Dr Frights is back with 4 new mazes and a new overall theme called World Tour. Located near Northampton, Dr Frights is an annual event each Halloween during selected nights, providing award winning scare attractions along with a Halloween atmosphere.
For 2021, Dr Frights have gone with a World Tour theme, with each scare maze being themed to country. USA, Japan, Mexico and Spain being the visiting destinations, they have designed the whole event to go along with this super cool concept. Upon entry, you get given a travel guide leaflet giving you information on the destinations, food and drink offers and everything else not to miss out on. This alone is pretty unique, with them really pushing the World Tour theme.
Dr Frights is mainly indoors with it all being hosted within marquees. The only exception being the maze exits. They have a handful of roaming actors, a Hollywood Diner, lots of photo opportunities and the Horror Bar. The bar can only be visited once you’ve completed all the mazes however, which is good to note. The event area was lively and everything is fairly priced. With loud music playing to keep an atmosphere going, all we could really ask for was a few more roaming actors as the 1-2 actors were just not enough in our opinion with the space & opportunity given.
The Grindhouse Down in Mexico
“Viva la Mexico! Our infamous family of cannibal hillbillies have escaped south of the border, but have no intention of stopping their murderous rampage! Can you escape Cousin Cletus’s chainsaw? Or will you become the meat in Mumma Beefs tacos?”
This was our second maze of the evening and the experience starts in the queueline, with a lighthearted fun tune… Tequila! With a nice little entrance into the maze, the scares ranged but had some very close encounters with the hillbillies and their apparatus. The scares mainly got to the front of the group of this one and slightly lacked towards the back, but the actors had a mixture of joyous behaviour and fearsomeness to them. The themeing is superb with sets, characters and music, setting the scene and taking you to Mexico. The immersion was unexpected but massively welcomed. Whilst our lowest rated maze of the night, this wasn’t a weak haunt.

Hollywood Horror The Final Chapter
“Our fan favourite maze is back, with all new terrifying scenes! Take a tour of Devilsgate Studios and experience a bone chilling trip through some of Hollywood’s most feared blockbusters!”
We’ve heard about this attraction in the past and it’s a super exciting maze that takes snippets of well known horror films and puts you right in the middle of them. So many of the scenes were recognisable and this itself can give a sense of fear to grow. Many of the scenes had our group jumping throughout, with some really clever tactics used super effectively. The actors knew their space and worked within each of the film scenes to play a spooky character. Some of our favourite sets were The Purge & Scream, both being completely different to eachother but it being of a high quality standard in scares and themeing.

Yokai Temple
“Yokai Temple has been rigged up with motion sensors, night vision cameras and EMF readers. They are all set and ready in the hopes of finally capturing evidence of the temple’s demonic residents . . . And it’s your job to draw them out!”
Yokai Temple was one of the darkest mazes of our night. Not just in terms of lighting but themeing and characters too. Japan being the overlay to the temple, the scares were genuinely terrifying inside the dark labyrinth. Being scared from every angle was certainly used in this Temple and we mean EVERY angle. Some scenes used a heavy amount of effects and this added a disorienting factor and even harder to find the actors than it was already. One of the most scared we’ve been this Halloween. The sets were Japanese-esqe and really had a clear & distinct theme. The actors were just hidden everywhere and with how the different scenes were setup, it felt like they were perfectly placed for maximum scares. A super strong dark maze with a unique theme that we’d like to see more of.

Killer Clowns In Ibiza
“Grab your passports because WE’RE GOING TO IBIZA! Of course, not all is as it seems . . . As you become prey in the latest killing competition amongst our resident Killer Clowns!”
Killer Clowns in Ibiza… even the name sounds absolutely ‘bonkers’. Killer Clowns has been a long running theme at Dr Frights which we’ve heard great things about, with different themes each year, and this version sees you checking in at the airport and jetting off for a party in Ibiza. We have never had so much fun in a scare maze before, and whilst suspense and terror can be good, we firmly believe humour should be a big part of Halloween too. So we couldn’t be more pleased with this attraction.
SPOILERS: the maze takes you through many familiar holiday scenes from intimidating airport security, to walking down the aisle of the airplane, going for a swim, and even a rave in a night club, all accompanied by a playlist of Ibiza anthems. Of course it all sounds too good to be true, as Killer Clowns are on the loose and are lurking everywhere possible ready to attack. The clowns use the spaces incredibly well, and bring so much humour as well as scares to the maze, we really didn’t think we could be jump scared having the time of our lives dancing away to sandstorm… how wrong were we!

All of the attractions had a great introduction with a character themed audio explaining the Scream parks rules and the story. This was a tad quiet and hard to hear at times but if you could hear it, it added to the experience immensely. Additionally, the music in each of the queue lines really added some entertainment during our short way, with Hollywood Horror playing more of a classical movie score whilst Killer Clowns in Ibiza played party classics.
We can see how Dr Frights is an award winning event and we’ve enjoyed our first ever visit hugely. From the unique overall theme of different countries to the batching of groups being limited to your own, this is a hugely popular and highly rated experience that we can’t recommend enough.
