We started our day at Oakwood as many would, riding the many great coasters. The main coaster being of course, Megafobia. This opening back in 1996, has offered many thrills over almost 30 years and with its retrack recently, the ride is much smoother, more enjoyable and provides endless fun. Our group enjoyed a few morning rides here whilst the park was quiet and it is always a great way to start our day. 

The next main coaster is Speed, which is a eurofighter coaster that has two inversions and a very steep drop. Located in the far back of the park, it has over the last few years now completed some paintwork on it and is always a great ride to get back on. 

There are a number of smaller coasters at Oakwood, such as the Creepy Crawler, with a Halloween, pumpkin theme. You have the crocodile coaster found in Neverland, which is a small kid coaster and then TreeTops Coaster, which is a family coaster that goes around the tree landscape. All of these rides are great for the younger audience and provides plenty of family fun. 

Whilst not a coaster, the Bobsleigh is a fun toboggan based ride which always is great to start your day on. As you control the speed with a lever as you go up a lift hill before a wavy decent down to the bottom, providing plenty of thrills. One of our favourites for sure. 

The reason for our visit is that in August you can find the After Dark event. This event is on for 10 dates in 2024, running each Wednesday, Saturday and the bank holiday Monday. The event brings the parks opening hours to 10am – 10pm and provides additional entertainment and late night riding including in your standard entry ticket. 

The event wanted to bring back some local talent for 2024 and has a number of different bands and entertainment acts that rotate throughout August. These include bands, fire acts, dancers and singers, so each time you visit, you are likely to see something new. These start in the early evening, allowing you to enjoy your day at the park before getting settled down on the grass hill for the evening. 

Towards the end of the night brings the colourfest powder party which has the local team dance to upbeat music and guests can purchase special UV powder which kids love. This was the busiest we’ve ever seen this part of the night and it seems lots of people got behind it, which is great to see. 

The end of the night is the firework spectacular. This is a 10 minute show containing fireworks, fire and a light show accompanied to a custom soundtrack. Each year we love to see this event and it just is a great way to end a summer evening, despite any bad weather.
