastic shows and high quality theming, you can’t not enjoy a day out whatever the weather. With the new addition for 2023 of The Toutatis Festival, the park has grown in size and added another coaster that is worth travelling for alone.
Dean said following the trip; “Parc Asterix is definitely one of my favourite theme parks in Europe, and it has been for a while. The way the park conducts itself on an opening season compared to other parks is commendable and had a great atmosphere. I really enjoyed the high diving show, and the main stage action show still blows me away every time with the talent of the actors and the scale of the immersive set. Toutatis is a much-needed coaster in the parks comprehensive line-up, and it is one of the best I’ve ever experienced, the combination of powerful launches and unique airtime moments make it perfect. The park really is a must visit and I can’t wait to return again soon.”
Austyn mentioned; “Parc Asterix always brings an incredible day out and every time I go, I have so much fun. I love the stunt show and I love rides like Oziris. With the new coaster now taking the headline slot at Parc Asterix, I will have to be back soon to ride it once more!”
A huge thank you to the team at Parc Asterix for allowing us to visit and providing us two tickets to enjoy the start of their season for 2023. Make sure to check out our hotel review of one of the on site hotels and our more detailed review on Toutatis and the themed area.
