Sir Henry's Haunted Trail 2022 Review

Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail returns for 2022 with 3 Haunted Trails, 2 escape games and a laser tag game. Located in Plant City, Florida, Sir Henry’s is one of Florida’s top rated events, even competing with its rather large locals such as Halloween Horror Nights and Howl o Scream!

The event is open Friday, Saturday and Sundays throughout October and early November. All tickets need to be purchased online and directly prior to attending. Tickets cost from $27 depending on time of booking and date and they have a few different types depending on if you want front of line access etc.

All the Haunted houses are hand built and the event is close to a home haunt, as it’s in their back gardens! The event includes food and drink, roaming characters, merchandise and many photo opportunities. With the extra activities such as axe throwing and laser tag, it all helps create a spectacular night. They also hosted 2 five minute escape rooms, both with different themes and essentially aiming to solve a simple challenge in the time. We got to test Bloody Headlines, which needed us to put together pieces of a lost story. Very simple but was a fun additional challenge. The other escape challenge, Cavities was not available during our visit.

Sir Henry is the main character of the evening and we got the opportunity to say hello and catch a quick photo with him. All of his other friends were also out causing terror in the darkness.

Some top tips if you are attending the event is to bring bug spray, as although we sprayed before attending, there were so many biting us still throughout the night which made it a little uncomfortable at times. Not the event’s fault however, definitely our biggest struggle of the night!

Now on to the best bit, the mazes…

Sir Henrys Haunted Trail Review

Headless

“In a small sleepy town, there exists the legend of General Hanover’s Treasure. The general was famous for his brutality during the Revolutionary War, slaying his victims and taking a piece of their spine to fashion into a whip and stowing away whatever valuables he found on them. After meeting his end with a beheading by a cannonball, rumors circulated about where he hid his stolen riches but it was never discovered. Now, many years later, a massive manhunt was brought together to find this treasure once and for all. But when some villagers got too close to finding it, the headless ghost of General Hanover began to appear in the graveyard, mounted on a tall dark horse. Warding off all those who sought his treasure and decapitating those that crossed his path. Will you dare to face the horseman for his treasure? Or will you too become headless?”

A great façade welcomes you to this maze, before being sent through meeting the unwelcoming residents of the village. There were many theatrical moments along with the typical jump scares and other clever effects including a sea of lasers. This attraction features the most detailed theming at Sir Henry’s and really outdid other bigger events in Florida, which is an impressive feat for a local haunt. The biggest surprise of this maze is also what makes it one of the most unique we’ve ever experienced; along your journey you should encounter a real life headless horseman wandering around the edge of the maze, adding an extra level of immersiveness and authenticity to the story.

Final Cut

“Rising silent era starlet Joan Parker has pursached herself a mansion with a dark history. The former resident was an actress who after years and years of failed attempts to reach fame, killed herself in the home. At first glance the mansion was bare and empty, except for a large statue in the cellar. Strange things began to happen in the few weeks of living in her new home, noises coming from nowhere, objects disappearing and reappearing, a feeling of constantly being watched, and the statue strangely seeming to come alive. Now, you are invited to Joan’s Movie Premiere Party. But beware to accept this invitation for the entity of the dead actress has overcome Joan to wreak havoc on her party. Will you fall victim to its ghostly possession?”

Looking over at the queue line and entrance is impressive as if you’re about to enter an actual mansion. This maze features scares and actor interaction from the second you step into the maze, and sets the scene well for what is about to come. Standing face to face with the cursed statue you may even meet the ghost of the actress, before stepping into the big screen. In this maze there are many dimly lit scenes with crazed cinema workers and actors. Some highlights had to be the very realistic statues which gave us a good fright, especially when following us and appearing at different points in the maze; the other moment featuring multiple scares was a small maze of clothes hung up, where the actor weaved in and out!

Rapture of the deep

“The fishing town of Portsmouth’s successful market has been legendary for as long as anyone can remember. Unbeknown to outsiders, over a century ago the town made a deal with a Sea Witch to sacrifice a human life to her sea creature every year in exchange for a lucrative harvest and favourable seas. Unfortunately, due to Captain Jonah’s return from the dead, the townsfolk missed the day of the sacrifice and now the Sea Witch has unleashed her wrath. Her sea creature has been released along with it’s spawn and together they are swallowing Portsmouth brick by brick. Will you join the townsfolk at the bottom of the ocean? Or will you escape the clutches of the Kraken?”

Stepping into the seaside town, things very soon started to take a turn for the worse. There was a good level of theming throughout, and very detailed in places. This maze was quite possibly the scariest we had experienced whilst over in Florida, and featured some very effective up close scares with set pieces, actors and other effects. A chainsaw mid way through the maze really caught us off guard and had us running and screaming right into the next terrifying scene. The harbour created some very uneasy moments with large actors and realistic props. Our main highlights of the maze certainly had to be the big shark prop and other deep sea creatures which leapt out of the walls at you, as well as the gas masked creature which let out a squeal that will haunt us forever.

Overall, Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail was as eerie & Haunting as you would expect. We witnessed some of the most terrifying moments whilst visiting here, some truly unique features too. As our first out of theme park, American haunt, Sir Henry’s did not disappoint and offered a night of thrilling and frightening entertainment, scaring us more than some of the larger scaled events surrounding it.

A huge thank you to the team for inviting us to experience this during an exclusive media preview event. The event is now open and if you are in the Florida area for Halloween or just visiting the theme parks, you should stop by to check out this attraction.
