Pleasurewood Chills 2021 Review

Pleasurewood Chills is back for 2021 with a mixture of family entertainment, spooky activities and thrilling mazes. This is in addition to the rest of the rides and attractions at Pleasurewood Hills theme park.

For those who haven’t visited Pleasurewood Hills before, it’s a family theme park in the Suffolk region, providing a perfect family day out. With rollercoasters such as Wipeout & Marble Madness for the older audiences, along with family favourites such as Wavebreaker & Egg-spress, there is plenty to do.

Pleasurewood Chills is now in its third season and it offers some spooktacular entertainment for everyone. They have the tiny train of terrors which is an overlay to the Woodland Express, leaving younger guests smiling rather than screaming. Carving pumpkins and face painting is also an option, or meeting the park’s mascot with his Halloween costume on.

The Creepy Cave is a hands on experience as you get up close to creepy crawlies but equally get to learn about them. From giant African snails, stick insects, tarantulas and even a snake. We found this very cool and think it’s a great Halloween activitiy for the park to add.

But let’s talk about the scary side of Pleasurewood Chills. 2 scare mazes return being Shaft 13 – The Legend of Hob & Hell-express. To experience both of these attractions, you’ll need to upgrade to an extreme scream ticket costing £6 per person. This is a slight increase to last year but with it costing £3 per maze, this is still fantastic value for money. A good thing to note is these mazes are pretty hidden and the scare actors don’t scare outside the maze itself, so the younger audiences have no issues with walking by.

Hell express

Hell Express returns with some small changes, as you travel through some abandoned train carriages. The maze includes some really small & dark spaces, where the actors have to use their space effectively. With some eerie sets and heavy smoke, we did get a handful of jump scares and shadows following us during our dark journey. Some of the space within the maze could be utilised better to extend the experience, but with it being hosted inside a train carriage, it already has the genuine feel!

Shaft 13 – The Legend of Hob

Promised to have some ‘miner’ changes, we expected Shaft 13 to be even darker, scarier and stronger than before. Following the legend of the hob story, you enter the mine to try and find some lost explorers but warned to stay away from Hob. Compared to last year, the intensity and scares were certainly ramped up to the next level. Using loud bangs, creepy shadows and clever frightening effects to assist in the spooks. The maze did feel lighter in places this year, but allowed for us to see more of the themeing and actors which we really liked. Overall, the changes to Shaft 13 makes it better than before, and a top Halloween scare attraction despite it being in a family park.

Scares: 9/10 | Themeing & Storyline: 8/10 | Actors: 8/10

The event runs daily from Saturday 23rd to Sunday 31st October 2021. Mazes are £6 for one entry to both attractions. Many other spooky activities & shows are included with the park entry.

We’d like to thank Pleasurewood Hills for welcoming us to the park for their event, and taking the time to discuss their mazes which were both interesting and greatly appreciated.
